With the arrival of the Moebius Hudson Hornet, and the impending reissue of this and the JoHan '59 Rambler, its shaping up to be a good year for AMC fans. "Round2, the company that currently owns the licensing rights to AMT properties, has recently clarified that the Gremlin will be restored to a stock hardtop" ..... Round 2 received loads of positive feedback on the new kit announcements for 2012, in addition to the last group of items for 2011 being shown. The AMT690 1976 AMC Gremlin X kit in the new Original Art series is a hit, and for those of you who weren't able to make it out to the show or haven't seen photos, we've included an image of the finalized box art here. We've just approved the finalized pad-printed samples of the new M&H Racemaster drag slicks in flexible thermoplastic rubber and they are dynamite! It's incredible how fine the pad-printed artwork can be. The ultimate in modeling realism! Also debuted at iHobby was the AMT691 Dirty Donny "Vantasy" Custom Chevy Van kit, due for release in January. This is another kit the Kats at AMT have reworked, taking the body back to its circa 1975 configuration. As many of you know, the Chevy van kit tooling was modified and updated to create the A-Team GMC van from the early 80s TV show. With the potential to reissue many great Chevy van kits that were available prior to the A-Team release, the decision was made to backdate several body details: The roof ribs and some side trim have been removed; the recessed area in the left rear door has been added back for the license plate and the Chevy Van scripts have been added back to the front quarters. The sunroof cutout has been flashed over so the builder now has the option of whether to install it or not. Simply open the flashed area to use the sunroof. For the side "porthole bubble" windows, it was decided not to add the holes back into the body. The builder can drill 1/2" holes in the desired locations and install the bubble windows from inside the body. Or, the the bubbles can optionally be mounted on the outside of the body, without drilling holes. This, in our opinion actually looks better, and to improve the appearance even more, we reduced the width of the trim ring around the window. There are even porthole blackout decals included on the HUGE Vantasy customizing decal sheets (yes plural, the kit includes TWO decal sheets, each at 6" x 9" in size) that give the appearance of darkness inside the porthole windows. In related hot product news at iHobby, Auto World announced their new apparel line and consumer interest was overwhelming! The first product is a custom, 1960s Le Mans style racing jacket that screams retro coolness! It's available in 3 styles: AMT, MPC and Auto World. Each design has a pair of racing stripes up the left front. The AMT version features a classic AMT logo patch on the left arm, the AMT Speed & Custom logo and lettering on the right chest and the Kat from AMT on the right arm. Stripes are red and black. The MPC jacket features blue and black stripes with vintage MPC logos on the right chest and left arm, plus "Model Products" lettering embroidered on the right arm. The Auto World version features black and red stripes, classic variations of the Auto World logos on the right chest and left arm, and the infamous "hot rod crest" for the right arm. Also available is a high quality camp shirt featuring the classic Auto World racing car logo embroidered on the front pocket and Auto World lettering on the left sleeve. Camp shirts are available now and the jackets will be available mid-November, all through the Auto World Store online and at the Grape Road retail location in Mishawaka, IN, next to Best Buy. 2012 is shaping up to be an outstanding year.
