No problem man, this is the best method I've found so far for painting, it takes a little practice to get it but it does definitely wok. -
Enamel cut with lacquer thinner

Cato I posted some pictures in the enamels win thread of colors mixed with clear. I used one part paint one part clear and one part thinner and got pretty good results. You can play around with different color base coats also, so far I've only done black, gold, and silver and those were lacquers. Try the metalizer or tamiya lacquers, I tried the testors lacquer for the gold but wasn't too crazy about it. -
The flakes are in the paint already, purple pearl, blue pearl, and stop light red metallic were the colors used. I'm going to try straight colors next that have no flakes to see how it looks as I'm pretty sure candy colors are supposed to be non metallic

Ok here's a little trick I came across on accident. I was mixing some paints and was curious to see if I could make transparent candy colors with enamels. I took 1 jar of color, 1 jar of clear, and 1 jar of laquer thinner and so fr pretty happy with the results The 55 is pearl blue over silver and I also did the purple and blue over black, the red is over silver and another one over gold.

Detail master carb linkage
Bluemiles22 replied to Bluemiles22's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok guys after hours of squinting and cursing, I think I finally got it. I used 8 gauge guitar string to mount the pieces and it doesn't look half bad. -

Thanks or the reply. I'm sure with a little patience ill get it but I was just curious to see the finished product on a model. -
I was just wondering does anyone have any success with this? I picked up a set and it seems insanely tedious to work with the tiny pieces. Any pictures of the finished product would help, also how to mount the pices to the carbs. Thanks

sanding, decals, clear and color sand?
Bluemiles22 replied to outragis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
No problem. The method I described works with enamels, if your painting with lacquer you can sand between coats after it flashes, and then polish the last coat. I would try and avoid putting lacquer clear over decals though, they may wrinkle. -
Ok thanks. I was just trying to avoid cutting the body if I didn't have to. So the full bodied car with the hemi would be a correct version?
-
Thanks for the info don. I've buffed the metalizer also but it didn't make a difference. I was just wondering if getting it smoother and brighter would bring a different result. Thanks again.

sanding, decals, clear and color sand?
Bluemiles22 replied to outragis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Before the clear wet sand everything out. I usually sand orange peel out with the courser grit, usually the 2400 first, and go all the way up to 12000. Then I clear and repeat the same steps. I would start with a higher grit than 1000 though. bad orange peel can be sanded out with 2400 easily. Wet sanding is a pain but the results of doing it this way are well worth it. As for the decals I personally don't clear over them but that's up to you, I you want to lay them down after you wet sand your color coat. The more polished the surface is under the decal the better. Hope this helps. -
I have the ks Pittman Willys kit and want to do it as the darker blue stone woods and Cook car. It looks as though the bottom few inches of the body is cut off on the photos of the real car and the grill is a little bit skinnier also. Has anyone done this modification to any kit? Also the kit comes with a blown hemi instead of the olds engine. Did that particular version of the car have the hemi at one point? Just trying to do the car justice and do it as accurately as possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

After the metalizer is sprayed what do you do to smooth it out? I tried wet sanding but it dulls it to a gray. Or should it just be left as is? I've had great results leaving it but there's always a very slight texture to it. Any suggestions?

That's one sweet looking Impala. Very nicely done.

Thanks so much for the compliments guys. Here a few shots of the interior.

I'm not a big fan of the paint either but the body was stripped 4 times already so I decided to just leave it.

This is the 69 nova from revell. This is built basically out of the box but with some simple engine detail, and some tire decals from slixx. Paint is testors enamel as well as the clear coat. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful build all the way around. That interior is something else with the piping around the seats, it looks phenomenal. Very inspiring work.
