mrm Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 This is going to be another LaFerrari build. There have been quite few of them on here, so I am not going to bore you with what comes in the Tamiya box or with the statistics of the real thing. First I am addressing the engine. After all it is the heart of any Ferrari. I start with gluing together any pieces I can before painting. Tamiya has left a lot to be desired. However, they are very good at giving you clues where some detail can be added, which is why I love them Let the drilling begin…… Besides all the holes, some details had to be added from styrene. The oil reservoir needs to be plumbed too Some color and wires added and some electrical hardware made. So far I have drilled over 60 holes.
mrm Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 Hey, what happened to the rest of this thread?
Kennyboy Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 If it was added in December, it is now gone.......all postings from December were lost when the server was updated.
Bennyg Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Hey, what happened to the rest of this thread? The thread got lost due to movement of the website. All good. Repost your great work. Cheers. Ben
mrm Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 OK. I guess I will just repost everything up to now. The engine received the first round of wiring and plumbing After all the pieces for the body panels were glued together, all the seams were filled with Tamiya grey putty, sanded and then everything was sprayed with a coat of 2K primer. Once dry, everything was sanded smooth and then sprayed with Ferrari PPG NART blue. After drying for a day, the body panels were masked to leave the roof and some of the front exposed, pretty much like what the instructions show to leave black. Except I am not leaving it black. I sprayed it Lamborghini Hera blue. On the pictures it looks pretty much the same. But the two blues will look completely different once clear coated. They are both metallics, but the NART has A LOT of silver in it. The Hera is a lot finer and somewhat darker once cleared.
cars1206 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 WOW That looks Awesome!!! You have inspired me to try to add some wires to my LaFerrari. I was wondering were the other end of the ignition wires go? I know there is no distributor or ignition box in the kit. I can't find any pics on the web to answer this question eighter. Does an ignition box need to be scratch built and were would it go? Please post more pics as you build. Thanks Mike.
heptoman Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 This is very nice! I am definitely following this - like the car, like the kit.
Chillyb1 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Hurray, another La Ferrari!! I'll also be watching closely.
mrm Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 HI guys. I have not been active on any of the forums for some time because I had a nasty accident. I burned my left hand pretty bad, which put me out of commission for the better part of two months. I hope not gross out anyone with the pictures. They are pretty much the healing process in two week intervals. I am finally fully operational again, altho not 100% healed. Updates coming soon.
slusher Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I know that's hurts. i had my right arm badly burned from a over heating car. Cap neck blew off. Doctor back in the 80's had me put salt water compacts on it to help scarring. I had no scars thanks to him...Take it easy...
dragzz Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 (edited) welcome back i know what u went thu there i went down on my drit bike and the pipe was on my leg so ya it not fun .nice to see u back .that look real bad .what happen to it to get that bad burn if u dont mind me asking Edited March 23, 2015 by dragzz
mrm Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 Thanks for the support guys. I have to ware a glove when in sunshine for the whole summer and when working with chemicals, but other than that my hand is fully functional. Still have some tension in my index finger due to nerve damage, but other than that it is healing really good.
Pizzwizz24 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Wow Michael! You told me you burned your hand pretty bad but I didn't envision anything like that. That had to be a miserable past few months. So good to see its healing up well. Looking forward to seeing some updates soon. Chris
darthsideous Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Man the wiring you did was spectacular. Really sorry to learn about your hand. I hope you feel better soon!
vintagercr Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I'm sorry about your hand. Great wiring on the engine!
mrm Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Thanks for the wishes guys. On a much brighter note, I just sprayed some clear coat on the blue parts. Now they will be wetsanded, decaled and cleared again.
DrKerry Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Glad to see you healing up!!! I had something similar happen when I was in my teens. I was holding a Roman Candle and one of the balls blew out of the side and landed in my hand and had the same marks/areas on my left hand. When I saw yours it brought that back to me....
mrm Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) The colors I am using for this build are based on a real car made for a customer in Switzerland. Except I twisted them a little. The original car is Tour De France Blue. I decided to make mine in NART (North American Racing Team) Blue. Both colors are original Ferrari shades. The NART Blue is very difficult to photograph with a flash, as it has bigger flakes than other metallics in the Ferrari range. My model has a different blue for the roof and center portion of the front. It is unfortunately very hard to capture on the pictures. Here the upper/roof portion of the doors is Blue Herra (a Lamborghini color) and the lower door is NART Blue. This picture makes the NART Blue grainier looking than it actually is, but it shows the difference with the Herra Blue in the middle section The insides of the doors were masked, painted blue, unmasked and then clear coated. This will give a good foundation for all the carbon fiber decals to be added. These parts are going to be mostly covered in different carbon fiber finishes, so they were sprayed with Tamiya gloss black. Stay tuned and thanks for looking. Edited April 4, 2015 by mrm
Roadrunner Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Nice color,... very nice. I'm glad to hear you're healing well from the burn.
Brizio Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I like the two tone paint job, sorry for you accident, but glad that you are recovering and building models.
mrm Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 Thanks guys. The two tone paint job has a hidden agenda. LOL. Basically the car will be NART blue with the roof in matt blue carbon fiber. This is the reason for the two colors. LaFerrari was offered to customers in three general options. All in one color In two tone as the car was introduced to the press Some had body matching mirrors and some had roof matching mirrors As an option you could have all the black parts on a two tone car in carbon fiber And then came the super special cars requested by the super special customers, like this Swiss collector. This is what my model was inspired by. with a flat blue carbon fiber. So my model will be unique and definitely different, but totally within what is possible to order from the factory with all original colors and options.
