    1958 Plymouth

Thanks for the tips! I haven't tried the painter's tape, but I will on the next one. My old eyes aren't what they used to be. Magnifiers are great!

Does it look like it? That's one area I've really tried hard to work on. But for the life of me, even with a sharp blade, it doesn't come out as smooth as I'd like. I'm open to suggestions!
  3. Thanks! I've got one eye on the carpet, and another on some styrene rod trying to duplicate them.

    1958 Plymouth

I've always wanted to build "Christine", but once I started on it I just wasn't feeling the red and white. So I chose blue and ivory, with some flat gray for the spear and seat inserts. I liked the kit, but had some fitment issues putting it on the rails. But for a shelf model I can live with it! Enjoy!
  5. Back in 1975 I originally built this 1958 Chevy Impala. Back then I thought it would be cool to have opening doors, steerable wheels, etc. Of course, it didn't really happen. The doors were awful and the paint was worse. I got glue on the windshield and on the body and pretty much gave up. Anybody else know that feeling? So last month I ran across it again and had 2 choices - (1) Keep it as is as a memory of my impatient youth or (2) rebuild it. I chose #2 and stripped it down. Originally it was blue, but I went with the red and white color scheme. I found pictures of interior colors. A bit strange to today's standards, but it worked for '58! I've still got some issues (like the carpet monster eating the rear taillight bezels) but it's moving along! Comments welcome!
  6. What is "instructables"?
  7. Has anyone who has built the AMT kit had problem attaching frame to floor pan? Up to this point it's been a breeze.
  8. Roof looks great on this one! Great job. Any other mods coming?
  9. Kind of makes me wonder if there was ever a convertible Chezoom!
  10. I'm sure there are much easier ways to do this, but when my pics are too large I'll load one into power point, then crop and reduce the size. Then "save as picture" and usually it gets it down to size. Love the color!
  11. Thanks Richard!
  12. I took your advice and pulled it apart to even things up. I think it made a difference. Also looks better with hubcaps and chromework on it now. I found a California plate Door handles installed Completed engine Thanks for looking!
  13. Rick: Great job! Like you, I've tried to make a "series" of Chevy's. The early 50's were difficult, but I did manage to get 53-68 done, and then a few other miscellaneous years. I like the way you personalized this. Keep up the good work!
  14. Great start! Looking sharp!
  15. Got some pictures of the Woody on its rolling stock. I'm a bit disappointed as it looks a little off. But I really don't want to pull it apart again. What do you guys think? Sorry for the fuzzy pictures!
  16. Thanks Teddy! I'm starting to get a bit nervous, coming down the home stretch. I've got it on all 4's now, and found some headlights that will be respectable. I'll try to get some pix tonight. -John
  17. Got some BMF done today. Fortunately, there's not much on this car. Not too sure what to do about headlights as they are missing as well. I think I'll raid the parts box and see what comes up.
  18. Lookin' good! Great job on the door lines. What did you use to make them deeper, and keep them clean at the same time?
  19. Thanks for the comments, guys! The engine is as finished as it's going to get, I think. I ended up with the exhaust in 4 pieces, just to get it to go back between the rails. I could kick myself for that one.
  20. I went ahead and painted the body. Krylon Hunter Green. I actually tried to use real "stain" for the panels, but I don't think I would recommend it. Just not worth it! The kit was also missing the decals, so I got some dial faces off of the inter-web. For some reason it was also missing the side and rear glass, which was pretty easy to make with some clear sheet. I'm thankful it wasn't the front! Til later
  21. I picked up this kit of Monogram's '48 Ford Woody at a swap meet some time ago. Although opened, the guy assured me all the parts were there. Wrong! Thanks to Barkster for the tires, and I'm trying to make do with everything else. I should have known when I saw "wood" contact paper in the box for the sides. Anyway, I'm loving the detail of this kit, and it's going together nicely. I did make the mistake of gluing the frame parts together before I painted. Found out later I had cut the exhaust up to make it fit between the rails. When will I learn? Wired the engine, thanks to a good wiring discussion in the Q & A section. It's not perfect, but I enjoyed the challenge More later!
  22. These kits must be rare. I don't recall ever seeing one. Who makes it? It's a great car, great lines. Good luck with your build!
  23. Beautiful job! Well done!
  24. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Glad to see you back on board!
  25. Hello, all. Just wanted to show you what I ended up with. I took one of the wires used to secure models to the base of some acrylic showcases, and pulled most of the hard wire out from its sheathing. Then I inserted plug wires into some holes I drilled. I painted some of the sheathing white to simulate the plugs. Thanks again for your help!
