I'm getting the dreaded red X's...
-
That's just a great build, with as many stories as you can come up with for the characters. Nicely done.
-
This initially started out as a three-way build off between myself and a couple fellow builders. The first project turned in to an abomination to keep a long story short. So.... went to the LHS, bought another Deora, built it box stock, and took the remains, spare kit parts, & styrene, and converted the other Deora in to a camper. It's a shelf model to say the least, but I'm glad I was able to save the build and convert it in to something to look at anyway.

The more of these I see built, the more I need the kit. Great work and super build.

My concept Trans Am based on the Kevin Morgan design

I like it. Great conversion thus far. -
How about some Re-Introductions?

Mike Hoekstra I'm up here in Grand Forks, ND about 80 miles from the Canadian border. Been building models off/on since I was 6. I lost all of my kits and building stuff about 10 years ago when a huge spring river flood took out the city and my parent's basement. I got back into it again 3 years ago (WOW have things changed), sold my Playstation2 and all the games and invested in modeling after realizing how much I'd enjoyed it again. I build cars, and pickups 99.9% of the time, though I'll occasionally throw in a diorama or a sci-fi space ship for giggles now and again. I build mainly what I dub "attractive" for cars be it the attitude of the car, the body lines, or it's got a great decal/paint scheme (specifically race cars). I'm no professional builder, but it's a fantastic way for me to "decompress" after a long day and share something with others. On a more personal side, I'm 31, married to the most supportive, awesome, everything wife in the world, and have a 4 1/2 year old son (whom I'm trying to get in to building) and a 2 1/2 year old daughter (who's very interested but too young yet) and live in a house in a quiet part of down town GF. By day, I am a warehouse supervisor for a local (tri-state) tool/construction tool retail company. I also play bass in a local variety band on the weekends for some extra $$$$$ and fun money for buying models/supplies. I also collect 1/64 die-cast cars. Mainly 60's Camaros, Nissan Skylines, and new concept Camaro's. Here's my website - http://www.freewebs.com/mhoekstra Next... -
Great build Lyle. It looks tough as nails.

SUPERB color choice!
-
There's a craft glue that dries quickly and will not haze clear styrene. Does anyone know the name of it? Thank you for any help.
-
Looks superb Harry. I really like the color combo, and the overall look breathes class.

Real or Model...Take 2 FINISHED!!!
Mike replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'm rolling with model because there's no sag in the slicks from weight and the blower assembly up top. Then again, I could be wrong seeing's that Harry's a genius with Photoshop. -
SLUG A BUG!!! Sorry... couldn't help it. FANTASTIC and CLEAN builds.

Has anyone built a car from a TV show or movie? Let's see everyone's TV and movie car replicas! Here's my Cannonball Run ambulance complete with JJ and "Him" (Captain Chaos) characters. The build currently resides in Colorado on my friend's work desk as I built it as a gift (long story). The figures are from Scale Equipment and the movie backdrop was custom made on my computer. Anyway, here it is -

I love this era Ferrari. Great looking and clean build.

SICK! I love the button interior.

Is Wally Bouncing back.....
Mike replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was at my local Wally World last night and well.... things are pretty sparse. Organized, but much less stock, no sign of anything new coming, and the children's music CD rack has been moved in where part of the models used to sit. Not a good sign. Oh well. I'll support the LHS more now. Granted I'll probably pay 4-5 bucks more per kit, but Walmart never had Tamiya or much selection anyhow. They had a price point. -
You've got my vote. I love that generation Roadrunner. Very cool.
-
W0W! You hit one out of the ball park! Great build!

You can check with Scale Equipment Ltd. http://www.seltd.net/

I hear you on everything you're saying. I've never judged, but I do know my skills are inferior to other builders in one way or another. The flip side is, that I've had better builders give me good comments and ask "how'd you do that?". There's one individual up here that I've seen at a few contests. He's got some good builds, but does seem to have an ego of sorts as to his abilities by comparison to others. I can handle this with no problems, but at the last event he arrived and as I was admiring some builds, he looks at me and asks "Is this the junior section?" and referenced another local guy's builds that started to fill up the fourth table. I replied "No", and personally, I don't have time for this kind of BS, especially when the cars he referenced won the category and class at the end of it all. I can fully relate to your experience, as I worked at, and managed, a music store for 9 years selling guitars/amps/pro audio etc. One year, I was asked to help judge a Battle of the Bands that some local establishment was putting on. I said OK and did my judging thing etc. Other events through the night involving two of the other three judges caused problems. So, for the next two weeks, you know who had musicians coming in to his store complaining and crying with bruised egos and swearing that "we should've won" blah blah blah blah.... and being yelled at for what the other two judges were doing. GAH!!!

Wow. I can only hope that trend follows here in Grand Forks. Then again, my LHS has been better to me than the World O Wally as of late. -
Is the weather affecting your work?
Mike replied to Phil Patterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm fortunate enough to have an unfinished basement and my hobby area stays cool year round. Winter absolutely sucks as I can't keep it warm enough to lay down a decent paint job. It's usually high 50's to low 60's in the winter. I've got a space heater, but that only keeps my feet warm. -
