  1. Tom, thank you for the detailed background information!
  2. I found these coffee stirrers at Staples. They cost $ 1.99 for a 1000 sticks. I built several structures with it. They look good just as it is, or stained or painted.
  3. I have always been fascinated by Campers. Just the idea to have a small mobile home, and to be independend and travel where ever you want and always have a place to sleep. I have been building model kits for over 42 years, but always wondered why model car manufacturers did not make campers, caravans RV's etc. A while ago I found this awesome kit from AMT called " the open road camper". I bought it right away, but it was a stand alone kit without a car attached to it. I tried to cut up several model trucks to see if they would fit, but they were all too big. Recently I came across a bunch of photos of Campers with a regular passenger car in front of it. I even heard that Cadillac used to built them! I think I'm going to try my luck and saw a model car in half, to see if it would fit my open road camper. It's a whole new world for me, I have never really tried to cut kits in half or make serious modifications, like most of the expert builders on this forum. Wish me luck!
  4. Great job. Hope you'll get it ready by Christmas! That would make an awesome gift!
  5. Very nice detail on the seat and inside door! I am interested in the Alclad II process. Please keep us in the loop!
  6. These are two other campers that I am working on now. The scale is 1:18. The other trucks are 1:25. I painted the truck too. It's an inexpensive Road Tough Ford. It used to be white. I gave it a makeover. Inside and out. I would like to create a diorama with the 1:25 campers. Create my own little RV park. Does anybody know of cool RV park accessories?
  7. Thank you so much. I'm trying to think of more details to install, like a luggage rack, a ladder or maybe a surfboard on the roof. Or little curtains behind the windows. ideas are welcome!
  8. Thank you so much for your nice comments. Here are some more pictures:
  9. I am working on these Campers. I made them entirely from coffee stir sticks. I need to find, or make, all sorts of details, like outlets, vents, etc. It's fun to build and cost practically nothing.
  10. Thank you so much. It was my first attempt to spray paint a diecast model. It was a lot of fun finding a well used and played with model, and give it a second life. :-)
  11. A mock up of the project in progress. My first spray paint project on white metal. I am new at the whole spray paint thing. I was affraid to spray too much paint on it. It went well, exept for two small spots on the doors. I guess I can sand paper it lightly and spray just the doors again. When the paint is completely dry, I want to finish with clear gloss.
  12. Awesome job Maarten! How were you able to connect the two cars? Can you weld it together?
  13. I found this 1966 Mustang at a garage sale. It was made by Mira. A low end model car brand. It looked not so great in red, and the rear wheel was broken. The rear wheels do not have an axle, but the wheels are snapped onto a plastic pin. This pin was broken, and the previous owner had glued the wheel back on, but not exactly in place. The car was now wobbly and the rear wheels did not spin. I stripped the paint, used the spare wheel in the trunk to fix the broken wheel, drilled a slot for a real axle and painted it blue with a white top. All wheels are rolling again. I'm still working on it, but I'm having so much fun with it.
  14. Oh man! Very nice job on the truck bed. It looks so real.
  15. Hi Dan, yes your '72 Chevy looks like a much better fit for the camper. I've been looking around in my local hobby store but I could not find anything like it. I'll find one , someday.
  16. Oooo! Got to see the next pics! Promising!
  17. I cut the chassis in half and made it go under the camper. But I don't like the results. I'm not an expert builder. I think I will glue the Cameo chassis back together and finish that truck. I will come across a more suitable truck for the camper someday. It looks neat just by itself too.
  18. I'm in the middle of the built. It's not too bad. But I must say that I'm not an expert builder. It's coming along nicely where I'm concerned. I'm trying to make it fit to a camper. But I think it's not a good idea.
  19. Great job Jamie! I hope I get to see the finished project!
  20. Omg! Now I see what you did! I admire your courage! You cut it out with great precision! I'm going to follow this build! You are on to something great here! :-)
  21. You did a real nice job on the car in general, but especially on the truck bed. Did you use real wood? Or did you paint it so nicely to resemble real wood? Excelent job!
  22. I love the little mechanic dude. Those details bring any car picture to life. I like the color choice of your truck!
  23. Wow, nice job for a second built! I have this kit too, but have not started yet. Do you have pictures from the building process?
