I stumbled onto my next project while doing a summer clean out at the in laws. While dropping a truck load of house clutter off at the town barn, my eye caught sight of the towns beloved Brockway 361.

as you can see it's been lovingly cared for, and who doesn't love a Husky !

The chassis I'm using is from the IH paystar dump truck for simplicity.  I gave Dave Natale a call for all the Husky parts I could source, and as always he was very helpful getting all the details identified. The other parts I needed are those huge 22.5 2 Hole budds sourced from moluminum,  and the correct size tires from Gary at gwtrucks. Building a truck like this would be nearly impossible without all the help from the aftermarket and friends , so thank you !

A few days later, a packed box from Egg Harbor arrived..I couldn't resist a mock up.

Rummaging through my stash of Evergreen,  I found these decent size C channel that looked right. Cutting out the dump bed floor from .040 sheet and added the C channel ribs. Later the outside rail will get skinned w strip to box everything.

The tilt frame was fabbed from square tube , the notch in frame will be where I place the tilt hinges

While that dried , I cut down more 040 for the bed sides . The height was based off pics , shown around even w cab drip rail...serious eyeball engineering lol. Lastly the side ribs were attached and the short cab guard was fashioned.  Photos showed it barely even with the rear cab panel. Guess it's protecting the wet tank  !!

thanks for watching the 361 come together  !

Hey Tesla - tickets are free to watch ! I actually pulled the resin cab out last night digging for a few parts , I really had the bug to mess w it...but must finish the 361 first

Thanks glad ya like it ! Nice simple flat panels then add plenty of detail eye candy to fill the voids...

I started fab on the last major part, the rear gate . I wasnt planning it to move keeping it much simpler,  just hinges and details to look busy  ! My squirrels get distracted enough w builds , making everything move , and they'd never get anything done !

square tube , 040 sheet and a few drops of glue got me here..then I spotted the small access door...my OCD went ballistic

that over hang will be sanded flush and rounded over .. the door tracks are 90 degree angle and triangle strips for the ribs . Next to add the swing hinges and lift cylinder for that door .

Back to work !

Great looking build.  I like the box.

Thanks Jim !  Scratching one was easier than modifying a kit one..except my usual error of getting parts cut straight lol

Small update for today ! Moved forward..way forward from the last update . I figured it was time to knock out the plow frame , and pto pump.

Bashed together more evergreen angles and sheet ..and lost enough Meng bolts to the carpet monster to seriously risk an emergency re stock order . The few that landed close enough the squirrels gathered up. Those tan hooks were off a 1/35 Abrams...a quick calculus equation showed the size difference was close enough lol

A peek from behind also shows the new engine mount for the NHC 250 the 361 will have . A traded ACar from Dr Kerry came in handy this time..most of my builds get " green leakers "

Small update , pint size actually  ! The reference truck had an unusual air cleaner mounted and I really wanted to capture that detail . Hoping for a donor part yielded nothing and it was suggested to build one..that's my favorite thing to do!

Heres the style the 361 has..

Digging thru parts turned up a few parts oddly enough from a Mack..shhh dont tell ! The main body off the R model, another half off another terrible glue bomb I trashed and my friend Evergreen !

20190824_204724.thumb.jpg.c3cf170f7a4b76db8098b2a9abd256f8.jpg

I cut the can right inside of the strap , and flipped it around the other side . That left a gap, which was covered w 015 strip. The top section was off the bomb , a small tube riser attaches it . After I added a small pipe to each end that rubber elbows will attach.

Later a section of modified rectangular tube will attach the air cleaner to the cab.
