  1. Another excellent looking build Ray!
  2. Wish I had your body work talent, very nice work!
  3. That is just a slight bit too short, I have a flat non SS hood that I suppose my only option is to try making a cowl and graft it on. That's not too big of a deal except the part where I suck at body work . I guess I have some quality time to spend with some styrene stock and filler putty then..
  4. Thank you Al! You have been working on a chevy? Is everything alright with you? you know those chevelle's aren't a Chrysler product! Kidding aside, that's interesting your friend had that Chevelle, my dad had nearly the same car back when he was a kid in the 80's, it was also a gold 1970 SS with a black vinyl top/interior and ls6 454. He actually bought me another kit to make a replica for him. About the cage, I have built many styrene cages and I have somewhat mastered a simple 10 point. I had this material laying around and I decided to try challenging myself by using a new material. I found that it is much easier to manipulate than styrene. I was able to execute bends and angles much more precisely than I have with styrene. I plan on not painting it and leaving it as raw aluminum to represent chromoly. As far as I know it would be accurate in 1:1. let me know if I'm wrong Thank you Ira!, I appreciate it especially coming from such a talented builder!
  5. Walter, The bars are fish mouthed and will be super glued, in this post I'll include a picture of the joint, the camera makes it look much worse but it looks close for such a small and precise joint to get perfect. Niko, I think they're a slight bit small for such a large car, when I figure out how to lower it I think it will look a little better. I might be able to find something better suited for this big of a car somewhere Carl, thank you! I have come up with a plan for this thing, Jeff Lutz has the "Evil Twin" 57's, I have a idea of the "Evil Twin" 1970 chevelles. Some might remember the street car I built recently and I think an all out drag car twin would be pretty neat. I'll include some pictures of the other car. I did some more work on the cage, it's taken a lot of trial and error to get it fit up tight in the body but its coming along nicely. Let me know what's on your mind, good or bad I want to hear! The first picture is the other car, I think painting this car to look identical would look sweet
  6. I've been messing around with this for a little while an thought I'd post. It's the usual Revell kit with some kitbashed parts. I'm in the process of building a cage with K&S aluminum tubing right now. Here's some pictures, more to come tomorrow! Also, If anybody knows of a caster who sells a good quality cowl hood let me know, I can't stand this hood. Let me know what you think, all opinions and suggestions are welcome!
  7. I'm not sure what's humorous about my post, but the smallblock seems to be working just fine.
  8. Very Very neat! excellent job scratch building this junior! By no means do I mean to hijack your post, but I used to race a junior just two years ago, they're a great learning experience and great for learning to race before stepping up to a big car!
  9. I do believe that Larry Larson now holds the title of fastest street legal vehicle in the world with his S10? someone correct me if I'm mistaken
  10. Since you're building a replica, have you got any idea where to find the Heartbeat of America valve covers?
  11. Excellent and very methodical approach, its looking very good!
  12. Yes, it will be getting a set of Heartbeat of America polished aluminum valve covers when it goes in, IMO these Dart ones are real ugly
  13. Just a Dart Little M 427 small block, I sold my work in progress daily driver which together with working I was able to pick it up pretty cheaply. It's 13:1, has Dart Pro 1 230cc Platinum aluminum heads, 4130 Eagle forged crank and H beam rods, and JE pistons to make it brief, it makes about 700 horse on a mild tune with a lot more left in it. That, and the new SpecRite 5500 stall torque converter should make my car a complete animal! The first upgrade I'll end up making is a cam swap, it has a really small 660 lift solid roller in it and it would really benefit from a 750+ solid roller. That all takes money that I don't quite have. Besides, it's making more than enough power for my racing in high school. If I ever get some free time away from school, and life itself, then I can get some builds back going here
  14. I bought a couple intake manifolds and a couple velocity stacks today, one is a small block chevy weiand team G, the black painted one is a weiand big block chevy team G, and the other is a polished weiand small block chevy 6/871 blower intake. The velocity stacks are new old stock EC's. Bought the intakes for $100 a piece and both velocity stacks for $40
  15. The port spacing is wrong for a small block, correct for a big block
  16. looking good, the exhaust isn't accurate for a small block though
  17. Absolutely sinister! what is this stuff you used to tint the headlight lenses?
  18. Niko, it is quite hard having to wait, as much as I want to run in our tracks high school class, if I were to transfer over to the 'Hot Rod' class I'd be racing adults running in cars ranging from low 9's to 12's so it would be much closer racing. It's just up in the air right now, who knows what ill end up doing, but I have all off season to figure It out Robert, You couldn't be more right, most of my peers expect things to be handed to them, kids are jealous of my car and think its not fair I have something they don't. The reality of it is that they just expect their parents to buy them a cool car, pay for their gas, their insurance, and the usual maintenance without them having to lift a finger, I bought my race car and now I've sold the little chevy luv I had to work towards getting a 3/4 ton truck and flatbed trailer so I can tow my car to and from the track without my dad having to drive his truck and use his trailer which cost money. Kids these days are best described as lazy. Jeff, thank you, if I continue to race in the high school class, it is something I'll really have to get used to, the fastest car out there besides me is still only running 16's. I have a buyer on the line of my other vega panel I am forced to sell as I'm in dire need of some funds, if It does sell for what I'm asking for ($4500), then that should put me closer to buying a 427 small block that a friend may let go to me pretty cheaply. If I were to get it, it would get me running 9.90's or so. I would no longer be able to run in high school as I cant legally run faster than 11.00, and I'd have to get my NHRA license to run faster than 10.00. that being said, I may set a throttle stop where it would only receive about 3/4 throttle and still run low 10's.
  19. Thank you Dale! Dave, My dad has been supporting me and my racing addiction since I started racing outlaw go karts at age 4, it's all his fault! Thank you Carl, I am overjoyed with accomplishment Thank you William! Derrick, I hope this is just the start of my success Thank you Fabrizio Blair, they sound like they were pretty wicked cars, especially to be running 9's on pump gas! Much appreciated Mike, not only can I thank him for supporting my racing, I really have to give him the credit for my work ethic and drive! Vince, I think my dad is extremely proud of me, I've worked very hard to try to do so
  20. Looks great! how is this kit, any issues?
  21. Beautiful job!
  22. Everybody who has commented, Thank you! I cannot describe how proud of my self I am in words, to look back and see how I saved every dime and worked my a$$ off to buy the car and to build the engine and such to have what I have is just amazing. Your normal 15 year old can't say that he has a race car that he put together buying everything himself and did all the work on running low 11's in the 1/4 mile. I can say that, and I know how hard you have to work, and I know what its like to work towards something you want and not just get it handed to you. All in all, I'm happy with what I've accomplished
