Carmak Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Last week I stumbled onto a liquidation sale at the former Lindberg warehouse in Cedar Rapids, IA. In one of the boxes of models I discovered a 61 Impala convertible kit with what I assume is marketing sample artwork. The box art artwork was ripped off of the top and two sides but what remained are really interesting. They are just taped on the box with clear tape. The artwork contains printers alignment marks and hash marks fro where the box would fold. It also has a new kit number "73304". Although the box art proclaims a "Free Hotties Figurine" the kit is completely stock. Enjoy the pictures. Carmak
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Do you suppose someone nixed that idea for fear of the kiddies bringing home a half naked girlie with their Chevy? I'll bet "mom" would have been clogging up the phone lines @ Lindberg. Steve
Guest Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Glad they didn't. There is enough degradation of women in society without the model companies joining. No, I am not a feminist, just someone who cares about people, and feel women deserve far more respect than they get.
ChrisBcritter Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I think we're being distracted from the most important part: Last week I stumbled onto a liquidation sale at the former Lindberg warehouse in Cedar Rapids, IA. Why don't I ever stumble onto something like that? So Carmak: Besides this kit, what else did you find and what kind of prices were the kits going for?
Carmak Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Chris, The non-coke branded car kits in regular size boxes were $10, the Coke stuff and cars/trucks in bigger boxes were $15 and the L-700 with trailer sets were $20. I think someone has bought all of the kits as a single lot now so the party is over There were a couple 2010 era MPC retro re-issue kits (which I though strange for Lindberg to have). Other than that I did not find anything else unique, just a few kits I felt I needed. I stopped short of going crazy as i am happily married and i would like it to stay that way. I used to find interesting stuff at the ERTL outlet store in Dyersville, IA back the the AMT/MPC era but never a marketing sample. You are fairly close to Revell/Monogram. Do they have any kind of an outlet store? Carmak
Carmak Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Steve, I would agree. The "hotties" on the box art are a bit much for a kid. Carmak
Daddyfink Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I know lots of Diorama builders where bummed when those figures did not make production. I just like collecting model figures and I was bummed
FASTBACK340 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Glad they didn't. There is enough degradation of women in society without the model companies joining. No, I am not a feminist, just someone who cares about people, and feel women deserve far more respect than they get. X2…..
Zarana-X Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I think if they came up with a better term than "Hotties", It might seem less offensive. I don't see anything wrong with the figures themselves, unless you wore that to church. There's a time and place for everything, and they look like any number of people you'd see at a car show.
Lunajammer Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Maybe Jairus can shed some light on his contribution to that box artwork.
1930fordpickup Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Did not even know Lindberg made a convertible of that year. As far as the Hottie figures go they nothing wrong with what they are wearing. We may not like the name but that was what girls are called right now.
Guest Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 X2….. Thanks! Did not even know Lindberg made a convertible of that year. As far as the Hottie figures go they nothing wrong with what they are wearing. We may not like the name but that was what girls are called right now. Doesn't make it right.
Roadrunner Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I see nothing wrong at all with that marketing idea, and wish they had been released with some decent female figures, if for no other reason than the novelty of it.
Guest Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 To those that think the exploitation of women is ok, remember, it could be YOUR daughter there.
iangilly Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Lindberg is owned by round2 who also produces mpc. That's probably why you saw mpc stuff there.
Tom Geiger Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Lindberg is owned by round2 who also produces mpc. That's probably why you saw mpc stuff there. He was actually at the J Lloyd facility, former owner of Lindberg who sold it to Round 2. Most likely everything in that warehouse was made before that sale.
Daddyfink Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Most of this "degradation" is self inflicted. Go to a car show, night club, shopping mall and tell these girls to cover up because they are degrading themselves and get ready to be ripped up one side and then down the other. Telling women how to and not to dress is oppression in its purest form! "Doesn't make it right." To you "To those that think the exploitation of women is ok, remember, it could be YOUR daughter there." Sure, if they are underage and live under your roof, tell them what ever you like. Grown women on their own? Good luck! And no one here is endorsing the exploitation of women! And to the topic at hand, cool box and too bad they did not release the figures!
Johnt671 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) Hotties was used to say that someone look good, or hot. It applied to both females and males. I think it is still used today. All of you people carrying on about the term need to go loosen your underwear. Edited February 14, 2015 by Johnt671
