Model Master Lacquer Primer Good/Bad/Ugly?
cobramike replied to Speedfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I went to the local HL today to get some Tamiya Primer, they had one can of fine light. I liked to had a freaking heart attack, they wanted $10.99 for that can. Needless to say, I left there thinking that I need to find a different place to buy at. Checked Amazon when I got home and they want $11.59. What the hell has gone wrong in this world that a hobbyist has to pay through the nose for that stuff? Has the Saudi's also got control of the market for hobby primer? Looks like I'm going to get some cheap stuff from my ACE hardware store. Someone that cannot be controlled by the Chinese, and Saudi's! It's a sad day indeed! -
very nice, looks like I need to get busy and start one of my own soon

Rich; you did a fantastic job on this model. Man I love the colors, and the period correct dressup equipment is outstanding! -
Those tail lights are fantastic. Beautiful car. I was searching to give me some ideas for a '57 I'm about to start, and found this, good way to get ideas for my own build.

If this is what you make being rusty, I would like to see the ones you make when your not rusty. This model is beautiful!

should have filed a claim on the parking lot accident, the nerve of someone knocking off your door handle like that!

Love this car. My uncle had one almost exactly the same but all stock back in 1962. Loved riding in it, and surely would enjoy riding in this one also -
WOW, that is one beautiful build!

problems with old decals
cobramike replied to cobramike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks a ton guys, lots of help. I never thought of clearing the decal sheet. I did it to this one with what was left and it has been the best suggestion ever! Soaking them in lukewarm water at or near room temps? Who would ever have thought, I just would run the water till it was cold (here in Denver this time of year the water is still at around 46 degrees), now I will use it at room temp. Thanks again for your help! -
I need help...news flash? well most everyone knows that already, I have a 69 Shelby gt500 1/25 I am attempting to use the decals. However the first part I cut and put in water literally rolled into a ball and I never could get it to flatten out. Thankfully there is 2 other sets of stripes and I don't want to ruin them also. How do I keep the rest of the decal sheet from turning into little balls of trash? Is there some secret to basically bringing them back from the dead? I have searched this and 2 other forums to try to find an answer to no avail. Surely there must be a way to get them applied without turning to S--T. Any ideas are welcomed, please either email me or PM me if you have the answer to my dilemma ! Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks guys. When I did the paint scheme I was not sure if it would work together...surprised the heck out of me! I love 2 tone paint jobs!

LOL, thanks Dale, hat is one of the best comments I could ever hope for. Like you, with the molding in Red it was straight up ugly. I tried to go all white...didn't seem right, then went to forest green...that was even worse. Then I saw a 56 Bird on line (real one) done up in beautiful Black, I knew that was what I wanted all along. I think the chrome bits make it look like being in a tuxedo on a Sat. night. Just enough to not spoil it but to class it up like old Birds should be!

Man I love your car. Plain and simple as that!

Thanks, it is a Monogram 1988 kit. It kind of was a PIA to build. The wheels didn't fit, so I used some from a 97' Cobra kit, the tires were hard as bullets, same 97' kit tires. The rear tire shell was not round, the hubcap wouldn't fit, had to fix that! The tail pipes were worthless and fugly, so there isn't any exhaust on it yet. I am working on making the exhaust look like "Lake Pipes"! The hinge on the hood never did work right, so had to do allot of modding to get that to work. ARRRGGGHHH, and the paint I did looked like S--T, so repainted it 3 times before going to black on black. There are no decals at all so the name plates and other body features are all non existent. I hope that your AMT was allot better build than this was.

Man, I love this car! My brother had a '66 GT w/390 4bbl. It was crazy fast with huge torque #'s. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH GTO's still would beat him like a drum though! Great car for fishing for chicks on Friday and Saturday nights! This car is beautifully finished. I need to build one asap!
