Terrible painting results - body
unclescott58 replied to lilbuddy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yea, I'm talking Testor's canned spray paint. And since I hate airbrushes, I mainly use only lacquer in spray cans to paint my bodies. I prefer Tamiya. But, Testor's One Shot lacquer isn't too bad either. -
Yea, if I use Testor's enamel it is normally for things you mention. But, I specially wanted the color Plum Crazy. Testor has Plum Crazy in their Model Master line, in both enamel and lacquer. I made the mistake of buying the enamel. Thinking I was buying the lacquer. Bought it through the mail. Too much of a hassle to return it. Man! I hate Testor's enamel. I had to be Plum Crazy to even try it. Back to lacquer. Mainly Tamiya.

Terrible painting results - body

Stay away from Testor's enamel. Its nothing but junk. Switch to lacquer. Its more expensive. But, I ended up saving money in the long run. Not having to strip and repaint like I use to. People in our local model car club use giving me BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH about my bad paint jobs. Because of orange peel from enamel paint, they use to joke about nicknaming me Sunkist. Now they complain that they can't make fun of paint jobs, since switching over to lacquer. -
With modern door latches they are not any more of a problem than any other doors. Note Luc's comment above. As far as wearing dresses. I don't wear dresses yet I too find it easier getting in and out of a car with suicide doors rather than doors hinged at the front. Also there were horse drawn carriages with front hinged doors.

Revell '41/'43 Willys Pickup Gasser
unclescott58 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm thinking about picking up the latest issue of this kit. The one shown Hector's above post. Any thoughts other than what's already said here? -
Testor paint. Shooting Curly"s Gasser with Testor's Model Master Plum Crazy enamel paint. I should know better. Never use Testor's enamel for painting model car bodies! Even with a proper primer put down first. The dammed stuff still ran. So out comes the sand paper.

AMT 1929 Ford A Roadster "Mod Rod"
unclescott58 replied to Junkman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It's all good news. I'm excited. -
Very cool. I love vintage highway patrol cars.

Looks great. But, a "Gentleman's Muscle Car?" I don't think so. That a pure all out muscle car to me. A "Gentleman' Muscle Car" is more like a Buick Wildcat, Chrysler 300, or in the case of Plymouth, a Sport Fury. GTX may not be the pure muscle in the Road Runner/Super Bee vein. But, it always stacked up to things like the GTO, 442, Torino GT, etc. Now off my soapbox. You did a very good job on your build. You can be proud.

Very nice.

But, can you built both the stock version and the Mod Rod with fenders? In other words, will it still come with the stock fenders and the modified Ala-Kart fenders? I'm guessing it will. But, does anybody know for sure? -

Thanks for the link. The more I learn about this kit, the excited I get. Only one bit of confusion on this up coming release. Will I be able to build the Mod Rod version with full fenders. Or only the fenderless version shown in the box art? -
Boy, the closer one looks, that is really a very nice collection of cars. Definitely looks like there's some good stuff in there worth saving.

Disappointed! I missed two. Needed to read things more carefully. -

Try getting in or out of a car with suicide doors and you'll know right away. The "suicide" style of door is out of your way, especially for swinging in or out your legs and feet. It's really that simple. With good door latches, and closed properly they're really not a problem. But not latched properly. Oh, boy!

Shag carpet.

Wow! Again, not my taste. But, who an I to judge?

Hmmm. The above tells me never to share anything I do on line. A guy thinks something is cool. He should be criticized because you don't agree? I'm sure you've heard the old saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say. Say nothing at all." Now I've got mixed feelings about that saying. Sometimes a little constructive criticism can be very helpful. But somehow on the web people seem to think its okay to say anything they want. Good or bad. Civility goes out the window. Again I not saying I like the dashboard above. It's a bit too much for me. But what is wrong if he wants have a airplane like instrument panel in his car? What's wrong with wanting to pay airplane? How is that hurting me or anyone else ou there? I do goofy things all the time. Some of them pretty immature. But, as long as don't hurt myself or others, and take care of my adult responsibilities, who really gives a rat's hind end what others think? I'm having fun. And I'm sure that's what the guy who built that dashboard was doing.
