Man its been a while since ive been on but i have a very good reason. I got lucky some how and bought myself a 1:1 1966 mustang coupe all original rust lol. She aint pretty but she is very fixable. Only problem is no title so she gets to spend a nice 3 months on my buddys tow yard so i can make it all legal and legit. OH and the best part is i got it for $50!!!!! Thank you crazy people and their loss of interest.

Engines for Hot Rod?
blueoval92 replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
i know a guy that my grandfather was best friends with back when they were in high school that took a old morris miner and crammed a chevy 283 into the engine bay designed for a 4 banger. still has the car to this day and is currently doing so "restoration" to it. -

thats it, i quit as a mechanic. i know when im beat. and that right there seals the coffin. -
somehow i managed to get a piece of tape in the opening where the paint jar meets the brush and it got sucked up and blocked the outlet, its all cleared now. wont be able to do any work tonight though. goin work on my buddy's 86 bronco.

i may not be the most experianced builder but i always prime any part before i paint it and i use airbrushes for all my painting. As far as engines go if i am painting the block and heads the same color i glue them 1st, other than that i have never had trouble glueing them together after i paint them . And for glue i use hobby town brand CA glue, the one i use the most sets in 15 sec. but the make some with more working time so you can set the piece just right. Hope this helps. somebody may post other than me but this is just my two cents on it.

well due to my airbrush clogging for a reason i have yet to find out, have it sitting in some solvent right now, i have been forced to stop for tonight. got a couple of body parts painted, engine block, heads, and intake painted. and several other small parts painted. gonna try and clean my airbrush in the morning and get to spraying some more parts. here where im at so far. some parts sitting in my drying oven. the creatix didnt do so bad. i mixed it a little thin at first and it ran slightly but i corrected, sanded the part, and resprayed with no problems. some body parts with color on them also got the frame glued to the bottom body pan and the rear axle assembly glued together.

sometime a thought is a powerful thing, lol. hardest part will be cutting the opening for the blower and air scoop, the hood is kind of small. im thinking i might try that cotton thread method for this.
-
got the parts fully primed and drying, sorta fixed my old "poor man" paint oven so i can cut the time down to 2-4 hours. will start glueing the body and frame together so i can start trying to fit the engine once it is painted. Pics to come, just not sure if they will be on tonight or not, i plan to work kind of late on this one.

steering is not a big thing for me but i do like the body of it so may use it on the 32 frame and chassis. -

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
blueoval92 replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
thats what i figured. i went ahead and tried it and man i love it. By the way, its not bad on bare skin, at least to me anyway, but im used to haveing brake parts cleaner and other automotive chemicals on my hands all the time so im use to thing like that. -
the third pic at start of thread is what we are talking about, thats the half gallon bottle i paid $3 for it. Chrome is all scrubber, rinsed, and stripped. Also got the main body parts primed and are about ready to start glueing, may leave them to dry a little more over night. also decided what colors to use. going with wimbledon white and a custom mixed red. little better shot of the red

whats nice is there is a dollar general 5 blocks from my house so it cost me nothing to go there and buy it. i plan to go buy about 5 more just so i can have a good stock of it.

got the chrome parts soaking. man that stuff works great. they have only been sitting for an hour or so and are almost completely stripped. I got the body parts primed and drying. Trying to decide right now what color to paint them.

While shopping around at hobby town today the owner informed me about an upcoming model show and contest they are gonna be having in store on Oct. 13. He was telling me that they will be a hobby town only kits catagory and only kits purchased from hobby town would be allowed to enter that category. So i decided to build my midget racer i got from there as a break from my current project. While taking it off the shelf i happened to look at my ford 427 parts pack engines i got in a little while ago and a crazy thought crossed my mind. parts to be stripped removed from tree. i was reading about this in a post and decided to try it. will start soaking the chrome parts and glueing the body together and try to prime it tonight. should be a fun, interesting build.

i bought some of this today to strip the chrome from an engine kit and was wondering how you guys mix it. do you go by the instructions on the bottle or do you just use it straight. -

thats very helpful, thank you. engine is not a big deal for me in the kit because i will be using a 425 nailhead with custom intake and exhaust. wheels are undecided but leaning more towards the baby moons. just love the look of them on old rods. Now my question is who make the tudor sedan as i have never seen a kit for that around here. -
best 5 window coupe?
blueoval92 replied to blueoval92's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
thats one that i am currently looking at buying. i have seen some that the rear side windows and almost the same length as the fronts, that style is more of what i am looking for. this is the style i want. i cant seem to find a 1:1 pic but i have seen them in person and they look amazing. -
I want to ask this question to those that have some experience building these cars. i would one day like to own a 1:1 version but for now i want to build a model of what i want the full size to look like. i want to know what kit has the best body, chassis, and interior overall. All i plan to do is open the doors, chop and drop the top, rake the windshield, and channel the body. all other mods are cosmetic. some help with this would be very great.
