Thanks for the replies guys. The odd thing is, the Miasto is cheaper. I may need to just get both. Maybe do one in the european green/brown camo and the other in the sand camo. Maybe I can modify one into a pickup or something.

Cool build. The whole idea just makes me chuckle. The Duke boys were a bit full of themselves with their driving skills. This kind of takes them down a notch. Something like 300+ Chargers were destroyed for the cause due to this show. http://en.wikipedia....The_General_Lee It was an entertaining show and I enjoyed it as a kid, but it wasn't worth the destruction of all those Chargers.

I'd love to see examples of what factory overspray looks like on original 1:1 cars. I've been looking for pictures and haven't found any examples other than some restorer's idea of what overspray should look like (which may or may not be accurate).

I'd like to get a 1/24 or 1/25 scale military Humvee for my collection. It seems the only options in these scales are the Revell Snap kit or the Maisto Diecast. I figure I could paint and weather either to make it look a bit better. Do any of you guys have either of these? I'm not sure which could be made to look better.

Oh, that's interesting. In the states I've lived in you could keep your current plates when you got a new car and sold the old one, or else you had to turn them in to the DMV.
-
Wouldn't it have been plausible that the plate was transferred from a previous car?

Buying with closed eyes

I've always wondered what happens if the seller cuts open the shrink wrap and then you decide you don't want it. I could imagine some sellers would get agitated about that. I don't put a premium on a shrink wrapped kit myself (in fact I would rather it wasn't), however I know that some buyers and sellers do. Very good advise. I've been burned too. One time I bought a new kit from a store, but when I broke the seal years later, it was missing a part and the manufacturer (Revell actually) said they could no longer provide the part because the kit was so old. -
What would mean more to you

I agree with everything Dan said here. I would never submit a model to a contest or magazine, but I do enjoy looking at the models of those who do. -
I build about one kit every two months. Some take a little longer. So maybe 4 - 6 a year. I don't try to rush or anything. I just build models to relax. If I don't feel like building for a few days or weeks, I do something else. I always come back to it eventually. I do try to stick with one kit until it's done, unless I reach a serious impasse that prevents me from continuing on a certain kit. Though sometimes I overlap the current kit with the next when waiting for paint to dry.

Buying with closed eyes

I bought an AMT 57 Chevy pickup on Ebay recently. Seller said it was complete except missing the wheels. When I got it, it was missing not only the wheels and tires, but all the glass and most of the chrome. But here's the weird thing, it included most of an AMT 50's Ford pickup kit. Looking through my parts bin, it actually gives me some interesting parts that I needed to bash up both a Ford and a Chevy. Part of me feels that I got a bunch of extra parts out of the deal, and part of me feels cheated and lied to. I never did leave any feedback at all. You also have to watch out for shrink wrapped kits on Ebay. I got one that was missing some parts. The seller said he never opened it and the manufacturer said it was too old to get replacement parts. I think it was re-shrink wrapped (not hard to do). -
Where can I get some tires around 33-35" scale (1/25) size? Unfortunately Alan Raab/Ma's Resin is not selling tires right now. It seems like all the model kits have 30" or smaller. The RC and toy stuff (like SoReal) is all 39" or larger. I'm working on a Jeep CJ-5 with a Spring Over Axle lift that really needs some 33s or 35s.

Nice! Great weathering. I'm so stealing ideas from this. -
The car will always be in shirt sleeve temperatures, never see rain, what possible reason could there be for a Ragtop Vette to have its top up in these conditions?
-
I don't know, I kinda like it. I see potential. I mean really, do you guys build kits exactly like the instructions say right out of the box? As far as the picture, a lot of the kits I built as a kid were nothing like the box art. It didn't dissuade me at all.

I know. I looked at my Monogram CJ-7 kit and saw the 304 in it. I could have sworn that had a six. And the old MPC CJ-5 has a four banger. Thanks for the heads up on the resin 4.2L. I'll look for that.

Collectible (and expen$ive) Corvette
dmk replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very nice. Convertables are sexy. While this may be "the most powerful and fastest Corvette convertible ever made", I'd rather have the Z06 Coupe though. Lighter, faster and probably handles better. -
Thanks Alan. I'll try to be patient. Good luck with your projects!

Oh man, I hate to hear that. You make some awesome looking 4x4 tires and you are probably the only place to get something like that. Any idea when you might be able to do a set of those unique mud tires again?
-
I'll buy one of these. I used to have a '74. I think the '74 and '75 look pretty much the same. Mine had a 258 six though. I need to get a Jeep CJ kit and swap engines.

Wow, talk about a land yacht. That one is a boulevard cabin cruiser.
