Gasoline prices are a farce.... brought on by greedy speculators on wall street....as for not buying gas unfortunately it is a evil i have to use to go to work, but have used my motorcycle much more even in inclement weather and don't travel near as much or as far as i used to... i have effectively cut my fuel consumption by 2 thirds ... so if i could not have to buy gas i would... the alternative fuel vehicles don't help with anything either as most get a major markup premium or they are POS's... one other thing that's being discussed on capitol hill is that they want to raise the taxes on fuel because we are using less as a country and there losing tax revenue....also some states are experimenting with mileage tax based on how many miles you drive a year by attaching a permanent GPS unit to each car in that state and taxing you on how much you drive... as for kits... the price goes up the less I (we) buy... until they are priced out of existence....i understand profit. and i understand the licencing... I just don't agree with the greed of the Auto industry and tire manufacturers wanting so much for something someone else said ...FREE adverizing Enough ranting... sorry to hijack the post....All better now... gonna go eat some of my cookies now....peace all y'all -

What was the last carbureted production car?
Drgon63 replied to oldscool's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The last production car with a carb on it in n america was the subaru justy...built into the mid 90s.....in some other countries the carbs were used in production vechicles into the mid 2000s -

I appreciate the kind words.... the kit has its moments... the reissue is the same kit from 62 so be prepared... enjoy it... very rewarding when you get this one done... Glue still does weird things to the chrome....minimal glue only way to combat that....

Harry The Orange Crate kit is overall a very rewarding kit to build but does have its share of difficulties, for the average builder or someone just starting in the hobby the problems arise mostly from the kits 1962 origins....strait from the box the kit is a challenge to get correct... here are some of the points i am referring to -Chrome trees with excessive flash ( old tooling ) had a lot of flash if i remember correctly in the late 60s early 70s when i tried to build it as a kid -Many parts not having positive mounting points (Frustrating) -small parts on heavy mounting points on the trees ( very easy to damage parts even with a sprue cutter ) -heavy attachment points on visible areas of the chrome parts ( Strip, Cleanup and then re chrome or allclad would be recommended ) -Very Fragile parts (again with heavy attachment points ) -Old tooling trying to utilize as little space by molding parts to other parts such as parts using Chassis as a sprue -Vague instruction sheet not always clear where to place part. Overall it is a very satisfying build... I tried to build this kit as a kid and it found the wall because of some if not all of these points back then, Today however i have a lot more patience and tools available to build a replica of this very high profile, very cool and historic race/show car from the 60s... not impossible to build by no means.. but patience and perseverance to pay off... Does it deserve the #3 skill rating....each of us build to our abilities and this kit i do believe can test some peoples abilities and frustrate others... On a positive note ( yes not all bad...) -The chopped 32 Tudor body is awesome -The 417ci Oldsmobile engine with the front mounted Potvin supercharger and Hilborn Fuel injection is impressive and can be and probably will find its way into other projects -The wheels and tire will definitely find their way onto other projects *Just a Kool all around subject matter...* Tom

every time i look at this car all i can think about is the theme song to the Rockford files.....
-
This is the reissue......lives up to its level 3 ranking for sure...the flash on the chrome trees is rough at best... to do it 100% i would strip clean up the flash and re chrome or allclad.. but overall a very satisfying build despite its difficulties Tom

Yes the body can be removed or tilted up.... the pics just did not look right with it up.....not a whole bunch to see on the interior.....very bland inside....
-
What a piece of history..... what a bear of a kit.....Built Box Stock Think i did ok though....!

Nice.... i like the stance and the color combo...

Thanx guys for all the great comments and the constructive critisism... always appreciate when someone can give me advice and point out things i forgot or just did not get right.... the hose clamps are just small diameter wire wrapped around the hose... the hoses are large diameter wire that when i twist the hose clamp wire around it... it sorta digs into the wire coting of the large wire giving the illusion of the clamp actually holding the hose.... Tom
