Hey everyone, I guess that was quite a bad start and I believe I owe all of you a big appology!

I was so overwhelmed by all your modelling activities and didn't think at all it seems!

I hope you'll all give me a second chance which I won't disappoint!

I'ts up to you of course!

Sorry again!

Jürgen!

I don't generally spend any time on the truck forum, but after reading your apology, I was intrigued enough to see if I could discover what your offense was.

Really, it's not a big deal, but you just need to take a little time to familiarize yourself with all of the aspects of the forum.

Be sure you are posting in appropriate areas, and above all, learn some of the "unwritten" rules of the forum.

One of the biggest being "Thou shalt not hijack another's thread".

In other words, if you want to post pictures of your own models, start a thread of your own.

You can post a photo of one of your models, or a particular aspect of one, in another person's thread, if it has relevance towards the subject at that moment, or if the OP asks for particular information where a photo of a model will illustrate what he is looking for, but NEVER, under any circumstance, post photos of your own models on someone else's thread just because you want to "share" your builds.

It only makes you appear to be an "attention hound" and you will be quickly ostracized.

Might be nice if this was a "written" rule.

I've had a couple instances where so many me-too, me-too builds got posted on a WIP thread of mine, and non-readers assumed that the other poster's work was mine, I quit the thread.

As you say, it's one thing to illustrate how another builder solved a problem the OP might be having questions about, but something else entirely to post shots of "similar" work in the look-at-me-too mode.

It's also rather a fine line sometimes, and a post in the spirit of "helping" can easily be misinterpreted as rude attention seeking. Probably best to err on the side of caution. I have, on occasion, posted a link to a build thread of my own as a reference to a question about something specific on someone else's build thread, but I try to make it pretty obvious it's an answer to a question the OP asked. Still, sometimes it doesn't feel right.

On the other hand, I'll often post a shot of my own work in a "question and answer" or "tips and techniques" thread, to illustrate a technique or the result one can expect from employing a particular technique or material. Which is completely different from cluttering up someone's WIP or Under Glass thread.

A little common sense, consideration, and thought go a long way to avoid stepping on toes inadvertently...but then again, this IS the internet in 2023.

There are those among us who seem to be actively looking for something to be offended by.  ;)

It is poor practice to post photos in someone else's thread, but not against the rules. Members have different thresholds for what they consider constitutes hijacking a thread. Moderators step in when the OP brings it to our attention or when other members just can't resist the opportunity to throw out personal attacks.

I agree.

I have no doubt that I've been guilty of inappropriately posting items on other people's threads myself on occasion.

Most likely earlier in my tenure on this board when occasionally over exuberance might have tended to interfere with common sense. ;)

It can happen from time to time, and I have seen it once in a while on my threads as well.

But, as a rule, it's fairly obvious that it's not intentionally meant to be annoying, and I just shrug it off.

As a matter of fact, I usually will consider lots of photographic responses on an "on the bench" thread a considerable help.

But when it's a whole series of photos of a model from various angles, it's a different story.

At that point it's clear that it's intended to be a "me too" situation, at which point, it becomes irritating and distasteful.

And then there's that.

Thanks to everyone! I got the message and will keep my photos in my own threads!

It wasn't at all my Intention to be rude or a 'me too' guy!

Hope you'll enjoy my posts anyway!

I am on several forums and this one is really the only one where posting an example of your work in the theme of a discussion on another Member's WIP thread seems to be taken as "look at me" and not "here is what I did as an example". Not sure if it is because this forum has so many long term members that have become sensitive to such things due to just interacting between themselves so long or what but it is obvious sometimes. I personally would love it if somebody jumped into my thread and said "that is OK but have you tried this" and showed a couple of pictures of what they meant. This action seems to be highly frowned upon here though. This is a forum where interaction, including sample pictures should be encouraged not Instagram or Facebook where "LOOK AT ME" is the rule. If anybody is just looking for attention and not interaction those are the places to be.

Now, that said, somebody jumping into in Under Glass thread with "That's nice but mine is better here look" would be incredibly offensive no matter how long they have been here.

I love looking at other peoples projects and sharing my own since nobody at home really cares and have found this forum responsive and interesting but even after all the things I have posted I still sometimes feel like and outsider or that I am considered the new guy just spamming with old build threads.

The problem is, is that's what it looks like when you post a half dozen photos of something that's either barely related, or completely different than the subject at hand on someone else's thread.

I've had situations on Facebook groups where I've posted progress pics of a '64 Pontiac Bonnevile, and somebody replies with pictures of their '55 Chevy.

Huh?

Yep! If it is in some way related to the conversation that is one thing if it is totally off the beaten track then another. Really no reason to post any pictures in somebody's finished project thread unless  asked for or there is direct and obvious link somehow.   It is the WIP threads where I feel it is more important to people being open to ideas and where posting a picture or two may be helpful in expressing an idea.

Oh, I agree with you......to a point.

But if I’m posting pictures of what I’m doing to a power steering pump on a ‘64 Bonneville in a WIP thread, I don’t want to see a half dozen pictures of your finished ‘64 Chevy pickup just because it’s “close” to the same color and it’s a ‘64.

I see that sort of thing relatively often on some forums.

Exactly. But there's a degree of nuance in your thinking that apparently is beyond the grasp of some.

OK guys, I got the message! I made a mistake, I appologized. Anything else I can do?

Maybe we can leave this behind us now and I may start over.

Any objections?

Nobody is picking on you in particular here. All is forgiven, and you're welcome to forget anything ever happened, as I'm sure we all have.

But intrusive "me too!!!" posts made by other people  (not you) are of ongoing concern to some of us.

The more recent posts in this thread have nothing whatsoever to do with you any more.

Peace.  :D

That's anyone's right not wanting to have anymore to do with me. Maybe it would then be best for me just to leave the forum so noone has to live in fear of hijacks as you wish to call it.

Your admin may then delete all my posts and nobody of the offended will be reminded of the stupid guy who dared to make a mistake in their forum of faultlessness!
