  1. Finished this about 3 months ago, fun build, except for the front suspension.
  2. this is the T-Bird I started about a month ago. I tried to make it solid red...didn't like that, tried solid White, once again stripped it all off, then I saw a '56 Bird on a web page that was beautiful Black and so went with that. This was NOT one of my fav builds. Too many parts needed to be "fixed" because allot of them just would not fit. The flash on the parts was excessive, but probably for it's day maybe not. Hope you all like it.
  3. Bruce, this is what I did to my 55 f100, check it out. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72451&hl=%2B1955+%2Bf100
  4. I love my Tamiya sprue cutter. Why I ever tried cutting the parts off with an x-acto is beyond me. Trimming, yes for xacto's though.
  5. Thanks gents! I didn't think there would be a problem, but thought I would ask because I knew there was folks on here that could answer. Thanks again I am also considering chopping the top, has anyone done that to this? It looks pretty straight forward. I can't believe how thin the plastic is, almost to the point of being flimsy.
  6. I have just opened this box and the parts are all molded in grey. My question is has anyone else built this model? If so, will the grey bleed thru primer and paint? I have no intention of using this color...UGH! So if anyone has any thoughts about this let me know. Thanks
  7. Very nice build. Attention to detail is second to none.
  8. Very nice representation of the real car. Is that the "light Blue" Testor's #1210 or 1208 ? That is real close to my '98 Cobra that is painted "Bright Atlantic Blue". I love the way you did this car.
  9. I have an old tackle box that I stopped using a few years back because it is way to big for what I needed, so yesterday I got it out and put almost all of my building stuff in it. It has 3 fold out shelves that have plastic separators I can move as needed. The only thing that won't fit is the cans of paint like Testors. So far it's good, but always looking for better ways to contain my madness!
  10. That '66 is coming together nicely. I like the idea of some Scotch prior to starting, during, after, along with a nice fat cigar. I work in my work shed whenever I am working on models.
  11. Lo and behold there's that jiggle stick...no automatic's for real men!
  12. lol, when I was "much younger" the small windows just behind the windshield were called "NOSE DRAFT WINDOWS". So I grew up calling those that. The looked like noses, and you could direct air in all different directions including your nose!
  13. Take your time friend, did you see the f100 I finished? It's in the "under glass" section. I like the paint, I had to strip mine 2 times before I got what I wanted. I think yours is looking very nice. Good work for being out of the hobby for a time. Same as myself, I had not built a model in close to 40 years! Things sure have changed in the craft!
  14. Here is a link to what I was trying to copy.. .http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://forums.themustangsource.com/attachments/f815/90910d1311548731-my-lava-red-2012-gt-ford-whq-img_4494_a.jpg&imgrefurl=http://forums.themustangsource.com/f815/my-lava-red-2012-gt-ford-whq-497933/&h=521&w=800&sz=366&tbnid=RmcXiJu7G4LQ1M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=138&zoom=1&usg=__qt7v9aHlkRoWAU8p7ZZEUl5Jfm0=&docid=KWLJJ0aWFk-xnM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=nAdbUZ_OOM6DrQHmn4D4BA&sqi=2&ved=0CD8Q9QEwAQ&dur=7923 http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.mustangheaven.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/LavaRed2012Mustang_c-430x191.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mustangheaven.com/2011/lava-red-metallic-2012-mustang-photos/&h=191&w=430&sz=13&tbnid=r91C8Gn5NrSzYM:&tbnh=55&tbnw=123&zoom=1&usg=__trXT-Vrdzpf7l0Zpw0FB7npljBI=&docid=qRMAbZYAraOT3M&hl=en&sa=X&ei=nAdbUZ_OOM6DrQHmn4D4BA&sqi=2&ved=0CEIQ9QEwAg&dur=1702
  15. LOL, I was wondering if anyone would catch that it is more of a Mystichrome. When I mixed the paint, I used Stoplight red mixed with the black, when I was mixing it I was using a paint brush to so sampling and the color in small 2x2 squares over white paper was totally spot on for Lava Red! My wife agreed, my nephew came by and he agreed, as did I. That was dried tests. While I was airbrushing the paint on the car it looked like I had nailed the color spot on. Then it dried...Shaded into a very dark Brown, was nice but not what I was after. That's when I decided to shoot some Pearl on it. I couldn't believe how suddenly the color changed and the paint now popped. I was ecstatic to see how it changed everything! I have been wishing that the kit manufacturer's would come out with a '12 Mustang GT as I still want to do a Lava Red.
  16. Thanks a ton for this info. I will be heading to the store to get some of that Future product. We have hardwood floors in all but 1 bedroom, is it a good product to use on them also? About the primer, I am now not going to use it after your comment that it might bring red pigments to the surface. I am thinking of painting the car Wimbledon White with some, notice I said some Pearl powder in it. I have never painted a car white before, thinking it would be a good choice for this bird.
  17. I agree that the 1/24 scale is big. I got the kit from my sister, and it was given to her along with 10 other's when a old friend of hers had to be moved to a nursing home, and she stored the kits in her basement for well over 20 years or so. She thinks she has more and will look for them. One faux pas was the color of the dash.....should be a darker green/turquoise, but I was using pics from an actual car at the time and that's the color its dash was. Yes, I do remember that the dash was a couple of shades darker with this color, but I think yours is perfect anyway. Great car! As for the Conti kit, I used to love those when I was a kid, they were also on numerous other cars of the time. They seemed to have made the cars much more "sleek"?
  18. Wow, learn new ideas on a daily basis on this forum! Thanks to all!
  19. Yea, those darn runs...The paint that is under the pearl came out what I would call all but perfect, then I decided to add pearl powder to some clear. The way it was reflecting light and color got me way too excited leading to shooting the pearl way to fast, meaning to much volume. By the time I had cleaned the airbrush and cleaned up my other messes, I finally got a good look at the paint and was not happy at all with it. I wet sanded and removed some of the problem areas, but I was getting into the pearl and in some areas I was fearful that I was going to have to strip it all off and start over...maybe I should have. Not real excited about the color, the base color was an attempt at making my own Ford color used on the 2012 Mustang GT called "Lava Red", which came out a nice dark reddish brown color, not what I was after. I decided to make it pop with some Pearl powder and that's where it is currently. Should I start over?
  20. I finished painting my GT yesterday, added the decals today. All comments welcome, good or bad!
  21. Ok Anne and the rest of you folks, I am going to do it up total stock...except for that horrible red plastic, I'' paint it to suit me!
  22. I am loving this build, I do love the old 427 Cammer motors, I think it sits in there like it was made for it! I see what I'm buying next...57 Ford!
  23. That really is bad for the company to not have better QC! Hang in there, it will turn out good!
  24. I am doing it as a custom. Takes allot of sanding. I am putting in a '97 Mustang Cobra engine, wanted to make it blown, but can't find a correct blower. Took some cutting to get that 4 cam motor squeezed into it. I'll post some pics later.
