Thanks Gary. Here's another view that shows the whole front clip with flames. I was going for a really subtle look going for the "Ghost of Street Demons" look to pay tribute to the Street Demons series of this truck released back in 1983. Just gotta smooth it a little and go for another coat of gloss clear. We're off to the races now. lol

Thanks guys! Jim the decals are from Anarchy in Australia. :D

Fellas I've spent the last seven months on this truck and it's just been a total blast to build. I have, however, now caught myself trying rush to the finish line for next Saturdays show in Austin and it just aint gonna happen. I got off light this morning by trying to clear coat the hood. The flames cracked after I applied the clear. I knew better as the dark red hadn't fully cured out. Again I got off light as it could have been the body. The hood's easy, just throw it in brake fluid and strip it (this makes the 3rd time for that hood too) and start over with it. No biggie in the "big picture" of things really. I've still got the mask ready to go for this next time and will now be taking my time with it. I do plan on hitting the show in Houston next April with it though.

For those going, I hope to see you in Austin. I'll be packing the Challenger T/A and a couple of aircraft builds to take up there.

Show's over!!! I'm back on this one 100% as of this morning. First things first, I chunked the hood into the brake fluid this morning. I didn't even look back as I'm ready to just start over with that part. I had some fit issues with the side step fit interference at the front of the rear fender blister area at both sides. Fortunately I don't have to trim anything as it is an assembly order thing. All I have to do is install the bed first and then the steps so that problem is solved thankfully!! If any of you guys are going to the San Antonio show I'll most likely be done with this one in time for that.

This morning I installed the tail lights and license plate. Here's a bed test fit to show the results of that........

Thank you Dave!

This morning I cut about a 1/2" off of each side of the rear bumper and currently have it immersed in brake fluid to remove the chrome plating. After it comes out of there I'll clean it up and treat it to a coat of Alclad II chrome and buff it out. I've got some retaining bolt heads for that license plate as well. Hmm.....may have to fix that up.

The overall fit and look so far:

Carl: Thanks and no sir I didn't get to take it to the show but its all good anyways. It's a little bit from being done.

Dan: I appreciate that and hopefully I'll get this all right this time.

Just to show that I'm still pluggin away at this ol' mule I snapped some shots of the most recent gloss coat this morning. There are still a few traces of cracks but I'm going to be wet sanding that out and polishing that all out with the Novus. I believe this will be the final coat of gloss on the body. I managed to shoot the same coat of gloss on my hood.................again!!! Hood has the same shine as the body here.

If you look closely you can see the flames where there isn't a shine. It's what I was aiming for.....a VERY subtle hint of flames.

It's coming along great, Joe!  I haven't had any bench time, but I have been following this thread closely.  Can't wait to see it finished!

LOL. I get about an hour per day in the morning through the week but on the weekends I tend to get 3+. It doesn't count for much when I have to keep going backwards though!Indifferent

Looking good Joe and with all the rain we are suppose to get this weekend you should be able to get a little more time to work on it. I know I'm planning to with mine.

The paint job looks good. I think the flames will really make this truck. Oh And I think you have the stance just right.

Thanks a lot Dan and Gator!!

All I've gotta say is that when I did the gloss coat on my Challenger build a few months back either 1.) God was with me , 2.) the stars were all lined up just right, 3.) Hell did in fact freeze over or 4.) it must have been pure dumb luck because this paint job here has given me a run for my money!!! I'm still in the fight and aint giving up though!!! This morning I wet sanded all the minor cracking I saw in the gloss finish over the flames on the body and polished the heck out of it with Novus 2. I also repainted the flames on the 4th friggin paint job on this hood and will be letting that all gas out for 3 or 4 days before attempting another gloss coat on it. The roof got a wet sanding and polishing as well and I glued two retaining screw heads onto the rear license plate to tidy that up a little. It was a busy morning since 3:30 a.m. and I got to spend 4 solid hours on this thing so I feel like I got a lot done with it.

I ended up lightening the pics up a little so the flames can be seen a little better. Under the right lighting these things jump out at you.

You can see where the finish is a lot smoother in this photo particularly at the front of the fender area. I'm surprising myself with these results.

The flames on the hood came out better this time around IMO because I thinned the decanted paint a little more and got it to come out a little smoother.

Here's a shot with everything installed as it's gonna be. So far I've got good feelin's about this time 'round.....

Thanks Dan! Yeah that'll make two of us on looking forward to seeing this one finished pal. I can't wait to get this thing off my bench! lol ........and to think this was supposed to be ready for the show on October 10th. What a laugh. lol

Thanks Gator!

I got to re-looking at the hood and scoop and decided that the scoop needed some engine numbers on it. I had a set of decals that said "BOSS 429" on them so I decided to cut the BOSS part out and trim up the 429 numbers and apply them. I'll let 'em dry out and clear it in the coming days. I think it added a nice touch to the front of the truck.

Image

I now have all the Street Demons kits as of last Thursday. I see another 429 going into at least one of these...possibly the 54 Chev or the 41 Willys. Decisions, decisions, decisions....... Hmm.... :hmm:
