Model Cars Magazine Forum

I see people saying their hobby lobby doesn't have BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH for models. Each store is different, my local Hl has a HUGE selection of model cars (probly 50+ car kits alone, and a lot of really good ones. Huge selection of testors paints, glues, epoxies, putties, and other models like planes, helis, tanks etc. There's a hobby lobby outlet store here (like the ross or marshels of hobbies) where they send their sample and no longer carried products and I get a few models a week there for 6 to 8 dollars a pop. That's like 60 to 80% off on brand new unopened models lol. Can't even buy them that cheap on ebay, Craigslist, or online. Love that darn store!

I am not a religious person and I typically don't care for in-your-face religious types, but I haven't experienced that at Hobby Lobby. Nothing is shoved in your face and to complain about the music they play in the background is absurd. If you don't like it, don't shop there. I do find their stance on the issue they were going to court over is extremely hypocritical, but that's another conversation.

I find it really hard to believe anyone could be genuinely offended with religious merchandise on a shelf and religious music playing in the background. If you go out of your way to be offended by things like these, you have other problems.

I did find many useful things there. A nice extra large hobby mat, pointed sanding sticks and a few other things that have come in very handy that I could not find at Michaels or my LHS.

I don't think you read the bulk of this thread. Go back and you'll see that Hobby Lobby has an overwhelming amount of products throughout the store that are useful to modelers, not necessarily in the kit section.

That's what I was thinking. Man talk about walkin' around with your eyes closed. -_- But then again, it's only 40% off, that's almost half.

Wow! I'd like to see that, bet they have a bunch of good deals. :)

Ya they don't carry any one specific item and you never know what you will find. Kinda a first come first serve thing. I always buy all the car kits they have on the shelves, usually 2 to 5 kits. I got an Iwata hpm2 airbrush for 50 bux in perfect condition. Just never know what you will find so its always a treasure hunt for me. I do live in Oklahoma and I think their HQ and distribution center is located here. I don't know if they originated here or not off the top of my head. And if the music is religious, at least at my hl its always instrumental like elevator music so you would have to know religious music to recognize the songs. At least at my local hl's.

Wow! All of this over a place to buy models and other supplies. I don't care if it's run by Martians, if they don't try to convert me into one. I'd like to a Hobby Lobby someday. We don't have them in the Twin Cities yet. I saw in Duluth a couple of months ago. But, didn't have time to stop.

Since I'm not a vampire, I don't have too many problems walking into stores with religious items, like crosses. I may not spend too much time in the religion isle though. Hate to take any chances.

Spot on Skip. When we take of the blinders we find new things.

I'd say both are equally bad. More wars have been fought over religion than politics. Every religion pretty much has the same good intentions, but every religion does have their fanatics. In fact, as we were experiencing 9-11 my thoughts were about a Muslim friend of mine and how devistated he would be over the events.

I have lived all over the world, as well as having worked in International companies for the past 35 years, so I am well versed in embracing people of different cultures and beliefs. In fact I enjoy knowing people who are quite different from myself.

I agree that I'm uncomfortable with people pushing religion on me. I don't answer the door for the Jehovahs. I have my beliefs but I don't believe it's appropriate for conversation in the work place or hobbies. I don't care what color you are, your sexual orientation, your religion or your politics, I'm good with you as a friend in the hobby. In fact I have a good friend who I knew 10 years or more before it came up that he was Jewish. Religion had never come up and nothing changed in our friendship.

Now back to worshiping the little plastic cars!

Great point Tom...

In all the years i've been going to Hobby Lobby, no one has ever came up to me and asked about my religion. Me and the wife go to them any chance we get and look through the whole store. I have been from Arkansas to California. Biggest one I have seen was in Texas. If your that worried about it, shop hobby lobby online. Then you won't have to go out in public. As for the wife and I, we will enjoy the interaction and be able to see all the things I may be able to use in our hobbies. It really is as simple as "no thanks" or "not interested".

Right on target, Paul! I agree; my experiences have been the same.

If you don't like all the "stuff" there, then don't look at it. The Hobby Lobby around me has only a couple religion related things, and I don't mind it. And if you don't like how the politics of that store have been going on, then take your business somewhere else... Simple as that.

Exactly...the politics and religious angle of the chain's owners is why I won't shop there, won't give them my money. There are plenty other sources for hobby supplies.

I don't think anyone here is trying to sway anyone else to go to Hobby Lobby or convert your faith or absence of.

You don't like Hobby Lobby JUST DON'T GO. We are lucky enough that for the time being we still have the option to do as we please.

I know I boycott companies for my own personal reasons......But I don't post them everywhere or shame others because they do not agree with me.

Be thankful you can still choose....you could loose that someday.

WOW! It's Christmas in July as I stopped at my local Hobby Lobby today to browse around and they had a lot of Christmas decorations up already including trees. Talk 'bout getting; the "jump" on things, I think they "red lighted." LOL!

My son is a manager for a large drug store chain. They were told to prep for Christmas stuff as soon as school has been in a week.....trying to get a jump on others.....seems they all are doing it.....should be illegal until black Friday!!!

Scott,

There is one in Woodbury off of Woodbury drive - right next to Sam's club. Talk about two places you would NEVER find me in!!
