  1. Sweet!! What paint/color is that??
  2. This is the first hotrod I built after getting back in the hobby...built in'98, I think. Engine from the Monogram '40 pickup, Pie Wagon headers, parts box wheels and tires out back. Slisked the firewalland blended it into the cowl. Not my best build, but I still dig it
  3. Cool build!!
  4. Nice build, Bill!!
  5. What about modifying a pair of old school 427 SOHC cam covers?
  6. Not sure about the "covers" on the engine, just seems like a shame to hide those 32vavle DOHC heads... The intake setup is way cool though!!
  7. Didn't Briggs Cunningham drive that Caddy at LeMans?
  8. Your single action airbrush is just fine - technique has more impact on a finish than the tools. Bob made a good point about cross contamination, I have a seperate #3 tip for my Paasche VL that only gets used for clear, even though I am pretty picky about cleaning my airbrush after each session.
  9. Good news and bad news using catylized urethanes. First the good: You can use your Paasche, and use a compressor, or an air tank or CO2 tank. It works fine over Tamiya lacquer (I've not used Testors lacquer), Duplicolor, Cobra Colors, PPG, ect. I've used it over decals with good results as well. Because it is catylized, it cure pretty quick, dries rock hard, and doesn't turn yellow. If you have it mixed and reduced correctly, you spray out a very nice, smooth finish right from the airbrush. The bad news: DO NOT spray this in your house unless you have some serious ventilation to get the fumes outdoors. I advise that you absolutely use a respirator that is rated for materials with VOC, and leave the sprayed body out in the garage untill it cures. It's a good idea to use proper protection for any paint, but the catylized paints are more harmful to your lungs when inhaled. Overall it's good stuff, and pretty easy to use. Just be sure to be safe, follow the mix ratios and directions provided by the manufacturer, and do a couple practice pieces to get the feel of the material. Regular box-store lacquer thinner will clean the airbrush, so save the PPG reducer for spraying. Good luck, and be sure to post your results! Brian
  10. Nice build!
  11. Nice paintwork Pat! Can't wait to see waht's next!
  12. Nice work - and it made it off the bench way before my GT did...LOL!!
  13. Bigger. The engine needs to be bigger!
  14. A Birdcage kit would be great! I think that small white car in the back is an Elva...
  15. Why not just clean the mold lines off, then polish the bare plastic? I did that to this 1:43 Monogram "Ultimates" 289 Cobra, and am quite pleased with the results. It's actually a little brighter than the pics show, but the camera wouldn't capture it.
  16. Nice build!
  17. Those wheels are two piece, plus the knock-off, and are right from the kit. I used different tires because the kit's "Dunlops" are a bit on the chunky side. When I first built the car, I used a set of Revell Goodyear big n littles, but just before these pics were taken, I swapped those for a set of tires from the recent Hasegawa Lamborghini Miura (which will be shod with the Goodyears). At any rate, it's nice to see this kit again, and it would be sweet to see all of Italeri's front engined Ferrari kits again, especially the 250 SWB!!
  18. Where'd those wheels come from?
  19. Very nice work!!
  20. Nice work on the site and the parts Jake!
  21. Thanx Bill! You bet I did - Tamiya tape is the best!
  22. This has to have been one of the most frustrating paint jobs so far, but after today's paint session, it's all good! First I had Duplicolor primer that wouldn't cure, landing it in the strip tank. Then I had an issue with paint clumping in the jar and spitting onto the surface, landing it in the strip tank yet again. Finally got Tamiya primer on it, followed by Tamiya TS-51 Racing Blue. Then the decals absolutely would not conform and lay down over the radiator ducts. After a couple failed attempts at masking the outer edges of the stripes, I hit upon an idea that worked, so today I decented some TS-26 Pure White and airbrushed the stripes. Still gotta put the rocker stripe decals on, clear it, then mask and spray all the black trim. Looks like I might actually finish one in '07...
  23. Here's one I built a few years back.
