DRH_97 Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Stared a new project tonight. This was our family car when I was a teenager in the late 60's. Ours was black, with a 390 4 speed. I actually got to take this hot rod out occasionally.
espo Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Is the bottom photo of the black GT your family ride ? This is a nice kit and a great subject. I built one when they first came out and the only issue I encountered was the wheel backs put the tires, particularly the fronts, to far out. May been the builder, but that is an area you might keep an eye on. Always enjoy building models of cars that I either owned or was somehow attached to when younger.
lordorion1974 Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 I just finished one about a month ago, dark metallic blue with two white racing stripes and a white interior. I found inspiration from some google images while doing research and fell in love with the scheme. I'll post a picture of her later on. It's a nice kit that goes together well in my opinion.
iamsuperdan Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 On a somewhat related note, I wish the 66 Mercury Comet Cyclone would get reissued. My dad drove one in the 80s. Same platform as the Fairlane if I recall. I think I also read somewhere that the molds for that kit are long gone, so reissue won't be possible. Anyway, I like the subject, will be watching!

It is not our car, but looks exactly the same.
beeRS Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Thos is looking good. I think this is one of AMT's finest kits. I'm inspired to crack on with my one now.
Tom99 Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 (edited) I would love to find a 66 or 67 Fairlane, 390 four speed car. That’s a car that has been on my wish list for many years. Keep the pictures coming on your replica! Edited February 1, 2020 by Tom99

I also lowered the front by 1/16" by relocating the spindles.
MeatMan Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Looking good! I've always loved that year Fairlane.

In 1966 he purchased a new Pontiac Lemans, 2 door hardtop, midnight blue with a white bucket interior, 326 4 speed car. I never got to drive it. He only had it 2 1/2 years, so I was 9 years old when he sold it.
iamsuperdan Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 WHich red did you use for the interior? I need a better option that what I'm using now. Yours looks good.

DRH_97 Posted February 8, 2020 Author Posted February 8, 2020 adding some details including Barber Motorsports Museum personalized plate
'70 Grande Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 I'll be watching this one to the finish! It looks really good thus far. Gonna try your paint technique on the next interior that I paint.
Bob Ellis Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 This model is why I miss ERTL. They did great new stuff.
DRH_97 Posted February 10, 2020 Author Posted February 10, 2020 Wrapping up final details. This was a fun kit to build. Overall quality and fit is good.
66belair Posted March 14, 2020 Posted March 14, 2020 Nice build, I have one I am starting in Tahoe Turquoise. What brand of red paint did you use for the interior?
DRH_97 Posted March 15, 2020 Author Posted March 15, 2020 Testors flat red enamel, buffed with a soft cloth after it dried.
