slusher Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Your almost there Randy, beautiful detail.. Dis you use a brush on the silver trim in the center of the dash and console??
deuces wild Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Very cool!!! Got a question... What was the difference between the 396/375 L-78 and the 1965 Corvette 396/425 motor??? Intake and cam maybe??? How about pistons???
Snake45 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Very cool!!! Got a question... What was the difference between the 396/375 L-78 and the 1965 Corvette 396/425 motor??? Intake and cam maybe??? How about pistons??? Not sure about internals, but I know that NHRA rated the L78 at 425 HP. I see that the engine was also called L78 in the '65 Corvette. My guess at this point is that it's same engine, but others might know more.
RandyB. Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 Your almost there Randy, beautiful detail.. Dis you use a brush on the silver trim in the center of the dash and console?? Thanks guys. Carl....yes I painted the center of the dash and the console free handed with brush silver paint. The door panels and knobs on the doors are BMF.

Intake and cam maybe??? How about pistons??? I believe the Vette version had a solid lifter cam and better exhaust. This is just from some info that stuck to my brain from reading mags back in the 80's, so please don't quote me.
Bob Ellis Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I think the original '65 396 425hp was sort of the same engine as the 427 425hp of 1966. What I understood was that Chevy lowered the revs of the '65 engine and kept the same horsepower by upping the displacement to 427. Until '69, the lowest 396 was the 325hp. I think they went to a 2bbl carb 396 in 1969 with lower compression. It was in the Impala, but not in the Camaro, Chevelle or Nova.
deuces wild Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I only seen one iron 396 2-bbl intake and it was in a Chevelle wagon...
RandyB. Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 Okay...I have been working on the tail light bezels and tail light lenses all day. Actually painting the black inside the bezels was much harder than originally anticipated. I painted the back side of the lenses silver so any excess black in the bottom of the bezel where the lenses sit would not show through.
RandyB. Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) I stripped the chrome plating off the hood louvers using easy off oven cleaner and spray painted them black and then dry brushed silver paint over the raised portion. Edited October 13, 2014 by RandyB.

mikemodeler Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Those tail light bezels look spot on Randy, that model is coming along nicely!
RandyB. Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) Okay....'67 Camaro SS 396 all finished a bit sooner than anticipated. Vacation time plus rainy weather sped things up a little. I wanted this one built without the rear spoiler since all of my Camaros have them. Overall this model was a joy to build. Great fitting kit except in two areas. I had to sand the carb down in order for the hood to fit down without striking the air cleaner and after installing the rear wheels I noticed that they were not centered within the wheel wells and were too close to the back edge of the wells. The front wheels were okay. It is an easy fix by trimming about 1/16th" of the front edge of both leaf springs and moving the whole assembly forward. The drive shaft will have to be shortened about the same. Anyway, here are few pics to check out and thanks for all of the great comments and informative input. Edited October 14, 2014 by RandyB.
