PatW Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 White or silver wheels, or even black would look better with a blue bodyshell.
afx Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 White or silver wheels, or even black would look better with a blue bodyshell. Sorry Pat but I am bound by history. The rally car I am replicating ran with light blue wheels. The color has actually grown on me. And its not the first time I built a car with unusual colored wheels.
dublin boy Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I suspect that started out as an AC Cobra from amt or Minicraft JC? It looks like an original AC Ace with the big wire wheels, very nice.

Its a very early Cobra Shay, chassis CXS2026. Delivered the very first win for the Cobra. Here is a link with some more information and pictures. I wish someone would make an AC Ace kit. I would love to build one.
PatW Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Yes afx I stand corrected. Shay has supplied a picture of the Eaton Yale car of the day, which I should have remembered as a rally marshall on the RAC Rally at the time!
Randy D Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Hi JC, The paint looks great and I like the blue on blue look. Different but cool Randy
afx Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) How's it going JC? Gene, I just wasn't happy with the paint finish. I sanded the whole body and re-sprayed it yesterday. The finish looks much more promising. I'll post some pictures soon. Edited June 25, 2015 by afx

afx Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 The re-spray came out significantly better. Once I am sure it is fully cured I will rub out the paint.
afx Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 Thanks Joe. I am mostly concerned with the paint being "smooth". I actually prefer a lower "shine" on my builds.
dublin boy Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Lumpy paint can still look shiny. That's a hell of a lot better JC, factory road Mk2s weren't as good! LOL You won't need much polishing on that.
Speedfreak Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 that does look better JC, you should be good to go.
935k3 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Looking good JC. I always buy enough paint intending on sanding the firs coats down, The second session always comes out better. I learned that in wood shop in high school. The more coats sanded in between the smoother it gets. The reason is most primers are porous and soak up the first layers of paint, color coats seal the primer and you get smoother paint.

I'm not a great painter but I am improving.
afx Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 Any more progress on the Escort, JC?A little Joseph. I finally rubbed out the paint, its not perfect but I think it will work and am in the process of installing the glass. I'll post some new photos soon. Thanks again for the great Minilite wheels and tires!
