StevenGuthmiller Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) Probably not a lot of interest in another one of these right now with Peter Kennedy's Beautiful blue factory stock example, Rob's "daily driver" on the work bench & Sean Svendson's pro-street example all making debuts in the past couple of months, but I've been meaning to build one of these for more than 20 years & now is as good a time as any. This started out as a basically brand new "USA Oldies" kit that I picked up a while back &, of course, I will be building it stock. I picked the color for this one based on a '62 New Yorker 4 door sedan I had seen in town many times this past summer. The color is "Sage Green" & the interior will be black & tan. Just in primer at the moment, but hopefully color will start going on tomorrow night. Steve Edited March 7, 2015 by StevenGuthmiller
Ron Hamilton Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Steve, I love the idea of this build. The Modelhaus has the 300H interior in resin, as that is what I am going to use when I do my '62 convertible. The USA Oldies interior tub is actually from a '65 Chrysler, with a '62 Dashboard. Go get'em!!!!!
Stray Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 It's a nice looking car. And you will build it differently than the others. So who care's if it's been done before? Go for it!

Go get'em!!!!! I thought about that Ron.....After I had already ordered some other parts from Modelhaus! At this point, I don't want to wait for 6 weeks for an interior tub so I'll just use what came with the kit. I thought that tub looked a little familiar after just building a '65. Must have come from the '65 promo. The kit had separate seats. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 It's a nice looking car. And you will build it differently than the others. So who care's if it's been done before? Go for it! Well Stray, I've already built a '60, '61, '64 & '65 Chrysler, and I have a '63, '66, '67 & '68 left to build, so I need this '62 to fill in the gap at some point. Steve
slusher Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I always love the 62 Steve so i will follow along with great interest...
peekay Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Steve, you've certainly got my interest!!! Building one of these gave me a new appreciation of its smooth, comparitively understated lines.
Mopar - D Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Steve as it's been stated here this is a very interesting car to build and I will also be following your progress. I have built this one as a 300H using the Modelhaus interior and also the Convertible. I have also slowly been working on the 300 from 1955 to 1970. So far I've built 2 - 62's and 68. I have kits for 55, 56, 57, 58, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67 and resin kits for 69 and 70. One of these years I will have the complete set. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Bob Ellis Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 The reissues of the Johan and MPC kits all have the same problem; last version of the interior used. Good luck on your 62 Chrysler.
taaron76 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Looking forward to following this build, Steve! Tim
Can-Con Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Can't have too many '62s on the go Steve. I'm thinking on starting up on my custom version again too. Maybe too many '62 Chryslers on the go by Steves though ??
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Thanks guys! I'm starting to consider rebuilding the interior a little, but it all depends on how ambitious I get. I have 2 old interior buckets, so I guess it's worth a try. Problem is, I have limited interest in this build as is & if I get too carried away with it, I'm afraid I'll lose interest all together. I'm thinking of removing the front & rear seats & replacing them with something more akin to what would have been in a "standard" 300 that year. Re-working the door panels a bit, & smoothing out the rear package shelf. I'm also considering replacing the counsel with just a plain transmission tunnel & maybe putting a bare bones four speed stick in it. Who knows, I'll probably just wind up living with the '65 interior. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Color coats are on. May have a bit of an issue with the hood. Think I may have laid it down too heavy. I'll let it dry & see how it comes out. Steve
taaron76 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Looking good, Steve. You can never lay the clear coat on too heavy! Tim
charlie8575 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Another brilliant build underway. Nice color, Steve. Charlie Larkin
