rmvw guy Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 We currently have MG. Toyota, Dodge, and VW, who wins the debate from our garage? I don't know. I do like Fords and Chevys also, having owned several in the past. Wish we could have kept the 35 or so cars and trucks we have owned over the years. What a collection that would be! I have never been faithful to only one brand.
slusher Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I am just not a GM guy. I own a Chrysler Sebring now and prefer Chrysler or Dodge products. Ford is my second choice.
mnwildpunk Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 I see this question hasn't cleared anything up for me
chunkypeanutbutter Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Get a British sports car and never turn back
om617 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I dont know how good the north american models was, what i do know is Chrysler made a lot of crappy cars that was sold here in europe. Many of these was more or less chrysler badged french cars. The only bad i remember from GM was the SB diesel imported in most cutlass and caprice wagons. The 6,2 and later 6,5 model, including turbo was pretty good. There was also lots of ford vans with the 7,3,sounded like a stone crusher, but not much trouble. Most american cars form this era had bad lights, poor gas milage and was crude put together, but all in all solid cars.
Tom Geiger Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Get a British sports car and never turn back because you just sit there in your driveway trying to get it started!
chunkypeanutbutter Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 because you just sit there in your driveway trying to get it started! That's part of the fun! I love my Triumph even though it's barely a car at this point...
Earl Marischal Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I'd rather have a Triumph Vitesse or Dolomite Sprint than any of the classic big-threes. Class choices. I had a Triumph Vitesse Saloon Mk II for 11 years. Spent a fortune on it but it was a great car. steve
Tom Geiger Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 That's part of the fun! I love my Triumph even though it's barely a car at this point... Robin Williams used to own an old Land Rover. He said he liked it because you never knew what would happen next! And if you think I'm funnin' on ya... remember I own a Jaguar!
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Get a British sports car and never turn back I love British cars and have owned many...still have a big ol' Jag XJ6 (last of the REAL Jags). But It just might be prudent to buy yourself a cheap old Honda or Toyota to get you to the parts store to pick up the inevitable relays, carb diaphragms and fuel pump points you're going to need.

We have an '87 XJ6 that needs new floorboards. Has since '04 when we drove it one winter and it got ruined.
Rob Hall Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 The funny thing about old English cars is they often were unreliable even when new. My ex-brother in law #1 had a Triumph TR6 he had bought when it was a couple years old...o remember when the car was a few years old he was constantly working on it, fixing something was broken or out of adjustment. What I like about modern sports cars like the Miata is you get the fun driving experience without all the misery of old British cars.

What I like about modern sports cars like the Miata is you get the fun driving experience without all the misery of old British cars. To some of us old gearhead masochists, the "misery" of having to tinker occasionally is just part of the fun. It also always kinda seemed odd that cars made in a wet country would never start in the rain, and had soft tops and body seals that always leaked water on your seat. Must be a lotta British masochists too. Edited December 23, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
Rob Hall Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Yeah, I just don't have stomach for it, I guess . I have no interest in wrenching on a car, but I love driving. I love reliability.
Rob Hall Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 As far as the original subject, I've never gotten hung up on brand A vs brand B arguments. I've found there are cars from most brands that I find appealing, and every vehicle I've owned--domestic or import- has had its pros and cons, some more than others.

I understand. There's a lot to be said for having a good chance of actually having the car start when you turn the key, and of getting to where you want to go.
Longbox55 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I can think of one that's just as bad as the car brand arguments, perhaps even worse, the gaming console wars. Playstation vs xBox.
FASTBACK340 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I'll cut right to post #68 and say "Same church, different pews". Now go build sumpthin…..

Rob Hall Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I had an Atari console back in the day, and have a Dreamcast and PS1. Haven't used them in many years. I may be the only one of my peers that was never a big gamer....
chunkypeanutbutter Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I have an Atari 2600, Intellivision, Sega Genesis, NES, N64, PS1, and five PS2s
