  3. Interesting stories Art. I love reading things like that. And nice models Gerald. Scott
  4. Beautiful. I love those old classics. Scott
  5. Very nice looking car. I'm surprised to hear they are still in business? Anybody know what's now being used as a power plant? Is it Subaru like several of the modren dune buggys out there? Scott
  6. Again what does this have to do with AMT's '60 Ford? Buy the Mercury kit, and start a thread about it. Scott
  7. Yea and are they both sister/look like cars because they have four wheels? Just because the boxes look somewhat alike (and I question that) doesn't mean that the contents are necessarily the same. True they are both put out by AMT and made of styrene plastic. But, so is just about everything put out under the AMT label. The '64 Mercury kit is an old kit tooled up in the 60's. The present '60 Starliner was kit tooled up in the 1990's. It's a much more detailed and modern kit design. The original 1960 Starliner kit tooled up back in 1959 is long gone. That's why the modern replacement, which is being reissued now, was made. From reading your comments here and in other threads here, I think you need to learn more about model cars and their history before making the comments you do. Or at least ask questions if you don't about something as a fact. Scott
  8. Every Monday night some friends and I get together for dinner. One of those friends, Dr. Bob, is a car guy. But, not a model building car guy. At the same time Bob will pickup different things at swap meetings that he knows I'd be interested in. At a swap meet recently he came across a vendor who had tied up bundles of magazines for $5.00 a bundle. One of the bundles had 34 Rod and Custom magazines dating from 1962 through 1965. He thought they might interest me because of the amount of model car content he knew was in those particular issues. Boy! Was he right about that. I found it especially ironic considering the discussions about those exact magazines on this thread. He says all 34 magazines were in very good shape. Only one has a ripped cover. There are no repeats. They do have a slightly musty smell. And I could have them for the $5.00 he paid for them. But, only after he's done reading them. Needless to say, I gave the $5.00 right there on the spot. As we were leaving, he indicated I could really pick them anytime, as he was already done looking at them. So sometime in the next couple of days, I'll have to stop by his house and pick them up. How cool is that? Again, especially the we've been having a discussion here about those exact magazines. Scott
  9. Happy to say, I won the auction on eBay last night for the book Here is Your Hobby, Car Customizing. Ex Los Angles County Library copy. So it has a little use on it. But, the photos the buyer showed, it didn't look to bad. And the price was right. I got in for about $30.00 with shipping. Looking forward to getting that, plus the new, old stock, copy of Here is Your Hobby, Model Car Building I purchased off of ABE Books late this last week. Eventually I'll have to hunt down a copy of Here is Your Hobby, Slot Car Racing. It's always fun to get pleasant parts of ones childhood back. Scott
  10. I'm waiting for ICM to do their Packard in either 1/25 or 1/24 scale. 1/35 is a little odd. I thought I heard rumors not that long ago, they were going to offer their Packard in a more common scale? Scott
  11. A classic. Even though it was published in the early 1960's. A fun look at the modeling scene at the time. Scott
  12. Beautiful build. I like the color combination. Much better than I would have expected. Scott
  13. Off in a little bit of a weird direction. How is Heller's 1/43 2CV? Scott
  14. How this "News or Reviews?" And are we going back to beat that dead horse some more? I don't necessarily disagree with the point. But, what's another thread about this going to prove? Scott
  15. Wow! And thank you. That is a very nice looking 2CV. I hope we can see your Revell kit someday too. Scott
  16. Post-1973. I like those first year GM Colonnade roof intermediates. Scott
  17. Thank you. But, instructions would be even better. Scott
  18. Christian, I'm impressed with the research and information you have on these cars. And thank you passing that info on to the rest of us. These cars and their variations have always been a little confusing to me. Mainly because of the lack of them in the United States. There are a few running on this side of the pond. But, like original (true) Minis, not enough. So your info is helpful. Now I'd like to see how the actual model kits look. To compare them. There is some written comparisons here. But, I'm more of a visual person. And the model built would help me even more in determining which one I'd like best. Scott
  19. Okay, I don't think it's as bad as everybody else here is saying. That said. I don't like it. I just was expecting much worst from the immediate comments I read here before clicking the link. At the same time, I love the Eye Bleach pictured above. There are many more abominations out their that I could use that for. And some are my own creatations! ? Scott
  20. Interesting. I love the chrome pens so far. I'll be interested in hearing more about their masking fluid as people start using it. This could potentially be another good tool if it works with hobby paints. Like Tamiya's spray lacquers. Scott
  21. Art, I'm sure your comments above are right on, for when the kit was new. But, how about today? The scale is still not my favorite. But, the subject is interesting enough that I would ad one to collection today. But, when this kit was first out I didn't have as much interest in as I have now. My tastes have changed. My budget has changed. I've grown up, a little. And that maybe true for the rest of the market today too. Do I think the Indy Turbine would be a big hit today? I doubt it. But, I do think there are a few of us who would go for one now. Scott
