Roadrunner Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 (edited) This may or may not belong here, I have no idea. My brother found this slide image (taken by my father), of a model I built when I was a kid. I don't recall the manufacturer, but I suspect it came configured this way, as I seldom changed anything. It's one of very few photographs I have of anything I built when I was in my youth. Paint is rough, but It was the best I could do at the time. It's wonderful to reminisce. Roadrunner Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 Thanks, fellas. Does anyone know what kit it was? You'd think I'd remember, but I sure don't.
Roadrunner Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 After snatching a box of old instruction sheets from my storage area, I was able to identify the origins of this car. It's the AMT Funny Car Mustang-GT, released way back in the 60's. Oddly enough, this very same car is available again now; just saw them on feebay. (I think I'll be buying another!)
Silver Foxx Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 An oldie but a goodie , nice to see an older build .
AC Norton Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 the chrome is shiny and perfect, like the reissue....amazing its held up after all these years, considering the chrome on the early issues was semi gloss at best....truly amazing....the ace....
62rebel Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 it hadn't aged at all, that was a picture taken when it was a fresh build. i don't recall chrome being any less shiny in the old days.

If nothing else, they serve as proof positive that I built a particular something, like the 1:8 Big Deuce, and this Mustang.
mustang1989 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Now that is just cool to have a blast from the past like that even in pictures Kevin. If you ever want a trip down memory lane there has been a recent re-release of it.

Oh yes, definitely on my "to get list" now, especially with recent confirmation received that it is indeed the same kit. Edited March 17, 2015 by Roadrunner
'70 Grande Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 So, I have a question for the model kit historians out there; does anybody know if this kit was derived/created by AMT by them taking their factory-stock, 1966 Ford Mustang kit and putting the drag racing chassis and engine underneath it, and then altering the body to make it an altered-wheelbase body with those enlarged rear wheel wells? Oh yeah, definitely a cool old build of yours, Roadrunner! I, too, built this kit back-in-the-day, and was really proud of the Purple metal-flake paint job that I did on it back then. Sure wish I had more than just my memories of it!
Roadrunner Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 I really can't answer your question, Mark, but I do so wish I had a few of the kits I built as a kid, but sadly, they're all long gone.
vintagercr Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 That must bring back good memories. I wish i had kept everything I had built
Roadrunner Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) Received the kit yesterday, and am very anxious to make a start of it. Edited June 14, 2015 by Roadrunner
Roadrunner Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 I could stand it no longer; today I prepped the body for paint, so tomorrow i primer, and if all is good, start shooting color coats.
mustang1989 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 That's what I'm talkin' about Kevin!! Go for it buddy!!!
Roadrunner Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 I intend to, Joe. I'll probably start a new thread in OTW though.
