Kennyboy Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Went a little different than I usually do on this build, decided to wait to put up pictures of this build until it was near completion. I got this kit from a local club auction......for $1.00!!! The bags were sealed but the body had been painted olive green and was badly wrinkled. Threw the body in the purple pond for about 3 days and went to work at it, the paint had etched into the plastic so I ended up primering over it with Duplicolor Etching primer and then Tamiya fine white primer. The color on the body is HOK Black Pearl painted over Black Lacquer....the wheels and brake calipers are Testors gold thinned and airbrushed. The interior colors were done with Tamiya XF-8 Flat Blue, Testors chrome for the trim, and Testors Gloss Blue airbrushed over embossing powder for the Trademark STI blue carpeting. I am VERY impressed with the detail quality on this kit overall but still added: the bypass valve on the intercooler, all the A/C lines and hoses seen in the photos, the wiring to the alternator, and the enlarged front rotors to name a few. Any questions and comments of course are welcomed! Edited November 23, 2014 by Kennyboy
Tom Geiger Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Looks great! You are a brave man to spray black over that wrinkled body! Glad you got it all to flatten out nicely. I will be needing to get that kit. I'm on a ROG roll lately and I've always loved the WRX.
Kennyboy Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Thanks Tom! I am also a huge fan of the WRX.......I REALLY miss my 1:1! (I am still dealing with the hood yet) The hood is in primer awaiting paint today.
atomicholiday Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 That looks great. Really nice detail! I'm thinking of getting the wife a 1:1 WRX for her next car (because I want to drive it!). Or maybe go a little cheaper and get the Impreza.

MeatMan Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Very nice build. Great detail. This is the first time I've seen someone simulate the coolant in the reservoir. Sweet.

Kennyboy Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Go the two halves of the body/chassis together today........all that is left is to polish out my fingerprints and paint/install the hood. Pics tomorrow! Thanks for following! Edited November 22, 2014 by Kennyboy
mustang1989 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) Thank you Joe! Thank you Dennis! (I also did the light blue for the windshield washer bottle.) Just how DID you replicate the coolant and w/s washer bottle contents anyhow? Is it straight up paint or tinted? Edited November 23, 2014 by mustang1989
Kennyboy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Just how DID you replicate the coolant and w/s washer bottle contents anyhow? Is it straight up paint or tinted? Painted the bottle itself flat white then when dry painted a mixed (white with blue or white with green at around 70/80 parts white to 30/20 parts color) paint to simulate the fluid. Nice work. Thank you Bob!
Kennyboy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Got the car together yesterday and polished so I had to do a photoshoot (even if it didn't have a hood on it!) Pretty happy with how the photos came out......learned alot from my friend (the photographer) and was a huge help with the softbox, external flashes, and lighting. Enjoy guys!
Randy D Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Hi Ken, That engine compartment is awesome !! Hard to beat black & gold. Randy
Kennyboy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Came out great ! Thanks Ray! Hi Ken, That engine compartment is awesome !! Hard to beat black & gold. Randy Thank you Randy! My thoughts exactly......originally painted it black lacquer, then had to put the Black Pearl over it to bring out the body lines.
Kennyboy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 -THE HOOD IS OFFICIALLY PAINTED AND CLEARED!!!!- Forgive me for the shouting but, every step of the way on the paint process it has been a "Walk on eggshells" due to the past paintwork and introduction of something BAD to the paintable surface. Tonight I will polish out the hood and introduce it to the vehicle.........and it will be DONE.
hgbben Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Always liked that body style. Looks amazing Ken. Can't wait till the hood finishes it off.

Kennyboy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Terrific work on a rarely-seen model!!! Thank you Antonio! I tried to find a couple more of these.....but there were none to be had on ebay.
