1986 Chevy El Camino SS
ModelcarJR replied to ModelcarJR's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks, Steve, Carl, and Jeremy! I appreciate your comments! Rubbed out the body, repainted the hood, and got all the foil on today. I also repainted the bed cover. It doesn't fit very well so I may just leave it off. I'm going to finish this one up box stock. Thanks for looking! ? -

I painted the body and the rest of the parts today. I think the body came out well but the hood needs a little work in the glue seams for the hood scoop. I will try to sand it a bit and add another coat of paint to the hood. I don't know about the bed cover. I might try another color maybe gray or leave it off altogether. I think the interior will work. Not much there to work with. The body turned out to be a nice cinnamon color. Thanks for looking! ? -

Thanks, Jeremy and Anton! I appreciate your comments! I painted the body with Tamiya Aluminum today. This way I can tape off the top and bottom and paint the Dark Toreador Metallic over the silver which will provide a good base. I noticed in photos on the internet that the ones with the fascia weren't two-tone for the most part. Those were normally the ones with chrome front bumpers and regular grills. I don't know why the silver decals were include in the kit and there is no regular grill or chrome front bumper. Nonetheless, I am going with a two-tone. I am also playing with the colors in the interior. Three colors may be two many. I may paint the doors and the seats the same color. Thanks for looking! ? -

I have this old kit from a purchase of multiple kits in one lot for a good price. So I took a look at it and noticed that it had some sink marks. So since we had thunderstorms today, I thought it would keep me busy. I puttied up the sink marks on both sides of the front fenders. I also added the front fascia and worked on it to keep the seam but lessen its visibility. I also eliminated the mold line on top of the B pillars and other flash on the windows, wheel openings, etc. I looked at a number of them on the internet and decided that I will go with a two-tone with a silver top and below the trim line and my new favorite color Dark Toreador Metallic in the middle, hood, and bed. Right now, its taking a bath so maybe tomorrow I can get some primer on it. Oh, Yeah, and there's a Trail Bike too! Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Chuck, Steve, and Jeremy! I appreciate your comments! Good luck, Steve, this kit has lots of twists and turns!

Here's the other half of the 1925 Model T kit. I added the chrome headlight buckets due to an error I made with the headlight lenses in the kit. I noticed when I was taking pictures that the body was a little askew. So I took it apart and re-assembled. I think I got most of it but there must be some warpage in the fender unit. Here are the pics before and after the fix. This is why I take pictures and post them. I usually find my errors in photos! Thanks for looking! Before: After

I picked this AMT kit up a couple of weeks ago. It has two complete builds in it but it also has a lot of problems. So I quickly painted both build last week anticipating that it would be raining all weekend so I would have something to build. I used some partial cans of paint to get rid of them. My last one was Ebony and Ivory. This one is Lavender and Light Red Pearl. Although there were four regular skinny whitewall tires, the rear wheels were only made for slicks. So I had to find two wheel faces and two wheel backs that would fit a metal axle. I also re-engineered the steering wheel to take it off the floor and put it up under the dash by fashioning a loop for the bottom of the dash and hanging the steering column. I also bent a straight pin for a shifter as I didn't like the too tall shifter in the kit. That's about it other than getting rid of a lot of flash on the chrome pieces. I also altered the rear wheel fender hangers so that I could get them to mount closer to the tire. I haven't decided on whether to use the full moon wheel covers, baby moons or just hit the lug nuts with some chrome pen. Other than that its done! Thanks for looking! ?

This one is done! Dupli-Color Ebony Black and Pure White on the exterior. Gray interior with an antique gold insert on the dash that looks more like light yellow. But I thought it would give it a little pop! Built box stock and this Revell kit is top-notch in terms of assembly and parts. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments! David, I agree the photos that I looked at were more tan than the color I used. The top of the bottle of Antique Gold actually looks more tan but when it went on over the chrome, it turned out to be more yellow than tan. But as I mentioned, I actually thought it looked OK and gave it a little pop. So I left it. So now its finished! Comments welcome as always! Thanks for looking!

Thanks, Jeremy and Carl! I appreciate your comments! Its on wheels! I've also finished the front end and have only a few more pieces and decals and this one will be done. I've drilled four holes so far, two in the top for the red lights, one in the right front fender for the siren and one on the left for the mirror. I may drill one more for the spotlight but need to see whether I can drill a hole in the spotlight base to mount it. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl! Finished the interior. I did some detail by adding some foil. the instructions called for gold on the dash but I thought that would be a little gaudy so I used an acrylic antique gold that ended up a pale yellow but I kinda like it. So I left it and added it to the knob on the shifter and center of the steering wheel. Also added a turn signal indicator lever. Both the shifter and indicator lever are a little tight on the dash. Might bust some knuckles! Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl and Wes! I appreciate your comments! Chassis is finished, engine and radiator are in and the wheels are on. I found some extra blackwalls from the 48 Ford Convertible that I previously built so I didn't have to worry about wheels fitting and I can save the wide whites from this kit for a future build. I try to separate tires and wheels by kit and bag them so that I have a clue about what will work on future builds. Thanks for looking! ?

Finished the foil on the 48 and assembled the engine. I've also been busy painting the AMT Chopped 1925 T kit since it is supposed to rain this week. It has two models in it and they are supposed to be 1/25th scale but either the inflation has shrunk the size of the plastic or Henry Ford started awfully small. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks Carl, Steve and Bob! I appreciate your comments! I got it rubbed out today and the first piece of foil. Still have the hood to rub out and there are a couple of edges to touch-up around the windows but its coming along. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, David! I did do some cursory research and found a 1946 Ford that was all black and a 1949 Ford that was black and white like this one. No 48s. And even if I did, I wouldn't have decals for it and I can't really print them and I don't want to buy them. So this one will be either Chicago or non-descript. I have the paint finished. Two coats of each paint (Dupli-Color Black and White) and two coat of clear. I've also painted all the other parts, so now I can begin rubbing it out getting it foiled and go on from there. I think it will look pretty good once rubbed out and foiled. Thanks for looking! ?

I haven't built a police car before so I am going to build this one. Black and white exterior and gray interior. I primered today and also got the white on the mid-section of the body. Tomorrow, I'll feather out the edges, tape it off and paint the black. I had some Fabric Gray so I used it on the interior. Painting should be finished tomorrow and then the fun stuff begins. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your comments. Yes, Mike, it is the latest re-issue off the shelf at HL. $35 but with 40% off. I'm going to get another to correct some of the mistakes I made on this one; paint spit, bad foil, rear window trim piece, etc.

I saw this in "Too Old" Bob's year-end review and it reminded me that I had built this one some time ago. Unfortunately, I dropped it and it broke into pieces years ago. At that time, I just boxed it up and put in the closet. So to start this year I thought I would dig it out and re-furbish it. I washed it in the sink with Dawn and water, re-painted the white and aluminum that had yellowed, except for the moon tank that had a decal on it. Then I re-assembled it and here are the photos. Thanks for looking!
