Tesla Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Brian, this is a great project that I'll be following for sure!
disabled modeler Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) Not exactly a truck but I just picked up a 74 Dodge van in the old MPC Truckin' USA kit to use for my Rollin' Thunder replica. Brian...that is one of the kits I have been looking for to build a replica of my old factory custom van I once owned a 71 to 76 body...I have some stuff close to what your wanting to build...PM me... Fat Brian Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Awesome Brian, I cant wait to see you tackle that. I may try to mould my corrected 66"s, before you complete it. I also may be able to help with the correct axles. Do you have any detail picks of the stacked chassis? I know they set the van frame on top of the "heavy truck chassis" as it says in many articles. Terry, I can't find any detail pics of exactly how the two frames were attached. I put up a Hail Mary yesterday and emailed the company Jim owns, everyone who's met him says he's a pretty cool guy so hopefully he'll get back to me and I can ask some questions about the truck. How did you fix the tires, cut a left and a right in two and then join the two halves with the small holes? I have some MPC wheel backs that will fit the small hole from the Dodge truck kit if you want to copy them.

Thats exactly what I did.I cut the sidewalls out of the old Goodyears, and attached them to the new , undistorted kit tires that have no brand name.Literally all of my old kits have out of round tires. I have several of the MPC kits as well. I was modifying some rims also, with correct looking planetary hubs. I cant find anything jn my info that even says what kind of "heavy truck" they used. Every article just says "burned up water truck".
Fat Brian Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I would almost like resin tires better so the wouldn't flat spot. The frame is going to be some work, the C channel is double stacked where the springs are and there are no lift blocks and then trying to get the van frame on there too.
Guest Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I got several mixed boxes of truck kits last week. One is the ERTL gravel trailer.dump box..Kit no.8020.Does anyone know if this kit came with the optional red Mack tandem fenders as an option? Thanks, Karl Yes.Karl,Those fenders came with the DM 800 and DM 600 tractors, the dump trailer does not have them
disabled modeler Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Nice Tom...always liked the old iron wheels for their looks.
highway Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 These followed me back home to the truck tonight! The smooth side wanted to come home to the truck so it could see it's 1:1 brothers and what it will be built like! The original is more than likely going to be chromed out and find a happy home on the fifth wheel of this:
Petetrucker07 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Just picked up my new Moebius trailers and 4 cans of Tamiya clear. Oh, and preordered 2 Revell Transporters.

Superpeterbilt Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 40 bucks, MSRP Say what?! Thats a big difference from the $250 or whatever theyre going for online. I love when re-issue kits knock the bottom out of the collector market, and knock it out hard. Im not even gonna say how much I invested in Cali Haulers before the re-hash. Ive almost tripled my stash since then. If I can just see the Autocar Dumper re-popped......
Petetrucker07 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 K100s and so many others. I'm probably gonna get a couple DM Macks, just to stash. Next time at that HS, I'll grab the preorder form to make sure of what it's going for. I got the Moebius trailers for a steal. This LHS is givin me screaming deals right now. Guess it's because I live in Ca, goin to an HS in Arizona.

Aaronw Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 the molds for the A-Car should still be around right? I would think so, the dump was last out around 2000 and we got the Stevens re-issue of the tractor in 2008 or 2009?

Yessir, and I stocked a few cases of the A64B tractor. Most are still sealed. The prices of the re-issue have already climbed to the prices of the originals. Now, if I could just have a few cases of the dumper.

I would prefer the re-issues over the originals anytime: fresh plastic, better tires and new, usable decals. I love old school trucks and have sold off most of my Revell and Italeri truck kits (except the Ford LTL and some Peterbilts). My holy grail was the brown 359 California hauler (T500) which i got via ebay from Canada some years ago, but most kits here are re-issues.

Nice stash ya got there! Edited April 18, 2015 by guitarsam326
guitarsam326 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Very versatile kit, I like it just for the frame because of the length.
Petetrucker07 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I'm gonna have to lengthen the frame for this cab. A Jimmy Flintstone 53 Ford crew cab COE.
