James2 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) I purchased this AMT 60 El Camino as a Christmas present for myself and will be doing another restore/mild custom similar to the Buick I did this past year. Trying a few things. Workking on a custom grill and light combo. Thoughts? Edited July 23, 2015 by James2 Title
southpier Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 could the headlights be moved a tad closer together without much trouble?
James2 Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 Started sorting things out on the 60 Camino. Shaved, Lowered and Patience. Going with some 58 Chevy Tail Lights and of course some Bellflowers out back...

Greg Pugh Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Well, I loved your Buick so I'm sure this will be no different! Subscribed.
James2 Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Bumpers and tail lights added. Just trimming and fitting at this point...
James2 Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) All cleaned up, Fooseifided bumpers and added some scalloped scoops to the side trim. I have decided to call this one "El Diablo" from the DC Comics Edited March 7, 2015 by James2
Stray Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Looking cool. What you guys call elcamino's is basically just a ute to us. And we love our ute's over here!
James2 Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 I have decided on this style paint by the man, Gene Winfield. Color will be more yellow than gold. Thanks again for the interest.
Ramfins59 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 That is looking pretty cool so far James. I'm not a big fan of those scoops on the side trim though... But it's your model.
'70 Grande Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I'll be watching this build along with many other forum members; your work so far is excellent and your choice of final paint style should make this project go thru the roof of "coolness"!
James2 Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 Thanks guys. Richard, I'm not sold on them either. I stuck'em on with future just to see what they look like. Right now i'm leaning towards BMF!
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I don't normally get too excited about these sort of customs, but this looks exactly like the type of thing I would like to do if I ever did one. Maybe just a "tad" low for me, but I love it! Steve
James2 Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 Thanks Tommy, no it is an old AMT kit from the 60's.
James2 Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Back on the bench. I had a spot that kept bleeding and not curing and after trying all day. I decided to drill it out and fill it with auto bondo. Updates to follow. Edited July 12, 2015 by James2
72 Charger Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 This is a cool build James Ive never seen that before . What do you think caused that ?
James2 Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 It started as a sink mark out of the mold I believe. I tried to fix it from the inside with C/A glue and Tamiya filler from the top side. That was some weeks ago. Some how it never cured completely. Maybe I sealed it in by priming to soon? I am at a loss! I'll try the body filler and let it set up good this time.

A good trick for filling holes like that on bodies is to heat up a piece of sprue & stretch it a bit. When it hardens, cut an inch piece on one of the ends where it tapers like a cone shape, close to the size of your hole. Then apply a little super glue to the piece & wedge it tight into the hole. Once the glue cures, you can cut & sand the sprue piece flush on front & back. That way, very little filler is required to smooth out the repair. I use this technique all of the time for filling those antenna & mirror holes on old built kits. Steve
