  1. This is a thread about models not when we started tracking years.
  2. Good thread, but yeah maybe repost this in a year. What would make a kit denoted as kit of the decade? Would it be the options it offers, or would it be the tooling or the number of units sold. IMHO I would have to think it would be the tooling process and how close it would come to an actual 1:1 vehicle it represents. That being said it would have to be the Tamiya Enzo, with it's separate panels. The level of tooling and engineering to achieve this is quit impressive, and to have it in a mass production run is astounding. Not being an insider in this industry but having been involved with mass product production from design to market I can say Tamiya must have made some leaps in their production technology, materials and methods with the Enzo. On the other hand seeing how this hobby has been dying a slow death over the past number of years I would have to say that a high sales number of one particular kit would have be a close second. If nothing else it should at least be considered solely based on the numbers/units sold as kit of the decade. Which would that be? I have no idea.
  3. Oooh , now I understand. Sorry rhoadapple didn't mean to step on toes. By you starting your thread it did helped me to put my thoughts down in writing, so it's all good. Part of this hobby is about therapy isn't it? It seems I've been more of a collector then a builder over the past 18months. Back in Feb 08 when I got full bore back into this addiction erm, um I mean hobby I only had 60 kits, all of them were Tamiya (I was a bit of a snob ) . Since then I have accumulated another 165 kits (90% domestic) yet I've only managed to finish 10 with 10 more returned to the box. Yet another example of why my "collection" will be worthless, most of the kits will have been started. I'm hoping to be more active once all my home renos are done, around May, June 2010 and the house is sold. Happy building everyone.
  4. In response to roadapples subject on not being able to build all that is in his stash I thought I would add my thougths and share my situation. About 2 yrs ago I too had my own epiphany about the number of kits I had at the time (about 60) when I relized my hands and fingers were in such rough shape that I had better start build the kits that I had been buying and collecting for 15+yrs (I was a Tamiya snobe, not any more though) . At the time modelling was an after thought in my life if I saw a kit that caught my eye I bought it and put it away, nothing more. I had originally had a 40yr plan for my collecting buy game. I had the intention of getting back into building when I was too old to live the life I had been. (I was/am an exterme sports enthusiest, riding triple black diamond down hill mountian bike runs, BMX, etc.etc). I came to the relizeation that my hands/fingers are probablly going to be too damaged and crippled to be any good at building kits. So at the age of 40 I started building again on a regular basis. I solved part of my issue of a growing stash with only buying/searching for kits that were of any importance to me as a kid, or of kits that I have given away over the last 20yrs. I now have a modest collection of over 225 kits. This includes my special 7 kits that stuck out in my mind from when I was a kid. I also came to the realization that since I seldom build OOB and mostly kit bash, my collection should be worhtless when I'm gone. I'll leave a note in my wil stating to give all my kits and building tools and supplies away here on this forum and on the other forum I'm on. That way MY kits and builds will go on as insperation for many years to come after I'm gone. roadapple, has your epiphany turned into a root and take hold of you?. Like george said try to stop thinking about it and just build, bash and buy. You must get a similar feeling as said by 59elcamino when you look at YOUR stash. Me, I get great pleasure from going down to my stash and supplies and know "these are all MY choices". I may not ever get around to building them all but at least they are all mine and when I have an idea or need a part I know where to go. Don't worry, build and be happy now .
  5. If you still want to try and get it farther apart put it in your freezer for 24-48hrs. I've had some luck with this method, I've done it with 20+ yr old kits. Anyway, I'm not familar with these cars but I reall dig the black and red one. I think it would make a great vacuum form project car.
  6. I like the wheell/tire combo it really suits the era of that car. So um ya no crushing it, please, this is looking very coool. You could call it "The Purple Patients Eater", 'cause it sounds like this thing might have consumed some of yours.
  7. Great photos, and the build is coming along well. Where did you get the engine from?
  8. Thanks RJ I took a look around the site. Pretty neat site and some good looking art but I didn't find what I'm looking for.
  9. Wow what a great score welcome back to the wild world of modeling. This is a great site to help relearn your skills on, you definatly have some great projects to build on from the look of things.
  10. Looks like you really wanted to build the van anyway. Good luck with the build, I would have voted for Christine.
  11. Sorry I should have provided more info. I don't know the actual name of the kit. I only know for certian that it would have been from the same tooling as the 1/20 MPC 4x4 Van "Shock Treatment" kit. The kit I'm looking for was molded in black and was of a hunting theme, same kit with the same features as the Shock Treatment kit except it had hunting rifles and bows included. I've also sent an email to the Round2 guy to see if they can help. I have purchased the "Shock Treatment" kit off these guys. http://www.gasolinealleyantiques.com/kits/...ktreatment1.JPG I hoping to find the box art so as I can replicate the actual kit I'm looking for. I've just spent the past hour searching google and bing, without any luck. Again, any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Curtis
  12. I'm looking for box art from MPC truck kit that would have been out in '80-82. I've googled it without luck, any suggestions of where to look for older kits. Thanks
  13. This is very cool looking, I especially like the wheels/tire combo. Where'd you get them from? I have a need for them on a salt flat runner.
  14. Well I voted wrong but my back peddling coments on the stitching and colum wire saved my butt. Great looking build, and wow, what detail. @ Bill (Mr. Obsessive) you need to change you screen name to something like "Mr. Not as Obsessive as the guy who built the Rover" lol.
  15. http://www.scale-auto-style.com/main.php I stumbled onto this site today via eBay. Seeing as there are few option for us Canadian boys to shop at "home" for aftermarket parts, I thought I'd post this up for the Canadian tuner builders or anyone looking for a good duallie pick-up conversion kit.
  16. I voted real. But, as I type this I'm going to say model, is that wrong? As many of you have said, something doesn't look right, too me it's the stiching in the top that says model. It's very wonky, it's not something that would come from a factory. Also the wire leading from the steering colum looks out of scale. If this is a model it's huge.
  17. Interesting and very artful, um, er, or should I say creative subjects you build Wolfie, I like them. Can I ask where and what gives you the inspiration to build creations so far off the main stream? Your weathering is great. Nice bit of "photo" bending in the last shot.
  18. Must be the new stealth model.
  19. Monty is correct. The paint works great straight out of the jar, as for primer, your better off going to an auto parts store and getting some automotive primer, like Dupli-color, it sprays great out of the can and also comes in a filler/sandable formula.
  20. Great subject, your makeing some good head way. The November issue of Hot Rod Deluxe has a 5 page spread of the rebuilding of that car, I just picked it up today. If you can't get it PM me your e-addi and I'll scan it in and send it to ya.
  21. Looks great CB, aren't you worried about the ballon eyes shrinking over time, or are they just for mock up?
  22. AEWSOME build, the line flow really nicely from front to back.
  23. I'm going with real, if it's a model then it's in a huge scale. Either way it's an awesome looking race car.
  24. This is another example of the great imagination so many builders have on this site. I'll be following this build for sure. Best of luck with the mods and the learning curve.
