Harry P. Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I'm putting this here and also in Off Topic, so hopefully many of you will see it. The lost posts (basically everything posted between Nov. 26-Dec. 8) are gone. It's not financially reasonable to try and retrieve them. So... if any of you posted stuff that you want to see again, please repost your topic again. We can "recover" our lost posts if we all just repost what's gone. That's the easiest way to get the lost posts back.
Snake45 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Thanks for the definitive word, Harry. Now we all know what to do. (Step One: Accept that it's gone, and get over it. Step Two: Start moving on.)
Harry P. Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Yes, it's gone. But we can rebuild.
Speedfreak Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 We are builders!!!!!!!!!!!! Onward and upward!!!!!!!!
Russell C Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 However (seen the adage elsewhere), what has been seen on the internet cannot be unseen. It is out there in more than one place. So, with regard to attempting to retrieve what was out there, try this: First, if any of you happen to remember the date you may have started a post, plop it in a site-specific search like this example for December 2. What I get for the top result is Clayton Scheiber's "What cool trucks, (rigs or pick ups), did you see lately?" thread. When you click on the headline for that one, it gives you an error result like this, a thread seemingly lost. However - click on that teensy solid down arrow at the end of the second line and it pops out a box saying "Cached". Click on that box and you get Google's cache version of the entire thread up to the point of the cache capture on December 8. .......... Now, how can that be transferred back into the MCM forum here? I have no idea...... But this is one way to retrieve thread material.
Lunajammer Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 .... Now, how can that be transferred back into the MCM forum here? I have no idea...... I would think you could just copy and past into a new thread window. This is the page I get. Where's the little arrow you refer to? I'd like to see how to transfer my info back. (Mac OSX 10.5.8 using Safari 5.0.6).

Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks I advance
ERIK88 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 It can be financially reasonable to repost posts on here if there were trades going on, from a few dollars worth to the extent of thousands. For example I was going. To trade , but lost contact and address ...
Hawk312 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) I would think you could just copy and past into a new thread window. This is the page I get. Where's the little arrow you refer to? I'd like to see how to transfer my info back. (Mac OSX 10.5.8 using Safari 5.0.6). After doing your search in Google, the top line for each result should be in blue, and right below that should be the actual URL (http://www.modelcarsmagforum.com/....). I just searched for my Elaenor Mustang, and the line ended with "Under Glass." Right beside the "Under Glass" is a small arrow that, if clicked, should display "Cached." Are you not seeing that? If you are not seeing this option, does anything pop up when you mouse-over either the link or the URL in the results? Sorry if this seems elementary, but I have a feeling many others at varying levels of internet savvy will be reading this in the future. Edited December 11, 2014 by Hawk312
Tom Geiger Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Thanks for the news Harry. Not the news we wanted, but that's life and as long as we know the situation, we can move forward... I'll post the Volare build thread from the start, since I was waiting to do an update.
Belugawrx Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 "We can rebuild it,... We have the technology" Well said Keep Calm and Carry On It can be financially reasonable to repost posts on here if there were trades going on, from a few dollars worth to the extent of thousands. For example I was going. To trade , but lost contact and address ... Repost... and they will come

Here it is. I found my old thread, but it's incomplete and I wasn't able to figure out how to bring it back to modelcarsmag.com. Next might be to figure out how to recover the whole thread then bring it back over. Edited December 11, 2014 by Lunajammer
jbwelda Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 >It can be financially reasonable to repost posts on here if there were trades going on, from a few dollars worth to the >extent of thousands. For example I was going. To trade , but lost contact and address ... that's doesn't make it "financially reasonable" from the standpoint of the owners of the forum. anyway I would suggest you post a "hey contact me" post in whatever forum the trade was going on in. you got to think the other party is probably in the same boat as you are and looking to find you. it will all work out. jb
martinfan5 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I lost a few WIP threads, but no big deal, nothing to get upset over, just reposted them, and life goes on
Russell C Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 .... where is this teensy solid down arrow at the end of the second line. Inquiring minds would like to know..... Here it is. ........... That is the l'il arrow I spoke of, not in the error page result, but in the Google search results. Clicking on that arrow is what brings out the "Cached" button, and clicking on that takes you to the last saved version that Google has.

Clicking on that arrow is what brings out the "Cached" button, and clicking on that takes you to the last saved version that Google has. And then it's "COPY" "PASTE"
Russell C Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 And then it's "COPY" "PASTE" Yes, indeed that can be done. I just tried it with this post that I copied from the Cache and put back into the current thread on using a Dremel as a 'lathe'.
impcon Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) Yes, agreed - it does work! Now, if you can just remember the titles of your threads.. wonder if messages can be retrieved as well?? Speaking for myself, I have created a folder with sub folders on my hard drive and I will begin to save pages with information that I want to keep from the site for suture reference. I'm breaking the saved content up into groups according to categories such as "Special Interest Builds", "How to's", etc. The so called "lost data" from this recent switch is out there at least - it's just trying to figure out what you need. Russel, Lunajammer - thank you very much for sharing that information. I'll just try to find what I want and add it to my hard drive "library" now Edited December 12, 2014 by impcon
landman Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I reposted mine but the old dyslexia took over in the title. How do I correct that?
disabled modeler Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 it might be easy for you guys but for me copy and post has fought me forever...I just don't have those skills.
landman Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I reposted mine but the old dyslexia took over in the title. How do I correct that? OK. Correction is done. Thank you Mustang 1989.
Quick GMC Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 it might be easy for you guys but for me copy and post has fought me forever...I just don't have those skills. 1. Highlight text 2. Press control + C at the same time 3. go to where you want to paste 4. Press Control + V at the same time. It's the easiest thing you can do on a computer
Russell C Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 1. Highlight text 2. Press control + C at the same time 3. go to where you want to paste 4. Press Control + V at the same time. Or for those of you with Apple computers, for the #2 & #4 steps, you press the Command key (with the ⌘ symbol on it) and the C key / V key.
