  1. I like them. They do have that retro 510 look. I've owned quite a couple different types of Datsun's (now Nissan) in my day. Great cars and trucks that would run forever. Too bad they used inferior steel. The bodies in this part of the country don't hold up.
  2. I found a few on feeBay. One seems original, one cast in rubber and one cast in resin. They might be what you are looking for. Put these item numbers in feeBay searchbox. 370941339995 390677070002 350932240643 Seems I remember that one mfg had them in either an early pro-stock or early funny car kit. I just can't remember which mfg or kit(s). I am not familiar with the "SandStinger" kit referenced in the first ad.
  3. Very good job so far and an excellent project. I am a fan of older Volvo's. I've owned a couple and my brother has had a few including an 1800ES. Too bad the only current/(easily obtained) kits available that I am aware of are the Tamiya 850's in a few versions.
  4. UPDATED on POST # 285 Please check it out
  5. Holy Cow!!! It is a very different vechicle. Personally I don't see how it can be street legal . Plate may be from something else unless there is some "special use" (parade etc) plate in that state. I seriously doubt that you could get a plate for it in Pa.
  6. I did not ask for a refund because the value went down. I asked for the refund because I was expecting them on Saturday the 30th which is the day I should have gotten them. Being they did not show up that day I had finally had enough. I was still unsure if I would ever see them. Going down in value is the reason, I believe, that I did not get a refund.
  7. I made my purchase from his website. He does have an eBay account (user name: bzzaw) but he accepts PayPal through his website too. I don't have a local hobby store and I work a lot. It's easier for me to shop online and it gets shipped to my door.
  8. Back in March of this year I was looking for a certain truck kit. I searched the web for a long time and finally found (I thought) what I was looking for at a decent price on the Hobbynuts website. He also had some kits that were very well priced compared to what they were selling for on eBay, which I use as a guide to check value. I purchased/bought/paid for 3 kits on March 9th. A few weeks went by and no kits so I emailed Ellis (the owner). I was told 2 of the kits were back-ordered including the one in particular that I wanted most. A few weeks later I contacted him again to check their status and was told they were still back-ordered. I waited, checking back every so often (usually by phone) only to be told that the kits were still back ordered. In late September I was finally told all the kits were available. He made an offer to include a 4th kit at a deeply discounted price but at the moment I could not take advantage of it. He said my kits would ship the next day, which would have been a Wednesday. I should have gotten them by Saturday. Saturday came, no kits. I waited til the following Tuesday and called him to ask for my money back. The line was busy for the 2 and a half hours I kept trying. I called again Wednesday and got his answering machine, so I left a message to NOT ship my kits but to refund my purchase. On October 4th I contacted him through one of his his eBay listings asking for my money back. He did respond to the eBay listing. He said that he had a death in the family so he did not get my emails or phone message when I asked for my money back and he said the person he had ship them sent them to the wrong address. He said he had just gotten them back and he would ship them out saying it was too late to issue a refund. If he had a death in the family I feel bad for him and I gave him my sympathy. What does not make sense to me though is if the person shipped my kits to the wrong address it seems kind of strange that he could get them back so fast.so he could ship them to me. The kits were at my door Monday, October 7th. If I was sent the wrong order, I wouldn't keep them but I doubt that I would be in a big rush to send them back. Also, the prices of all 3 these kits has dropped like a rock since March, they are now not worth what I paid for them. That is why I believe that I didn't get a refund. On the 7th I emailed him (again thru eBay) to let him know that the kits arrived and to let him know how dissatisfied I was. I told him that I would have appreciated if he would have offered me something worth around $20 as a bonus for waiting so long, which is about how much the 3 kits have devalued. I have waited a week to write this to see if I get a reply. He has not responded so I guess I won't be offered anything else. I was always polite when I talked to him and I think I had far and above shown patience. I am writing this to try to save other members here the grief I went through. Maybe you will have or have had a better purchase. If you do buy from him and pay with PayPal as I did, if you don't get your kits in a timely manner, ask PayPal to issue the refund. This has to be done with-in 45 days of purchase. I waited too long. I regret having made a purchase with him.
  9. As one of my top 5 movies, I recently finished reading Cormac McCarthy's "No Country for Old Men". The book could have been handed out to the actors as it was pretty much spot on to the movie. I am also reading Ron Smith's "Advanced Drawing of Scrolls" trying to learn how to draw them. I have an older post in the Off Topic Lounge section on this forum where I was looking for pre-drawn scrolls. We'll see if I can learn how to do them myself.
  10. Thank you again to both gentlemen that responded. I very much appreciate your time and help. I purchased the book (hasn't come yet) but I will probably be contacting Casey to delete this post in the not too distant future.
  11. My lame attempt.
  12. Ed, THANK YOU for the links!!! The book "Advanced Drawing of Scrolls: For Engraving Artists, Designers, Craftsmen by Ron Smith looks like it just might be the ticket. I will have to toss some stuff on feeBay to afford it but, maybe, even with my poor drawing skills I could learn to design my own. I had not come across this book in my google searches. Anyone have this book that they would be willing to let go of? Other suggestions are still welcome.
  13. Andrew, Thank you for taking the time, I appreciate the two links. I've taken quite a few designs from my web searches but there are far more I do not care for. I'd really like to find someone with loose pages, a book, DVD or let me know of a source where I can find some.
  14. I am looking for a good source of leaf scroll designs. I've searched the wwweb and can only find a picture here and there. I'd really like a book or DVD. I know gun engravers books show finished work, I need the black and white drawing(s). If anyone has one or can point me in the right direction to find them I'd very much appreciate it. I have stuff to trade or ??? The two pictures below illustrate what I am looking for, more detail to the leaves would be even better.
  15. Hey Joe, Glad to see another 'Burgh member here. I'm about 20 miles south.
  16. I really like the looks of this car. Excellent job with the roof.
  17. There is this guy on eBay: frontier_resin_design
  18. I am into quite a few things. Most anything to do with wheels and a motor, cars, motorcycles/trucks. I collect airbrushes. Buy and sell on feeBay. I got a high speed engraver that I hope to relearn (had one a while back) and I'd like to make some side cash with it. I am a hockey fan in general and a Penguins fan in particular (hence part of my signature) with a small collection of jerseys. I have a bad habit of getting into something and then going "Whole-Hog". I buy stuff and then when I need cash, well, there it goes. I have a newer job that takes a lot of my time so I haven't had a chance to do much besides work and spend money (yep, it's been an upside time right now. The down side time will follow).
  19. If your airbrush was a new kit it should have had a booklet in it showing how to practice with it. If you got the booklet and haven't done so yet, please read it. Another way to practice is to get one bottle of fabric paint like Createx. I would suggest black. Scrounge up an old T-shirt or two and practice on them. Stick a piece of cardboard inside the shirt and spray away. You have to be sure you clean the 'brush well if you plan to later spray solvent based materials but it is also a good way to learn how to take it apart and put it back together.
  20. I did not work for the railroad but I had a job that did do work for them. This railroad moved freight. Modlbldr is spot on. When you are first hired, and that would be as a Conductor, you will be sent for training. 6 weeks I believe. Once that is completed you will be assigned to the yard you will work out of. New hires are put with seasoned Conductors to learn the job and improve their skills up to the time they are tested. When you pass your test it will be time to "Mark Up". The place I worked at had a "regular" board and an "extra" board. Chances are you will be placed on the extra board. That means that you will be "on Call" and can get called at ANY time. I am fairly certain you can be no longer than 1 hour away but it may be an hour and a half max. Kind of hard to make any plans. I had a Conductor once tell me he grossed $1800 one week (why he felt the need to tell me is beyond me, I was only earning a small portion of that). Sounds like great pay, right? He was on the road for the whole week. I do not know if the RR you are looking at moves freight or passengers, my guess is freight as that is typical of the NS and CSX in this area. BTW: they are 2 separate railroads, Conrail was merged into NS but CSX is it's own company. In this area they are separated on either side of the river(s). One thing to bear in mind, at least in this area. With the new governmant regulations regarding the use of coal many mines are shutting down in this area as it would cost them too much to become "compliant". This has REALLY hurt the industry in this area. Probably 90 percent of the freight moved in this area was coal. Hence, the company has/had way more workers than work. I do not work there now but I have since talked to RR friends that I made who have told me. If your area is the same you may not get many hours. Just something to bear in mind. While I was there they seemed to be doing a lot of "Spying", supervisors looking for people not doing their job SAFELY so they can "let them go". You may want to find out what materials the railroad you plan to work at moves. If you know anyone that works there ask them for a heads up. It can be a rewarding ($) career but as mentioned, you will need to sacrifice most of your life. SAFETY is key. I was told you stand a better chance to get hired if you mention the word a lot in the interview process. Make sure you follow through if you get the job. I hope this helps. Good Luck!!!
  21. My DeathProof Nova. Model and reference pics.
  22. I used to belong to a club and would buy stuff I liked. Had a big collection that I also sold. I quit building for about 15 years but in the 6 or 7 years since I started back I've accumulated quite a few. I've got about 10 that I started and haven't finished (yet). I've bought some as an investment but I am TRYING to just get stuff I will build. I might need to spend less time looking at this site and get back to building. I paint outside and it may, FINALLY, be getting decent enough to paint soon.
  23. My brother and I built kits back in the early to mid '60s. ALL were glue bombs as the only glue available was the tube stuff. Too hard for a kid to use "just a little", at least for me. The kit that got me back into modeling was a Monogram Monster truck kit. I was in my late twenty's (if I remember right, I'm old too). I loved monster trucks and I happened to find a kit that I thought I could build. I was by no means a great modeller but I did make my own interior and I gave it movable 4 wheel steering. It wasn't a bad build but I have gotten somewhat better. From there I found and joined model club (hey, there are other people that build these). I had a big collection but had to sell it off cause I had lost my job. I took another 15 years off and got back into it, again, close to 10 years ago. I have a few built and have quite a few started plus a small collection. It is a hobby that can be very fun and satisfying.
  24. Tommy, Here are a couple pics of the kit I am talking about. Monogram kit # 2227. The dollar bill is 6 inches long. Should be around 15cm??? I have since noticed that you are in Norway. The kit may be a bit pricey there.
