landman Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Tell me you didn't paint this on the kitchen table.
microwheel Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Nicely done so far Steven. I'm with Pat, I hope ya didn't paint that on the table lol, I can just imagine you being chase with a frying pan if you did. LMAO
Lovefordgalaxie Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Don't worry guys. I didn't paint the Plymouth on the kitchen table. Ijust use it to take pictures as there is a big window just in front of it, and there is plenty of light. I have a room, in my garage, that used to be a bathroom, that I converted as a paint booth, with exhaust ventilation system on the window, a filter and all. I even have a ambient dehydrator and heater there for when using Tamiya spray paints. They love to be used on a very hot and dry place.
Greg Pugh Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Favorite car of all time! I'll be watching!
slusher Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Great color and smooth finish. Really enjoying this build Tulio
DynoMight Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Tulio, as usual, the paint is flawless. Great job. I remember hearing you used 4k auto clear? And what do you use to polish your paint? It always comes out great.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Tulio, as usual, the paint is flawless. Great job. I remember hearing you used 4k auto clear? And what do you use to polish your paint? It always comes out great. I use automotive two part clear, but only on metallic paint. On solid paint like this one, I don't. Synthetic enamel also doesn't react well to clear. Since it's automotive paint, I use fine grain automotive polish, usually from 3M and some car wax, usually from Meguires'. The Plymouth is not polished yet, when I took the pictures she was just painted. Only the white roof was dry, but not polished also.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Another update: The body is all polished up. Used 2500 wetordry sanding paper, and extra fine 3M polishing compound. Will wax out the little scratches left by the compound after the foil job is done. Right now I'm painting the interior red. It will be two tones of red, like the cars on the movie. Not accurate for a Fury, but that's what my "costumer" wants The frame is all assembled, but I still have to paint it semi gloss black. I actually think I may finish this thing in time Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr

Red isn't accurate for a Fury in '58 either. Only available in "Buckskin Beige". Looking great so far!! Steve
Lovefordgalaxie Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Thanks guys!!! Love your encouragement That's ok Tulio. Red isn't accurate for a Fury in '58 either. Only available in "Buckskin Beige". Looking great so far!! Steve Yep, I have a 1:18 scale diecast of a '58 Fury. Really well detailed. Let's think this way, if you knew someone that knew someone at the factory, you could even get a red and white Fury, but the car would have the golden side spear, the golden grille, golden accent on the wheel covers, and goes on and on. The cars on the John Carpenter movie were all Belvederes. What I'm doing here in fact is a Belvefury... or sort of. I'm lucky my cousin wants the movie car and not the book car, because the book car was a four door Fury...
StevenGuthmiller Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 It was kind of cool at the beginning of the movie seeing that long row of beige Plymouths coming down the line with one red one sticking out like a sore thumb while "Bad to the Bone" played. Gave you that feeling that this one was "special" and something bad was about to happen of course! The movie was pretty "cheesy" & poorly acted, (Arnie's best friend was a lump!) but for a car guy, especially one who loves Mopars, it was great!! Steve
TFchronos Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Very nice work and progress. The paint looks amazing!
om617 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 The paint looks amazing, have you used polish?
72 Charger Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Beautiful Tulio just Beautiful your cousin should be very proud once shes done
Lovefordgalaxie Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Time for another update. painted all the semigloss black parts. Next, will add the flat black details. Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr The frame was first assembled then painted. Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr The interior is painted. I used Tamiya Italian red as basic color, then brush painted the second tone, and added a coat of semi gloss clear. Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Next is the engine, exhaust, rear shocks...
StevenGuthmiller Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Looking much better than this! Steve

StevenGuthmiller Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Oh thanks!!! if you hated, just say so By the way, I found this very cool short film on YouTube: Just pulling your chain Tulio! It's looking great!! Steve
Lovefordgalaxie Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 (edited) Just pulling your chain Tulio! It's looking great!! Steve I know Steve!!! Don't worry!!! That picture you sent, since the first time I saw the movie I noticed the front grille is divided in two. On the book, the is a dialog where old Darnell and Dennis are both looking at Christine, half rebuilt, and there is half a new shinny grille on her. Darnell then says that he never knew of a radiator grille that would come in two parts. Arnie in fact never picked parts for her on a pile like on the movie, he just did minor jobs. The big job he ever did was to push her around the car lot on the back, during the night while the mileage would turn back, and Christine would do all the job herself. Yes, I red the book more than once. Guilty as charged I always pictured Christine as a '57 Fairlane 500 Club Victoria supercharged while reading the book. Edited November 17, 2014 by Lovefordgalaxie
slusher Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Very impressive work Tulio, I have the AMT proshop prepained kit like your build to do sometime. Neat video thanks..
Lovefordgalaxie Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Another update: Foiled the body and the interior sides: Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Also painted the engine. On the engine I used a scratchbuilt intake manifold, with parts from a AMT 1957 Chrysler 300 glue bomb I got at a swap. From the same kit, I took the carburetors, and the air cleaners, to make the engine to have at least that Christine "feeling" Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Not "correct" air cleaners, but close enough Christine by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Now there is still a ton of detail painting to do before assembling this bad girl.
