Revstew Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Oh wow those look amazing. Love what you have going with the new hoops!!! Could you PM me some info on that lathe. I have only used one a few times but have been wondering if worth the investment and learning curve. Great wheels.
exesivefire Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Got the fronts now, getting the hang of this. Really glad I got all the attachments and adjustable hand wheels. I think I'm ready to try and make the coil overs.
Belugawrx Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Oh Yeah,....Much better I want I want I want Dad Dad Dad Dad Dad Dad Keep on going Cheers
exesivefire Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) Test run for the throttle bodies. Need to pick up a number size larger bit for ease of assembly later (these had to be pressed in with a vice) Also going to make them a touch longer so I have room for a fuel rail and linkage Edited February 14, 2015 by exesivefire
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Nice work. Couple of questions. What type of aluminum did you use for the wheels? Have you done machining before?
exesivefire Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Nice work. Couple of questions. What type of aluminum did you use for the wheels? Have you done machining before? I ordered 6061 and 2024 aluminum. I haven't really done anything before. I used a lathe back in middle school. YouTube helped with basics though.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Cool cool cool. Fine looking machine work, sir.
exesivefire Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 thank you! I managed to get 6 to look alike, now to try and drill them for the linkage...
exesivefire Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Drilling for the linkage was kinda meh... I need a jig of some sort. I did start the fuel rail though
exesivefire Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 Another shot.. They are all just loose on there so don't mind the wonky one in the back
exesivefire Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) Ok being a perfectionist I decided to redo them after I had a better idea Edited February 16, 2015 by exesivefire
wayne swayze Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Absolutely beautiful work sir! Looks like your investment on the lathe was well worth it!
exesivefire Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Thank you. I'm picking up on it little by little
slusher Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Injectors/ Throttle bodies are amazing. Great work..
Dirty Dave Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I'm glad that you stayed with the more modern alloy wheels, though the steelies were giving it a cool dirt track modified vibe. Still watching in awe as this progresses.
exesivefire Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Thanks guys I'm really happy with how this is progressing
Project510 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Ok this is not even fair now.. those wheels are sooo nice
exesivefire Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 Continuing on the exhaust. Finished up the header, decided to combine the two exits into one, seemed the easiest for what I have planned for the exhaust, using stainless wire that I polished, and turned a stainless muffler on the lathe. I had good success making the dump on my mustang out of stainless, so I decided to try and take it a step farther. It's hard to get the pretty colors that stainless turns with paint. I think this was the most convincing way. I'm not sure I like the exit yet, but I'm making progress. I will make a stainless tip when I decide where I want the final exit to be.
exesivefire Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 Ok so I decided to bite the bullet.. I needed to drill through the back of the frame. I took my time and it turned out well, so I remanded that tail pipe. I also made a band clamp for the connection between the header and the pipe. Still deciding on that, might try that one again. I'll make the tip when I get everything finalized.
