I've had this kit for a while. I went to see 4012 in Scranton, PA last year, and it inspired me to build it. I'm sure someone that knows what they're doing could have done a better job, but I enjoyed it. Thanks for looking.

Nice build!  Saw one of those at Steamtown when it was in Bellows Falls, VT, and again when they dragged her south to PA. AWESOME!

Very kool. We have one of those in the Train Museum in Frisco, Tx. I also saw one when I went to work with my grandpa in the mid 50"s. These and the late 60's Union Pacific's double engine diesel electrics are may favorite.

Looks great. That's really a nice static kit in my opinion, and yours looks well used but well maintained. The silver painted smokebox and firebox were seen on a lot of steam locomotives.

Of course the side rods were usually bare metal when the engines were in service, for easier crack detection, and had to be wiped down frequently. Yours look good.

The PRR (no Big Boys there) is said to have painted their side rods with a white substance that was supposed to enhance crack detection, but I've not researched this thoroughly.

Beautiful machine.  :D

The Big Boy locomotives are cool.
I have seen the 4014 (the one they are restoring) at the Rail Gigants Museum at Pomona Fairgrounds in California a couple of times...it was some years ago now.

... would love to see/hear one of these in action.

Here's some more historical background about the locomotive and the Cheyenne shops where 4014 is being rebuilt.
