Custom Hearse Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Went to Dollar General today, and they have their Christmas aisle already set up. WHAT IS THE DEAL!?!
Petetrucker07 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 My local Kmart and Costco started about a month ago. Pretty soon itll be time for Christmas the year before. If i remember right they started settin out Halloween around the 4th of July. Guess they want a jump on the competition.
Joe Handley Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 It's gotten to be S.O.P. for just about any big box store any more, kinda why I'm glad to be working for a franchise, we've mostly started talking about hiring for Christmas and expanding the train stock since it's nearly that time of year.
slusher Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Local Walmart supercenter is stocking Christmas decor now.
southpier Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Hobby Lobby has had it up since august; gotta be ready!
tubbs Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 our local Wal-Mart store as you walk in has Christmas trees on one side of the isle and Halloween on the other. their household section is set up for thanksgiving!
spotarama Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 our local supermarket had their xmas stock out at the beginning of july to catch the 'christmas in july' trend thats catching on over here. then it all disappears until the beginning of september when its back in force for the next 4 months, though we get overlays of fathers day and halloween to keep us spending in the meantime
Harry P. Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Shouldn't the Easter displays be going up soon? This is all part of "holiday creep." We used to have Memorial Day. Now we have "Memorial Day Weekend." We used to have Labor Day. Now it's "Labor Day Weekend." We used to have Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas. Now we have "The Holidays" one giant "holiday season" that stretches from Halloween to New Year's Day. Soon we will be in constant "holiday" mode in this country and every day will either be a holiday, a holiday eve, a holiday weekend, or a holiday season. It's beyond ridiculous. Maybe those slackers who have been leaving their Christmas lights up all year were actually ahead of their time!
Draggon Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Slackers-schmackers. I have my ( artificial ) christmas tree up already.....Oh wait, I didn't take it down last year.
Deano Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Slackers-schmackers. I have my ( artificial ) christmas tree up already.....Oh wait, I didn't take it down last year. When I met my wife there was a gal who lived in the apartment downstairs from here who left her Christmas tree up year round. Only problem was it was a "live" tree.
Harry P. Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 When I met my wife there was a gal who lived in the apartment downstairs from here who left her Christmas tree up year round. Only problem was it was a "live" tree. Not for long...
Joe Handley Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Bah !! Humbug !!! If you talk to people who've worked retail for very long, that can be a very accurate attitude. I'm almost to the point of apathy towards most holidays with this year being the most unusual, since instead of working while the bosses are taking the day off or in a box store that is open because people will shop, to getting the day off while the bosses are working!
Guest Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I hear Christmas displays next year are going up in January.
Dave Van Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Went to Dollar General today, and they have their Christmas aisle already set up. WHAT IS THE DEAL!?! My son is manager for a major drug store chain. They put out their Christmas stuff last week. They have proof the earlier the put out the Christmas items....the more they sell. Most are high profit items. They have high paid analyst that tell them how to use store space to make the most profit. In other words it's not the stores problem....and they'd not put out Christmas stuff if it didn't make them LOTS of money..... Boils down to our fault as the public in whole....... If 'we' didn't buy.....they'd not use shelf space in Oct for it.
Harry P. Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I hear Christmas displays next year are going up in January. The stores could save a lot of time and effort if they just left the Christmas stuff up all year. They're pretty close to doing that already, anyway...
Snake45 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The stores could save a lot of time and effort if they just left the Christmas stuff up all year. They're pretty close to doing that already, anyway... There's at least one "Christmas store" here in Dickburg open year round. Even stranger (to me, anyway): About 20 years ago, when my son was small, I went to some kind of kid's event at one of his friend's house (Cub Scouts or Little League or something of the sort). The place was a "McMansion" in a new, supposedly tony development. The place had two dining rooms, or maybe it was two living rooms, or whatever, at any rate they had an extra "grand room" or parlor of some kind and they'd turned it into a Christmas Room and had a tree in there and all sorts of other Christmas decorations and they left it that way all the time (I was there in June or July or something). I thought this was amazing, and not necessarily in a good way. How can Christmas be special if you've got a room decorated that way all the time?
southpier Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 for some it's a hobby theme. like Busted Knuckle Garage posters in your den. you could still probably enjoy the afternoon at Lions or Pomona.
kitbash1 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I agree 100% Cheers As scrooge said... It's just an excuse to pick a man's pocket every 25th of December. But now it;s getting earlier and earlier every year.
Custom Hearse Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) It's bad now, but if I start hearing "Jingle Eggs" at Easter, "Let them race, let them race, let them race" on Memorial Day, or "I'm dreaming of a white firework" on July Fourth, I'm gonna SCREAM!!!
