Old Nasty

BEAUTIFUL!!! Takes me back to the old days of classic muscle cars.

Just finished this one. Don't have any pics, I gifted it to a friend. The only real problem I had was the inner fender panels & radiator were kind of fiddly to get in during final assembly. If you don't get them in the right position, the hood doesn't work properly. Other than that, it's a pretty decent kit.

When I was about 15 years old my dad had a '64 Pontiac Catalina with the 389 & a 4 barrel. He bought it for the styling without knowing he had a bonafide muscle car in the garage. Anyway, my buddy Billie Rickart came over one day when my folks were gone (in moms car) & showed me how to hotwire the beast. We proceeded to do numerous neutral drops in the driveway sending up a huge cloud of tire smoke that covered the neighborhood. Moments after we put it back in the garage the parents returned home. When my dad asked about all the lingering smoke we told him some kid down the street had done a burnout in front of the house. This explanation lasted about 2 minutes before he noticed the huge black marks running the length of the driveway. Needless to say, Billie was sent on his way & I was escorted by my collar to the basement for a meeting with my dads belt. It was still worth it.

If anyone remembers a show called "Ironside" with Raymond Burr, he was in a wheelchair & had an old '40's paddy wagon set up for him to travel around in. I don't recall the make but it was pretty cool. If we're talking movie cars; "Jeepers Creepers" '41 (?) chevy cabover straight truck or "The Car" custom Lincoln Continental by Barris.

Where are the wands for spraying crops?

Saw him once at Road America racing a Corvette. I believe it was in the late '60's.

A friend of mine has a '48 Diamond Reo (no fenders) that looks an awful lot like the cab on your truck. It's sitting on an S10 chassis with an old Willy's bed. Pretty nice ride.

I have long been a believer in form follows function. If something, no matter what it is, performs up to & beyond it's designed purpose, that it is an achievement. If it looks good doing it, then you have pure genius. Whatever anyone's thoughts are about this car (& those like it), it has achieved that status. It has to be appreciated for what it is. My hats off to those who have the means & desire to preserve these works of art for mere laymen such as myself to enjoy when they are displayed. There's nothing better to me than going to Road America & watching guys like Augie Pabst or George Stauffer blasting around the circuit at breakneck speeds in priceless race cars. After all, that's what they are for.

Did anyone else catch the 25 hours of Le Mans? Another photo claims the car was racing in 1961 but the cars were built between 1962 & 1964. Don't the authors of these stories do some basic research? By the way, it is a lovely automobile. I have a 1938 Allis Chalmers WC I'd be willing to use as a partial trade.

I live near the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin & they have Big Boy #4017 on display in it's own special building. It's an awsome piece of machinery up close. They have quite a collection including Eisenhower's war train that he used in Europe. We do have other things to see & do besides the Packers.

Is it for sale?

Very nice. I remember hearing that he always painted his engine blocks & drivetrain white so as to detect leaks & cracks. Was he the one who had the trick fuel filler cap that held an extra gallon or so on his Trans Am Camaro?

This is more a work of art, just like the original. Bravo!

Try Testors flat sea blue. I used it on my Penske Corvette & it looked very convincing as blue leather.

Very nice. I'm building the same kit along a similar theme. I agree about the size of the slicks. I'm thinking about using the wheels & tires from the Garlits Wynn's Jammer kit but it will require opening up the wheel wells a little bit. Did you have to do the same?
