Svake Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 (edited) Hello, Have had this kit, JO-HAN, Cadillac Eldorado Rancher, some years and have now started on it. Now I see it does not look as the one on the box or instruction, not the same year model. Is this normal for JO-HAN to do so? Have anyone here built it? Svake Edited September 27, 2022 by Svake
stitchdup Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 yes thats the kit that goes in that box.
Svake Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 Aha, thank you! Was some funny guys there at JO-HAN, but made some nice objects. 1
avidinha Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 (edited) That's a different body, it looks like a '76. That's disappointing. Was it sealed when you got it? Edited September 27, 2022 by avidinha
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Yes, that's the kit that comes in that box. It's well known by collectors that the box doesn't match the body inside. I researched this thoroughly prior to doing an overseas trade. If you want proof, look for online photos of kits built and for sale. Here's some video evidence: 1
Can-Con Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 For those who don't know, JoHan took a shortcut and shared the entire chassis and under hood details from the Olds Toronado with the Caddy Eldorados. That's why the distributor is in the rear on the instructions and kit, it's an Olds engine, not a proper Cadillac engine. The only change they made was put CADILLAC script on the valve covers. 1
Mark Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 All of the Rancher issue Eldorado kits I have had were '76s, but I understand that that box was used with some earlier bodies when it was first used. After about 1975, Jo-Han kits can be a crapshoot when it comes to the exact year (in a couple of cases), plastic color, and definitely what decals will be inside the box.

There was a lot of interior swapping going on towards the end. Steve
Lunajammer Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 The Eldorado Rancher I bought and built as a kid in 1973 was the correct body shown on that box with correct instructions. Later model Eldorados, like the one you have, continued to use the same box and instructions.
Svake Posted September 28, 2022 Author Posted September 28, 2022 Thank you all for all good information about the kit!
BubbaBrown Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 A few months ago I was going to build a Maverick by Johan and it was going well until I realized there was no chrome. So I grabbed another and yes again no chrome. These kits are up to about $50 to expensive to keep opening.
Oldcarfan27 Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Just found this thread. Might answer some questions. Then again, it might just make more.
