Twokidsnosleep Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Nothing riske or sexy I am fighting my rubber tubing that comes in kits as they are wound or tied up and come out all weird and curved when I unwind them Tried some friction to get them to straighten, meh. Worried I will melt shrink them if I heat them Anyone got a super simple way to get a nice straight tube? Example: See the curved grey tube on the F40 engine wip
Mike Chernecki Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Try hanging the tubing with a fishing weight tied on one end. Tape one end off the edge of a counter and tape the weight to opposite end and leave it sit. It should straighten out.
Twokidsnosleep Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Ahah, off to a good start....just have to keep them away from the darn dog, she would love chewing on those dangly tubes Thanks Mike!
afx Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Insert some wire inside the tube then it will bend the way you want.
Foxer Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) How about finding a copper wire that will fit fairly tight within the tube? Then you should be able to bend or straighten to whatever shape you need. eheh was typing as afx's suggestion came up. )) Edited February 18, 2015 by Foxer
Jantrix Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Insert some wire inside the tube then it will bend the way you want. Some solder will fill the tube and be very bendable.
Twokidsnosleep Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) Now we are rolling I will try that wire/solder trick on the tubes that I have already glued and use the hanging weight trick on the ones not yet attached Funny how the simple solution is always right in front of you Thanks Guys!! Miatatom Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Here's something I came up with. I used it to thread the tubing between the nails to get the shape I wanted and used a hair dryer to get it to keep it's shape.
Twokidsnosleep Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 Hey I like that...a forming platform, NICE! Thanks for sharing it
