  2. I'm going to try to paint and build this Drag racing kit. I am not a NHRA fan and know little about drag racing but the painting looks like a good challenge. I'll probably build it box stock. So far I've painted the white on the body using Krylon yesterday so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to paint the rest of it. It took me almost all day to tape the body off and I'll have to wait on the hood as it is in the oven cleaner at the moment. Here are a couple of photos and thanks for looking! ?
  3. Thanks, Wayne, Rusty and Peter! I appreciate your oomments! Yes, the hood matches as you can see in the following photos. In fact, I always paint the hood separately from the body. I have had too many incidents over the years painting a body with the hood on. If I try to remove it while the paint is still flashing, I either drop it, get a finger in the paint or drop it on the body which ruins two pieces. If I wait until it is completely dry, I risk paint sticking in the hood edges and chipping the hood edge as I remove the hood. And there is no good way to touch up a chip in the paint on the hood edge - it always looks bad. So I always count the number of passes of paint on the body and the hood and body and try to make sure they are equal. One pass back and forth on all unpainted surfaces per session. Generally two session like this with 10 minutes between sessions for paint and two for clear. Hood matches almost every time on pearls, metallics, and solid colors. I had a good session of foiling today. It was almost pleasant with no additional glue needed. Only think left are the letters on the hood which I'll either foil or use a chrome pen, but I'll wait until the end to do those letters. Here are some photos and thanks for looking! ?

  5. Thanks, Carl, Tom and David! I appreciate your comments! I think the air cleaner will fit because it is the one that came with the 57 Chrysler 300c Custom kit. Essentially the same kit except for the engine air cleaner and I think the grill. It didn't take too long to rub this one out and I have the first pieces of foil on this one. No glue required so far. The middle of the sheet of foil seems to have more glue on it. Thanks for looking! ?
  6. I am starting this AMT kit but it will be build a little bit custom. The engine will not have the dual air cleaners as I used them on a "Custom" version of this kit a couple of years ago. This one will have the standard 392 V-8 with the standard two carb air cleaner. I have a can of Tamiya Pearl Light Red that I think matches pretty well to a 1957 color Sunset Rose. Unfortunately, it wasn't used on a 300c as I can only fined photos of the New Yorker in that color. But, I am going to use it on this build anyway. The interiors were all light tan and black so that will be the interior colors. Here some photos of the painted body and parts of the interior.
  7. Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments! The antenna is a Jewelry Shoppe 2" head pin that I bought at Hobby Lobby. I cut it down a bit and used a injection thingy that I found on a part for the base. I cut it down a bit, sanded it flat, drilled a hole, and painted it. Thanks for looking! ?
  8. Thanks, Mike, Jeremy, and Mike! I appreciate your comments! Mike, the antenna was cut from a Jewelry Shoppe 2" head pin that I bought at Hobby Lobby. You can buy a small packet of them for about $2. The base is one of those injection thingys that are found on most parts trees. I cut it down, sanded it flat, drilled a small hole in the center, and painted it. Pretty simple.
  9. This 66 GTO is painted with Tamiya Black out of a can with a black and white (Krylon) interior. Engine is wired and plumbed. Hurst wheels added from GeeTO Tiger kit.
  10. Thanks, Rusty, David, David and Carl! I appreciate your comments! This one is done! I had a myriad of errors that caused me a lot of grief getting this one done but it is over! Here is a list of things that went wrong of my own doing: 1. I knocked off the upper radiator hose and right wing window while trying to mount the grill/bumper and hold it in place. 2. While trying to re-attach the upper radiator hose, I knocked the entire fan belt assembly off its two mounts. I had to remove the front sway bar to reattach the fan belt assembly and then replace the sway bar and finish the upper radiator hose. 3. While trying to clean the wing window after replacing it, I knocked ot out again. Then the left wing window fell out. I replaced both while working with a cocktail toothpick and a piece of handy tack though the opposite window opening. 4. While trying to attach the rear bumper one of the taillights fell out. I don't know which one and I didn't try to replace it. I don't think it will be missed. 5. The rear window also fell down and had to be re-glued with clear plastic cement. I think I need a new bottle of this stuff as it may have lost its grip. Anyway, I added the white side pinstripes and the Hurst wheel center decals along with other decals and this one is done!!!   11. I'm taking a little different approach with the taillights and Pontiac lettering on the rear. Instead of foiling everything, I have just sanded off the paint to expose the white plastic. I thought that it would expose more of the red taillights and considering the state of the BMF, it would be easier than foil. I may use a chrome pen on it because I can barely see the red taillights, but if so, I'll do it last. I also have the body mounted on the interior and frame so only a few more pieces of hardware and decals. First, I have to repair the damaged foil.   12. Thanks, David, Carl, Mike and Peter! I appreciate your comments! I finished the engine and chassis and have the engine installed in the chassis. I also have a set of the Hurst wheels from the GeeTO kit that I can use on this build. Windows and final assembly next! Thanks for looking! ?
  13. Thanks, Carl and Bill! I appreciate your comments! Finished the interior, and wired the engine block. I decided to paint the door sills black, which is not stock, and then trim with foil and chrome pen. But you couldn't see the trim and what could be seen was wrinkled so I just painted over it with a brush. I added the wood accents and painted the Pontiac door emblems with some red and black paint since I must have borrowed the decals in the kit for some other build. There are also some photos below of two previous builds, one in Testors Flame Red and white or Ivory interior and the GeeTO Tiger in Inca Gold and white. I am going to try to plumb the carbs like I did in the GeeTO Tiger on this one too. Thanks for looking!

  15. Thanks, Rusty, Greg, and David! Greg, the paint was shot from a Tamiya spray can as well as the clear. Two coats of Tamiya black and two coats of Krylon Clear Lacquer, about 10 minutes apart for all four coats on a low humidity, 70 degree day. I finished the foil and got lucky a bit as I didn't have to use the glue on all of the foil. The mid-part of this sheet of foil appears to have a little more glue on it than the first inch or so. Unfortunately, the chrome trim around the wheel openings still needed glue and the foil broke in a couple of instances. I also touched-up the paint on the fender edges and door lines with a brush. Here are a couple of shots before and after touch-up. Now I'll set it aside to dry and once the body has met the chassis and interior, I'll give the body a good coat and polish of car wax.   16. I painted this one last week before the rains came and rubbed it out yesterday. I still have to clean up the door lines and the few spots where paint was rubbed of will be foiled. Paint is Tamiya Black and the interior will be black and white. I have built a couple of these and one using Tim Boyd's very fine article in another magazine. I am not going to do all the red and chassis detailing on this one. I painted all the other parts today so I am ready to get going. Here are a few body pics. Thanks for looking! ?
  17. Thanks, All! I appreciate your very kind comments! Yes, the Bahama Blue Metallic is very close to Tamiya's Light Blue metallic. I can get 4 builds from their 8 oz. can while maybe 2 builds from a Tamiya's 3 oz. can for about $4 more.
  18. This bagged kit is done. The interior mirror and taillights were missing so I left the mirror out and substituted two pieces cut from a 2009 Dodge Challenger taillight. The paint is Dupli-Color Bahama Blue Metallic. Interior is black with wood accents. The interior bucket and chassis were pretty poor but overall it turned out OK. The Eliminator stripe is missing as it disintegrated into little pieces. Thanks for looking! ?
  19. Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! This one is finished. The bagged kit was missing the interior mirror and the taillights. I left the mirror out as I don't have any more from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland and none in the parts box. The taillights are cut from a spare in the 2009 Dodge Challenger kit. Other than that it is box stock. Turned out OK despite the weak interior bucket and chassis. I tried putting on the eliminator stripe but it disintegrated into little pieces. I then coated the black stripe with clear lacquer but the Eliminator lettering didn't register on the blue. I could buy some from Keith Marks but its not worth it. So its just a plain Cougar.   22. Thanks, Johnny! I appreciate it but I'll go with what I have. The only thing different are the lines in the lens. I'll just call them custom lenses. ? I decided to paint the interior black and left the dash and steering wheel metallic blue. The global blue kinda clashed with the metallic blue. Not much I could do to improve the interior. I added some brown paint for wood and then added chrome pen and called it good. The decal sheet did have gauges so that was nice for an AMT kit. Here are a few photos.

Since I already have cut up the Dodge taillight and since I don't plan on ever putting this one on a contest table, I am just going to go with what I have. Thanks! Rubbed out the body and finished the foil The foil was an arduous task since almost every piece required some Elmer's Glue to stay in place. The piece on the top of the rear window looks a little uneven because although I tried to sand it out, the paint bubbled a bit on that piece of trim. The only pieces that didn't require glue are the rocker chrome trim. I still need rub out the hood and brush-touch the top of the front fenders that lost a little paint. Thanks for looking!

  25. Thanks, Rusty! I appreciate your comment! Well, I finally found pieces that were missing - the taillights! I think the kit had two chrome taillights that had to be painted red but they are missing. I found a 2009 Dodge Challenger taillight in the parts box that I think will work. I'll just cut it, thin it down a bit and then paint the back black and it should work. I know it won't have the same lines, etc. but its all I need to finish and I can't leave out taillights. It was a beautiful day today so I got busy painting as soon as it warmed up a bit. Clear skies, no wind, and temperature about 70. Rainy, windy and cold tomorrow through the weekend, so no time to lose. I painted the body Dupli-Color Bahama Blue Metallic and it came out pretty well. The interior bucket is Krylon Global Blue which looks OK and there is not much I can do with this old bucket anyway. I painted all the other parts so I am set to build the rest of the weekend!
