Snake45 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 For those who came in late, the "workbench" portion of this story can be seen here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=93341 Long story short, it's a promo friction toy that came to me with the body apparently etched or crazed by some kind of chemical. I spent about 30-40 hours sanding and polishing it out, and along the way grew fond of the bright blue plastic. The hood trim, front marker lights, door handles, and rear fender emblems are kitchen foil. The rest of the chrome trim is either silver Sharpie or Testor silver paint. I'm not 100% happy with the wheel/tire placement, but I'll sort that out another day. I also need to come up with some kind of fix for the broken rear license plate. But for now, this one is off the Shelf of Doom and officially "under glass." Thanks for looking.
unclescott58 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Pretty car. Good save. Nice to see a Javelin and not an AMX. AMXs are cool. But, so are the Javelins. By the way any license should hide the broken license mounting in the back. Scott
Sport Suburban Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Very nice! I have one of these to build still.
slusher Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Super nice looking model. Real good work...
Maxicoop Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 awesome Javelin !!!!!!!!!!!!! super save !!!!!!!!!!!
mangodart Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Nice Javelin !!! Have to find me one.....
swede70 Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Very neat - I love early Javelins. I regret that I didn't stock up on Modelhaus replacement tail light lenses with the proper 'Javelin' script when these were briefly available, so to see another '68 with the correct tail light assembly briefly causes me pain given I didn't act when I ought to have consistent with planning for tomorrow. Thanks for sharing...Mike K.
Hmann68 Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 All that time spent paid off, it looks fantastic! I've always dug AMC's, built the johan javelin as a kid and totally glue bombed it, wish I had it now lol! Good work man

Thanks for sharing... Mike K. I ordered some Javelin stuff right at the end, pretty sure I got at least one set of taillights but I don't remember if more than that. I THINK I got enough Javelin stuff to finish up my Javelin projects (3 or 4) but I guess I'll have to wait and see. I do know I have a red promo awaiting its turn to be polished out. Here's a peek at the nose of it, modeling (no pun intended) the difference between a detailed and an all-chrome front end.
Ron Hamilton Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) I like those Javelins Snake! A while back, I picked up this '68 promo off of Ebay. It is not pristine. I may strip the paint off, and have the chrome re-done, as well as add a vinyl roof to it, and swap out the wheel covers for a set of Styled Wheels. I am not too crazy about the green. My preference I Red, with the Black Vinyl Roof, Side Stripes and Interior. I also have a '69 Resin piece from Raoul (Sport Suburban). It took a little work to clean it up, but it was worthwhile. I plan to do it up as a "Big Bad" car. I have to tweak it a little, but I think it will work out. Edited April 4, 2017 by Ron Hamilton
Snake45 Posted April 4, 2017 Author Posted April 4, 2017 A few years ago when I was Javelin hunting in The Bay, I got a couple '68s but was never quite able to score a '69. I did cop one '70, which had been built as the Trans Am racer. Later I picked up a resin body (Flintstone, I think) that has the racing flared fenders, so I'm gonna restore the '70 as a stocker and build up a real TA racer on the resin body. I just happen to have an AMT '71 (absolutely mint, pristine kit except someone used the box for a paint stand and the entire main art has a thick coat of white spray paint on it) that will make a lovely donor for glass, chassis, engine, interior, etc., and I'm pretty sure I ordered at least one set of '70 trim parts from Modelhaus.I don't plan to start a collection of TA cars but I would like to do a '70 Javelin and at least one of the Donahue first-gen Camaros. (I'd really like to do all three.)
om617 Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Good looking Javelin.Have not had the chance to find any of late 60s Javelins yet,too expensive now,
microwheel Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Nice restoration work Snake. I really like how you do such good work saving some really great subjects from the scrap yard. I love the old AMC cars. It was a shame when Chrysler bought them out and ended the line.
drifterdon Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Really nice work on your Javelin Snake. Looks the part.
Jim N Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Nice restoration work Snake. I really like how you do such good work saving some really great subjects from the scrap yard. I love the old AMC cars. It was a shame when Chrysler bought them out and ended the line.I completely agree. Chrysler only wanted Jeep. But in their defense, as I recall, AMC really only had the Concord as their last good car. The others were Renaults, which is one of several European car brands that never seem to catch on here in the States.
Mr Stock Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Great work Snake !, I have a soft spot for the old Javelins I've never found a pre 70 one yet, especially over here in the UK !.Another car saved by the Glue Bomb Saviours !!
Snake45 Posted April 20, 2017 Author Posted April 20, 2017 Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone! Y'all are getting me in the mood to drag that red one out and do it too....
