I'm sure some others have purchased built models that aren't exactly in the style you would choose to do them yourself either for parts, restoration, or just because they looked like they needed to be adopted-

Show off your ugly cars :)

Here are a few of mine that I hope/plan to rebuild.

71Camaro01.jpg

I've actually been working on this one and the finish line is in sight:

66Skylark02.jpg

Of these two, the '68 is rebuilt and on the shelf, still trying to come up with a plan for the '69 pieces.

68GTO1.jpg

Original MPC '72 annual, stripped and ready for rebuild.

72Camaro01.jpg

Have definite plans for this one involving original vintage '60s custom parts. It's an original, first-issue '63 AMT annual coupe. Or it WAS.

VetteAMT66Speedster07.jpg

This one will become a vintage '65-66 road racer.

VetteAMT66Racer01.jpg

Seems to be an original AMT annual '68 (kinda inaccurate). Thinking of turning it into a VW-powered "kit car."

VetteAMT6801.jpg

This one will get rebuilt as a mild custom Vette Van, using as many original 1967 parts as I can find.

Got quite a few more, but no photos (yet). B)

I'm guilty of this.

I bought a complete '40 Ford, a green chevy "muscle truck", and two Model A... or even Model B Ford convertibles. (havent opened the box yet to take a closer look) lol

Built ups don't last long with me. If they are nice unpainted examples I wash them, polish them and may go into the display case, or get wrapped up and put in a box. The painted ones go right into the stripping bucket for a good soak. I got a styline AMT '60-'61 Valiant that was gooped up with layers of paint and the custom front & rear on. When it came out it appeared the builder had used the AMT body putty as the glue to attach the pieces. They had just fallen off and the damage was minimal.

I Love me some model car and truck kit junkyards/ junklots  I seem to get more satisfaction out of knowing i saved something from a not so good/great state

to something to is halfways decent and fits my visions of customization! great thread!

I've got a bunch of old build ups and promos in various stages. The problem is that I don't photograph them until I'm ready to restore them. Even then, I don't always think to do it. I would rather restore an old kit or promo than a brand new kit any day. They're all in various stages from finished and on the shelf to stripped and waiting it's turn. Here's the few that I do have photos of...

008-2.jpg

002-5.jpg

Little late on this one.

011-9.jpg

Late on this one too.

002_zpsd3d30fc4.jpg

001_zps69125c5e.jpg

002_zps79eca7d0.jpg

I did a wheel and tire swap on this one before I took a photo of it.

004_zps78b94157.jpg

Then there's this that I don't even want anymore. I thought I wanted it when I saw it. I also thought the top from the AMT Ramblur slammer kit would work on it.

I have 3 of that Jo-Han 62 Lark. 1 is a Promo And That shade of Blue!!

(Too bad the windshield frame is broken on it though. I was going to use a re-issue kit to replace

it, but being a promo, the plastic is a mis-match!!! It is not warped, but does look Slightly Shunken!)

You will Not have any trouble trading it off!!!!!!!

Wish I could try!!!

And, Yes I have a few like these too.

Just wish the 61 Bonneville convert I got was a Kit not Promo. Wesley's Rubberized the darn thing!!!!!!!

It is Still SOFT!!

Got a 60 El Camino, 600 & 63 F100's under resto from built's like these!!

60 Ford was Complete, sill need 1-2 parts for 63!!

I Might have Before pic's (Or In-Between) in my Photobucket.

I've been pretty much living on ugly built-ups recently. I just love taking something that looks like it belongs in the trash & turning it into a nice display piece. :) Steve

If you want it, send me a PM and we'll see if we can work something out. I may be able to help you out with the '63 F-100 too.

That '63 vette with the fastback top removed gives me the idea that a large airplane canopy might fit it! ;)

Interesting idea but that's not where I'm going with it. Remember the Vette Van? The "trunk" section I cut out of that to van-ify it will find a good home on that topless '63 body. (Actually, there's going to be a slightly more complicated 3-way parts swap here, but it would take too long to explain.)

I have no problem buying old builtups.

I've been pretty lucky and most are decent enough to just sit in my case as is. I don't have the heart to take them apart to redo

here are a couple

I have the body completely polished out now, ready to start foiling. The chassis is finished, the interior is about 80% finished. I should be starting a Workbench thread on it soon.

I just received this MPC 1976 Firebird today...it's quite horrendous. Marker bomb? The body, grille and glass are correct and in decent condition but everything else appears to be from a MPC Blackbird kit.

I see that Modelhaus has the headlights and a few other goodies for it. If you can find a hood, you're in the resto bidness! Model on!

Thanks!

I've got an extra resin 76 Formula hood if you're not wanting to go with the shaker (I forgot about the one I had in a conversion kit and bought an original plastic hood for my 76 Formula project)

Missing Link makes nice fitting 70-76 shaker and flat hoods as well

002-9.jpg

Also a fan of the MPC Camaro- have three '72s, a 70.5, and '73 to restore

Anybody have a '71 they want to trade for a '72 (or even a back bumper?)
