Porscheman Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) I painted this in Tamiya's gloss black with Testor's wet look clear top coat. The interior was done in Tamiya's semi gloss black. The windows were lightly tinted with 3 light coats of Tamiya's clear blue. My friend John White made the white walls, using the kits supplied tires. John did a beautiful job, even though the tires are really bad. The Corvair in the last photo is an original 1960 SMP Corvair kit I restored last year. Thanks for looking at my 2nd build for 2015. cobraman Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Cool cars. I had a 67 Monza years ago and I thought was a pretty good car. Till someone ran a stop sign and it was totaled . : (
kruleworld Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 looks pretty smooth. how was the kit to build?
Porscheman Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Thanks it's a pretty straight forward build. The only issues I had with it were the wheels and tires.I had file the front edge of the hubcaps level with the sides so the whitewalls could be seen and the wheel backs had to be thinned to fit the tires. I also don't like the way the rear tires fit in the wheel wells. Otherwise a nice kit. Al
Porscheman Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Very well done. What's on the roof in the first two pics? Thanks Lee. That's the reflection of my garage door in my super smooth black paint job. Lol
vintagercr Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I love Corvairs. I learned to drive in a 61 4 door, 3 spd and then bought a 66 Monza for $75 and drove it my senior years of height school.
Ron Hamilton Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I always enjoy looking at your buils, Al.
Speedfreak Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Very nice Al, I like it. '69 Corvairs are so cool.
Sixties Sam Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Nice!! Great paint job! My first car was a 65 Corvair convert, and my wife had a 65 coupe. They were nice, except for the heater/defroster that blew smoke into the interior, and of course, the oil leaks! Sam
peekay Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Looks great, Al. In fact I'm inspired to go buy one right now. (Even though I have a mint 66 convertible.)
Porscheman Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 Thanks everyone. Got to love Tamiya' s gloss black, never had a bad finish. AL
rmvw guy Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Nice pair of Corvairs and nice reflection of light on the glossy paint job. The '60 looks exactly like my first ever car I repaired in 1:1 auto body shop. I learned all about one piece bodys on that project and installing window glass. The car had been rolled. Ralf Nader would have been proud of your work.
Danno Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Looks great! {Love Corvairs!} Question: It looks a little high in the front end. Did you raise it, or is that the kit's stance? Regardless, that's an excellent black finish!!!
Porscheman Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Looks great! {Love Corvairs!} Question: It looks a little high in the front end. Did you raise it, or is that the kit's stance? Regardless, that's an excellent black finish!!! Thank you. It's the kits stock stance. The kit has a metal front axle with 2 positions, stock and lowered for custom. The custom stance is just too low and looks off. AL Edited January 22, 2015 by Porscheman
