.....the MPC  Dyno Don Cougar funny car, and the Air Lift Rattler of Fast Eddie Schartmans  from the late 60s issues had those, I believe. probably the STP Cougar of the same vintage too. I could be wrong here, but I seem to recall this from friends building those kits when we were young drag race freaks, and building nothing but......the Ace.....

I am building a trio of cammers for my dio. What is the lion/leopard/panther logo on the bottom ones?

....also, Pat,,,,not Cougar related, but a very nice set of SOHC covers are included in the AMT 68 Shelby GT 500 kits.....the Ace...;)

My guess would be a Cougar. Were these VCs from a Cougar funny car?

Couldn't tell you. those engines were in a junkpile I bought on eBay.

Sorry, they are NOT included in the current de-contented kit. You'll have to get an older issue. NONE of the optional parts except the SOHC fan belt is in there now.

That would be one expensive display of horsepower sitting in someones shop.

Yeah, I figure somewhere at 50K each. What do you think?

Sounds about right. A friend of mine had a short block many years ago. He searched forever to find heads (pre internet) and the only ones he found were in really bad shape. The guy wanted like $10k for them. He ended up selling the short block for $20k. This was probably early 80's.

There must be a lot of different versions of that SOHC engine - I also have three sets of valve covers and none of them match yours:

Bottom ones were on an original issue AMT '68 Shelby engine I got from eBay. Note the #1 plug on the driver's side would be firing into the cam gear instead of the cylinder.

Middle ones were on an unidentified mishmosh blown 427 that was in a "Here Comes the Judge" '57 T-bird (but probably originated elsewhere).

Top ones were also in the "Judge" T-bird and I think they're original to the kit; I'll be using them on the Shelby engine since they look closest to correct, plus I have the breather caps for them.

Now to find some kind of headers... maybe from a Revell gasser? Pat, what did you use?

Your Top set are the same as are in both of my '68 GT-500 Shelby Mustangs. Both with #6541 on the Box, although one has a Green Car with Black outlined Orange Decals and the other has a Red Car with White GT-500 Rocker panel stripes.

My headers were from the pile of junk engine. I have no idea what they were from. Here's a somewhat better picture.

Pat, where did you get the stands the engines are sitting on???

I have a Kenz and Leslie cougar funnycar on my desk , and the SOHC valve covers with a cougar on them is in it ,,chances are they're in all the AMT cougar AA/FC kits

I do think the spark plugs are in the wrong area on most of these.... I've got several books with actual SOHC's and the leads are nowhere near where they are on these valve covers.... oh, well. something we more or less have to live with.

Two comments...1) Pat...that is a way sharp diorama and your SOHC engine builds look terrific....2) Steve Perry has done extensive research and now casts up what he considers to the the most accurate SOHC cam covers out there....his product line is at calnaga.com and his pricing is very reasonable...TIM

33 Willys kits have a cammer too, IIRC, it's nice. I've got them in as many mid 60's Fords as I can, the 66 7-litre, the 68 Shelby, the 69 XL all have parts.

Stuffed one in a 65 Continental. The Cougar conversion must have come in an annual along there too, as I've never had the funny.

Nice stands.

Calnaga stuff is awesome btw.

When I was doing my research,I found that the early engines had the spark plugs at the bottom of the valve covers.
