  1. Too bad about the decals, other then the messed up decals it looks good. I really like these cars, looks like I'm going to have to get few for the stash.
  2. Super job on the rims and tires and the stance looks great.
  3. Very way out there, I like the way you went with this build, nice job on the doors and hood. I wish more builders would go the custom rout with these big trucks.
  4. I have a project that I need 1/12 scale mid 70's Indy tires/rims and the Granitele engine and tranny assembly. This engine was a DOHC with reverse cross flow head design (may not be the right description). It is very similar to the engine in the 1/12 Tamiya Honda RA273 kit with the exhaust exiting the inboard side of the head. I know AJ Foyt drove a Coyote/Ford with this engine and I think it was also used in the one of the Olsonsite cars. The description name I have of the engine is it's called a Granitlel STP Indy V8, if that helps. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Curt
  5. That's cool looking, you've done a real nice job on it, I like the under hood detail. I actually had the real thing as it is on the box art. Now if I can only find a kit of it.
  6. Great idea, can I add my Flying Frying Pan build into this mix? No problem if my WIP is too far along for this. I understand and wouldn't want to be the pushy type.
  7. WOW that's sure is a wild paint job, very nice. I'm going to have to give it a try soon.
  8. Nice work on cutting out the panels. Best of luck with your goal.
  9. Thanks for info on that wild ride RF too bad you got stiffed on the DVD. Also thanks on the prop on this WIP. Just a quick update of a mock up with the wheels and body on.
  10. Ha, when I first read your post I was mifed at what I was reading. I thought I had made a double post. Looks like we got CB's mind awhirlin. Great minds think alike.
  11. Thanks Mike, I'll check it out, not sure if we can get it up here in Canada. Sounds like it would do the trick, I'll check with Parts Source and other body repair supply shops, they'll have something similar.
  12. Ok so now that I have the tires on the way to being settled I'll turn my attention to the drive train. I've always been a fan of the CVT power transfer system ever since I spent a few seasons wrenching on drag and snowcross sleds. These systems always have the motor at it's peak power and don't have the issue of rpm drop between shifts that a normal tranny does. That being said I thought I'd have a go with that "system" on this build. So I'm making my own case for one of these bad boys. Given how big this rig would be if it was 1:1 I tired to scale as best I could what the actual size might need to be for the primary and secondary clutches. Overall the case would stand a wopping 37" tall and the big end would be 21"dia. I didn't want to build the case completely from scratch so I pieced it together using axle parts from a monster truck. I used the steering knuckles as the primary end of the case and the planitary hubs for the secondary end. Then used styrene sheet to enclose the case. The planitary hub had to be cut from the outter hub and repositioned inward. I then shimmed the hubs so as to be a tight fit into the hub. The case looks vertually the same front and back. I still need to do the cometics on the case but I'm pretty happy with it so far. I also workout the basics for the suspension and axle placment. Next I mocked up the case in the chassi, which is from a sprint car, the engine will be from the Grave Digger kit. Hope ya enjoyed the veiw, more to come real soon.
  13. Thanks. I would love to see that car for real, how tall are those rear tires? They look like 33"s .
  14. Thanks for the thought George, but I have my doubts that it would be sandable. But I will contact 3M tech support they may have some suggestions.
  15. Model, Again I'm putting my money in the details, if this was real, the size of the wrinkle in the back drop woud be a real pain for the photog. they'd have tripped over it once and it would have been fixed. No way any pictures with that big a wrinkle would have made it to print. IMHO.
  16. Stunning build, the interior is awesome. You've done a super job on the interior, my family had one a few years back with the same interior and you've mached it quit well. Bravo.
  17. I'm currently "building" a set of tires. What I've done it cut up a set of monster truck kit tires and have put them back together with ca glue. My issues is there are gaps and imperfection that I'd like to fix. Does anyone know of a compound that will bound to this material and still be sandable once set? Thanks in advance for any help. Curt
  18. After thinking about going out and buying some quality molding/castig material I figured I could save a feww hundred dollars and just "build" the tires myself. So this is what I did; Cutting the centre 1/3 section out of the tire and a good chunk out of the dia of what was left of the outter edges I CA glued them back together. I think they'll turn out fine once I figure out what material to use to fill in the gaps. The bigger one is the uncut kit tire. Next I sort out the chassi and drive train.
  19. It's coming along CB. When I first saw the hood leaning up on it's side against the front tire I thought you were thinking of building a sno plow. LOL.
  20. Thanks CB. Oh I have planes for that set up with another body, a late 60 early 70 Malibu.
  21. This is the pile of parts I'm starting with. Next I decided to cast my own wheel/tires from peicing together rims and hubs from a combination of the F1 wheel/tire and some tread from the monster truck tire. After the first casting it looked as though I was making good progrerss. Further proding found a huge air pocket in the side wall. Since the materials I cureently have for casting are not very good i decided to scrap the casting idea. I'm going to build my own rear tires.
  22. About a year ago this started out as a Fujimi 240z Fairlady that was going to be turned into an SCCA racer. I had fitted a 1/20 Ferrari F1 engine into it. Surprisingly the engine was the same length as the in-line 6 that came in the kit. Any way it turnd into a failed kit and was boxed. I pulled it out to build into a wacky racer. It started out with 1/12 F1 front wheels/tire for rear wheels/tires and normal 1/24 wheels/tires for the front. I wasn't happy with the look and scraped the idea. I have since turned my build plan into a mini 4x4 monster. These are the kits that I have started with for my idea. I'll only be using one of the engines out of the Tom McEwen kit. Updates at 11:00.
  23. Great job, the decals look awesome as does the rest of the build. These kits are way harder then they look, if you want it to look good. I did the "Mothers Worry" last spring and was very surprised at how much planing was invovled in the painting and building squence for one of these things. To get mine to "look" like it was in a perpetual wheelie I used expandable foam as smoke then painted and shaded it. The pic here doesn't do the smoke justice, but you'll get the idea. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23541
  24. That is fantastic, one of the best looking Opels I've seen done in strip form. The rear wheels really make it.
  25. Very cool and impressive looking, but is it just my PC or is anyone else seeing it out of focus?
