1965 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible

Years ago, I was able to get my hands on a barely started JoHan 1965 Plymouth Fury Convertible Kit. The windshield header was broken off, and the skirts were cut out. I got the replacement windshield header from the Modelhaus, and installed it into the body about 12 years ago. I plan to use as much of the kit parts as possible in the interest of a good fit.

I have to scratch build a set of skirts, and source a 426 Wedge V8, which I have. I have a few projects ahead of this one, but I want to get it done to go with my '65 Dodge Polara CHP Car,

and 1966 Dodge Polara 500 Convertible.

This is what I want to end up with.

Today, I revisited the '65 Plymouth Fury Convertible. One of the problems I had with Johan back in the day, was that on the Plymouth and the Dodge in the mid '60's, the promos were the mainstream cars (Plymouth Fury/Fury III, Dodge Polara), While the kit interiors depicted the sporty level cars with the bucket seats (Plymouth Sport Fury/Dodge Polara 500), without the differences in the one to one world.

Last week, I was able to pick up a '65 Plymouth promo interior, which had the front bench seat moulded in, so I can do the car as a somewhat correct '65 Plymouth Fury III convertible.

One of our club's themes for our next NNL is going to be "Full Sized Muscle", so this Fury should fit right in. I want to do up a 426 Commando /TorqueFlite for it.

As far as the running gear is concerned, I am going to use the factory full wheel covers, with a set of Blue Streak Tires.

I have to prep the body for primer, and procure an engine/transmission for it, As for colors, Dark Blue, Silver, or White with a Blue Interior and Convertible Up-Top has always looked good to me with this car. I am stoked.

Boy does that sparkle!!!!!!!

Another reason why I like hardtops! ;)

I'll be watching Ron.

I have a bunch of these mid to late 60s Mopars to build in the near future, including a '65 Fury hardtop & a '66 convertible.

I've also got to finish up my Chrysler 300 line up.

I've already built a '64 & '65, but still need to do the '62, '63 & '66-'68.

I guess I have a lot of work ahead of me! :P

Silver with the blue interior would be a very attractive car.

If a blue top was available, I'd go with that. Otherwise, I think black goes better with silver than white, just my thoughts.

Full-size muscle is the theme for Mid-Atlantic NNL? Let me see how time and funds go. I'll have to get down there if I can.

What windshield frame did you use for the '66 300, Ron? I have one with the same issue, and haven't found a replacement yet.

Modelhaus makes a 1965/'66 Plymouth Fury windshield frame which should work for that Chrysler. In 1:1 all the divisions from Chrysler shared windshields for their full size makes. I think that's where Ron got his, as it looks to be the same frame.

Exactly. I cut the frame off at the bottom of the vent windows and windshield frame, and I remove the remnants of the same from the kit body. I line everything up with the door frames, and carefully glue it with CA Glue or epoxy.

I have a '68 Plymouth Convertible where the frame broke, but the part was intact, except for the vent windows, and the break was clean. I reused it, and fitted it back on the body, and used plastic rod for the vent windows.

I was going to use the resin part, but I gave it to another modeler who needed it for a car I sold him. I prefer to use plastic wherever I can, but the resin parts work out well when the plastic parts are not available.

Ron glad to see that you are keeping this thread going. Looking forward to seeing your 65 Fury progress.

Thanks Dan. I worked on it tonight, and I got the body ready for primer. I am 99% sure that I am going to do it as a Fury III, with the bench seat, since I have the promo interior tub, and the fender skirts were cut off by the previous owner. I blocked the body and it looks pretty good to me.  I put the car up on its wheels, and I am pretty stoked about this one. I have to go into my paint stash and see what I have to paint it with. If I can not get a factory color, I'll just say that it made a trip to Earl Schieb.  I'll look at the brochure again for that. I saw your '65 Satellite, and it's looking good. I have a Satellite mocked up too, ready for primer. I have to decide whether or not to do a Vinyl roof. A friend of mine had a Gold Satellite with a Black interior, and Cragar S/S about 1970, which was a nice car. I am trying to stay away from Turquoise. If I can, I'll take a photo of it tomorrow before I blow it apart for primer.
