bill_67 Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) I bought the monogram Aston martin DB4 off ebay. I wanted to build a 007 kit, but my modelling skills don't justify $100.00 for the James bond DB5 kit so i settled. When i got the kit it was missing half an engine some suspension part. I put the kit away and gave up on it. Then i saw a design by Bo Zolland for a volvo p1800 wagon with large wire wheels. I finally had a direction to take this kit, I used the suspension and engine from the early amt viper. The paint is ppg waterborne aston martin silver birch code: 1180. I was about to finish this thing today when I tried to install the glass and found it's not even close to fitting. So I'm going to make the window from something, install the interior and exhaust. Please feel free to criticize I'm really starting to hate this kit. Thanks for looking. Edited December 14, 2014 by bill_67
o-man Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 That looks sweet! I hope you stay motivated to finish it.
bill_67 Posted December 14, 2014 Author Posted December 14, 2014 Thanks for the encouragement, finished the interior today will get the exhaust done tomorrow. I will try to make glass for the car using a 2L clear pop bottle and see how it goes.
Pizzwizz24 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Those wheels are awesome! Where did they come from?
mustang1989 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) That's CLEAN!!!! Edited December 15, 2014 by mustang1989
seeker589 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 You are building the Aston that "Q" kept for himself! Sweet build- looking forward to seeing it finished!
Belugawrx Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Really like where this one is going ! Was the Viper a die cast kit? Looks like it only needs some attention around those inner front fenders.... Very cool Cheers
bobthehobbyguy Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Great start. Looking forward to more.
n7plus1 Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 car looks awesome...though i have 2 criticisms: not feeling the wheels...not sure if theyre just too big or what..maybe an 18" version would look better to me? too low on the front...too much rake.
Cesar Bossolani Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Awesome Bill! I really love Alloway's style raked stance! Take a look in spinners and adjust them as correct each side! Keep us posted!
Fat Rat Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Hmm, a viper engine in a classic British sports car? It's very different, in a good way. Hope to see more of this one. Good luck.
bill_67 Posted December 26, 2014 Author Posted December 26, 2014 Thanks for the comments and the criticisms, the stance is a little more of a rake than I planned. Something happen between mock up and after paint assembly, and after fighting with that terrible cracked, Stressed, poor fitting glass I wasn't worried. Cesar, your right about those spinners, good eye I never noticed that. Thankful thats an easy fix.
Kennyboy Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Great looking ride Bill! Love the style!! I'll have to remember the DZ's.......I am building the Zolland P1800s (and later the wagon)
crazyrichard Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 i love this !! , just because they would never do this to a original body / car due to the value .. maybe like a replica .. so what you are doing is just cool .. likehow it could look if somebody was crazy enough !! in fact a Aston Martin db4 custom exists its a http://www.v12-gt.com/var/v12gt/storage/images/galerie/galeries-photos/galeries-classic/aston-martin/aston-martin-db4-zagato-3-4-arriere-gauche/28923-1-fre-FR/Aston-Martin-DB4-Zagato-3-4-arriere-gauche_zoom.jpg and zagato made some versions but you just cant find like a mordernized / restomod like db4 so this is quite unique
Jeremy Jon Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Now that's a hot rod, super cool & smooth clean look, slamm'd stance, awesome!!
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Great concept, good looking project. If I recall correctly, the old Aurora kit has some proportion and detail deficiencies that make building an accurate stock version a little frustrating, but it looks perfect as a custom. Enough Aston-Martin to be instantly recognizable. Very nice.
bill_67 Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the comments guys, I really needed the encouragement with this kit. Just about done with it, I have to black wash the grille, and install the little lights. I've ordered some photo-etched parts like seat belt buckles, wipers. I will post under glass when these things come in the mail. Thank you for looking, Bill. Edited February 3, 2015 by bill_67
