chunkypeanutbutter Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Look at my tag line. My laptop is better than yours! It's a 1985 Tandy 200, and I believe it's a 16 bit. This is how I got into programming. I traded my SNES for it, and it's worth it. Yes, that's a cassette port. I don't have the cable for it, though. Dang! Any other vintage computer guys out there?
1930fordpickup Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 You do not want to know how much Tandy stuff I just got rid of . My late brother had a pickup truck load of this stuff. tapes four or five computers, books and cables. We could not find a place t take it. A paper grocery bag full of the original floppies.
SSNJim Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I've still got a Commodore SX64. It is Y2K compliant, but I haven't found a web browser to work with my 300 baud modem. Love my Commodore.
Harry P. Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 You guys still churn your own butter, too?

What happened to it?

Love my Commodore. Change your OS and get internet! http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/classics-rock/surf-the-web-on-your-commodore-64/ I wish my Tandy was Y2K compliant. Still, 1914 is alright.
1930fordpickup Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Noooo! What happened to it? Some things you do not want to know. Could not find anyone who wanted it. The commodore 64 has a huge following with HAM Radio people. Asked them and they did not want it.
SSNJim Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 All right! According to the article, I can use my SX64 as a web server. Now to dig up my serial cables....
chunkypeanutbutter Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 What, you don't have serial cables ready right now? *shame on you*
unclescott58 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 What's this computer stuff? I'm still using a slide rule. Do you know how hard it is write these messages with a slide rule? Scott
blunc Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 actually, the Tandy 200 had an 8-bit processor and came with 24K RAM that could be upgraded to 72K RAM by adding two DIP RAM chips.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 You guys still churn your own butter, too? Yes, after walking miles to work and back home, uphill BOTH ways, in the snow, and then milking the cat.
unclescott58 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) Yes, after walking miles to work and back home, uphill BOTH ways, in the snow, and then milking the cat. I tell the kids I work with that I'm so old, that when I went to school. I rode my dinosaur back and forth to school. Up hill both ways. In a blizzard. And in my bare feet! And now I can add that I didn't have a cat to milk when I got home. Scott Edited September 13, 2014 by unclescott58

Ace-Garageguy Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I worked in the "computer department" of a large store part-time many many years ago, and sold some of these technological wonders. Pretty cool old machines and great to see some of them still in operation. Wow. 16k. You can, like, add two numbers and compose a limerick simultaneously.
Harry P. Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Wow. 16k. You can, like, add two numbers and compose a limerick simultaneously. Only if you use really short words.
Tom Geiger Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Many years ago when I was very active as an eBay seller I came across a Tandy PC mint in the box for $10 at a fire dept donation flea market. I put it up for auction with a $9.99 start bid and thought I'd make a few dollars. Almost fell off my chair when I checked and it sold for over $200.

You'd be amazed how much text you can pump into that thing. I had some pretty good documents on there, a few at least 10,000 characters. Did I mention the thing runs on AA batteries? XD
