Buying ugly buildups

I Love me some model car and truck kit junkyards/ junklots I seem to get more satisfaction out of knowing i saved something from a not so good/great state to something to is halfways decent and fits my visions of customization! great thread! -
from what I gather the u.s. airfix is just a throw off of the supposedly much better airfix (british company) supposedly does rather nice kits..... these mustang kits are circa early 80's copyrights on boxes say 80 and 81'

thats whats making me wonder I had a kit (lindberg) of the mustang cobra years ago as a kid, so thats what i was wondering about airfix i don't think they are and american company?? but yet these 16 or so kits that were put out were "u.s. airfix" like they had bought some us company's molds perhaps (lindberg) maybe then started to runoff the models as their own? whatever may have happened it must have been brief ( u.s. airfix)

its funny you posted that because i may have just mentioned it in my post above, if not above i mentioned it in another post elsewhere, I had a green and black moulded kit of the "turbo" mustang cobra from "lindberg" it was the same kit as the "airfix" kit so i'm going to assume lindberg had these molds first? then came along airfix? or is it vice versa the lindberg is the more recent versions? its hard to say, but i did have a "testors" camaro kit and it is the "cowboy camaro" pictured above..... testors also has at least 2-3 0ther kits like these snap kits like a firebird version something else too i think? sometimes you see the testors kits being sold in sets of 3's on flea bay

another member posted a build model of a type K trans am and it inspired me to make this post anyone can feel free to chime in what they know..... Here are some nifty subjects! the only thing i dislike of these kits are the pinewood derby style press on decals time and age do them no justtice as the only useable decal on my cobra mustang was the green cobra for the hood I barely got that on in one piece without disaster...... I know from kits i've had in the past "testors" had issued what is the "cowboy camaro" brown camaro pictured i remeber this simply for 2 reasons the wing on the back, and the fact that it was a snap oriented more curbside of a kit so does this mean testors has all of these kits? where is testors now for that matter i see a die cast on the shelves once in awile.... not much in plastics anyone feel free to chime in or add images if anyone has any of these what seem like rare? kits

my mustang airfix kits I have therws one other (red) i don't have

its kammback (chevy) type K (probly for kammback) is firebird aka pontiac

is that the u.s. airfix "snapfix" kits? i have 3 variations of the 81/ 82 foxbody cobra mustangs i am kitbashing together right now very cool kits don't see them often on e-bay interesting thing is is as a kid i had a "green" and black moulded plastic version with (Lindberg) on the box i've seen that mustang pop up periodically on e-bay not too often tho appears to be the same kit as the airfix ones...... Yet furthermore i want to say "testors" reissued a couple of these kits like the "cowboy camaro" and one of the trans ams were reissued under testors, same basic curbside like kits with minimal parts plastic tires and axles etc. i will try and get a pic of the bottom of my boxes to show all the 16 different models offered all probly rather rare?? who has the molds now?

great scratchbuilding! love me some scratch work! coming along nicely -
thats it scott the 2nd pic the fiberglass hardtop has slightly longer rear windows with the smooth sweep, and the liftgate has more of a slopeing angle , vs. closer to straight up and down of the regular scout II's so can the kit grille be turned into a 1980 style? the only other IH questions i promise the wheels on the truck we have look like turbine "mag" wheels, but i want to say they are actually steel? wheels with some sort of special cover thats rubbery? that looks like an aluminum mag wheel really bizzare you can grab hold of the spokes and wiggle them....... the grille too seems like its some sort of flexible plastic its been many years since i've seen the truck so my memory is a bit fuzzy....

Trading model collection for non model items
MsDano85gt replied to ridinframe's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I see nothing wrong with it just don't have regrets..... (I had to try to get back alot of my things I traded away here at mcm from flea bay) some of the stuff is about impossible!! but it was just cause I was a new Daddy to a beautiful baby girl and money was slim so had to do some tradeing / pm'ing to move some of the collection. Now that my daughter is 3 I have recouped many things I losttraded away then, but still having troubles finding some. Will do it again for baby girl # 2 due here in october if it get that way I also once traded die cast hot wheels cars a fair amount of them in a box for a new SONY Brand Blu Ray DVD player sky is the limits -
its revell, but its a die cast, closest to that in plastic i would have to say would be the "skips fiesta" drive in series moulded in black 55' chevy also very sweet kit i put a amt baldwin motion engine in mine
